Tyler Lee @ #7 Abilene

East visits west in this Interstate 20 battle between 3-5A’s Abilene and 12-5A’s Tyler Lee.  Abilene is undefeated at 3-0 and Tyler Lee is 2-1.  Abilene’s beaten Westlake 31-10, Lubbock Monterey 17-0 and Mesquite 13-10 to open the season.  Tyler Lee beat Lake Highlands 27-24, lost to Euless Trinity 21-10 and won a low scoring game last week against Dallas Kimball (4A) 3-2.

Both of these teams have shown good defense so far, but the offenses have sputtered out of the gate by comparison.  Abilene has definitely been the stronger of the two so far, but Tyler Lee’s talent always commands respect from opponents.  For example, the Red Raiders’ offensive line is one of the biggest and most talented in Texas.  Abilene has a very experienced team and will draw on that advantage in front of the crowd against a tough Lee team.  The defense has been magnificent so far, and the offense has the potential to be very good when the Eagles put things together.

Abilene is the favorite at home but Tyler Lee definitely won’t make it an easy win.  For both teams, this is one of two more dress rehearsals before district play begins.  Abilene's offense hasn't exploded out of the gate, but they've definitely fared better than Lee at this point.  The Eagles' defense has been outstanding so far, and we expect that to continue this week.  OUR PICK- ABILENE

#20 Arlington Bowie @ Dallas Skyline

This is one of those games that college scouts dream about.  Both of these programs are well known for producing Division 1 talent and are also off to positive starts as teams this year.  Bowie and Skyline are both 2-0.  Bowie beat FW Dunbar 54-6 and then Denton Ryan 27-7 last week.  Skyline has wins over Samuell (57-13) and Arlington (34-17).

Bowie has all-district talent peppered through the entire line up.  Senior QB Christian Matthews, senior WR Roddy Maginot and senior WR Andre McGee are a few of the proven talents on offense.  This is an offense that can strike from any position on the field and can also be balanced.  Defensively, LBs Marcus McGraw and Jake Sharum are two of the Vols' best.  Skyline can also strike a good balance of yards on the ground and in the air.  Sophomore QB Javia Hall, sophomore WR Tony Drake and senior all-purpose talent Troy Stoudemire are a few of the Raiders' top producers.   Senior LBs Keanon Cooper and Alfred Dupree are experienced leading players on the defense.

Overall, this looks pretty evenly matched on paper based on what each team has done so far but we favor Bowie's experience to prevail on the road against an athletic Skyline squad.  Again, these are two very athletic teams and this should be a good game.  OUR PICK- BOWIE
