The Sports Illustrated College Preview issue has Vince Young on the cover - and good inside article about Vince and his family. The title is something like threat to explode - and it highlights VY, Reggie Bush and a few others. Here are SI's Top 5 - as best I can remember without the article in front of me
1 USC
2 Texas
3 Florida
4 Michigan
5 Tennessee

2. Tennessee

Actually, Vince is only on the cover of SI's in Texas. I believe it's Reggie Bush that is on the national cover. Vince was rated #3 on the list of "Top Gamebreakers" in the nation. Ohio State's Ted Ginn Jr. and USC's Reggie Bush were numbers 2 and 1 respectively.
1. RB/KR Reggie Bush - http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedia/photo_gallery/2005/08/09/gamebreakers/content.15.html
2. WR/KR Ted Ginn Jr. - http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedia/photo_gallery/2005/08/09/gamebreakers/content.14.html
3. QB Vince Young (he really does fly) - http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedia/photo_gallery/2005/08/09/gamebreakers/content.13.html
4. CB/KR David Hester Jr. - http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedia/photo_gallery/2005/08/09/gamebreakers/content.12.html
5. WR/KR Steve Breaston - http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedia/photo_gallery/2005/08/09/gamebreakers/content.11.html

The Midshipmen have overachieved tremendously as of late. Considering, it was only about 5 or 6 years ago...at the enlisted bar in Oceana,Va....they would give a free round of beer anytime Navy scored a touchdown. I was in there every Saturday and I think I got one free beer. hahahaha
Side note- one of my favorite Dallas Cowboys of all time was Chad Hennings...an Air Force graduate and pilot. However, I have to trump that by saying that Roger Staubach won the Heisman at the Naval Academy.

I really think Iowa is on the verge of breaking through this year. They have been close every year and I think Frenzel is due. I don't think Florida and Tennessee are quite there yet. Both still have fairly young QB's and I think Urban Meyer needs a year before the program excels under him. Texas definatly has a shot, but the Big 12 South is tough to get through. USC looks strong again, but who didnt know that. My pick for the college season is a Big 10 team, (even though I hate the Big 10), and I will say either Iowa or Purdue.

A few years ago, Navy didn't win 2 games in most years. They've got a good coach now. Air Force has always benefitted because they had Ken Hatfield and Fisher DeBerry has stayed on as head coach for almost 20 years. Air Force was starting to look dominant when their defensive coordinator quit to be head coach at VMI back in 1998. The defense and their record hasn't been quite as good since then.

If you've ever seen him play, you KNOW how explosive he is. That boy is a threat to score everytime he touches the ball. His dad is a coach and I think he'll make a good pro in a few years. Ginn has been dominant the last 2 years when he played in San Antonio. He was MVP of the HS All-American game and last year's Alamo Bowl as a true freshman.

If Young picks up where he left off in the Longhorns' Rose Bowl win over Michigan -- four passing touchdowns , plus one rushing TD and 180 yards on the ground -- he's bound to be at the head of the 2005 Heisman race.

He is widely known as the fastest man in college football!! Yes, his 40 time is even faster then Reggie's 4.3 flat!! He is more then just speed!! Wait a minute though?? How did he do against my great Iowa Hawks defense last year?? Absolutely Nada!! Iowa absolutely dominated and embarrassed them!! But then again, this game is at the shoe not Iowa City and they are almost unbeatable at the shoe. Iowa has not won at the shoe in forever even though they lost in 2003 giving up less then 150 total yards offense!! Yes that is true!! Ohio st scored all of their points on defense except a field goal in that win. I have never seen a game like that in my life!! Texas would win at home but no way do they win at the shoe!! They make you play so so ugly there!!

Ginn is still a work in progress. You have to remember that while Ginn is an incredible talent, he is playing in one of the most boring and conservative offenses in America. Tressel, as good a coach as he is, still has no clue what to do with Ginn or how to best use him. Ginn really didn’t start seeing the field until half way through last season. If Ginn had gone to USC or Texas Tech where great offensive coaches are employed, Ginn would have probably put up twice the numbers he did last year at Ohio State. If Tressel decides to grow a pair and actually turn the playbook to page two, Ginn could put up some monster numbers.
Ginn is about as raw a talent as there is in the game. The only thing he does great right now is punt and kick returns and that is mainly because he can just let his speed take over. He can play WR, but his hands aren’t great and he is a terrible route runner. He can play RB, but he has trouble finding the holes and he doesnt break tackles well. All that, and at about 5'11 175, he doesn’t really have the size to take the beating each position sees.
Ginn looks to me like a man in search of a position. I have no doubt that he will wind up in the NFL some day, but it remains to be seen where. I personally think he will wind up playing in the defensive secondary with his specialty being returns... much like Deion. And much like Deion, you may see Ginn line up at WR a time or two in the NFL, but he doesn’t have the size now that the NFL likes for it's offensive skill positions.
I like watching Ginn play because he is a threat to score every time he touches the ball. That is the reason SI put him up there with Reggie Bush and Vince Young. The kid is amazing. You also have to watch out for Texas' Ramonce Talyor who could be on this list in a year or two just with his athletic ability alone. Most people dont know, but even playing second string to one of the best RBs college football has seen in a decade, Ramonce was still able to put up offensive numbers better than Ginn's including higher averages on carries and receptions. If the big pink elephant in the press box ever finds out what to do with Ramonce, he could easily be another Reggie Bush.

I dont think theres any question at all that Texas loses to OSU. All texas has done now for 6 months is try to brag about the Michigan game, well OSU put it to Michigan last year so it wasnt too big a feat. Longhorn fans better just watch out. They will need more than Vince Young trying to run around to win at the shoe. And I guarentee that Mack cant figure out what they need to do to win.

Where i completely disagree with you is the osu offense. Just because they pound you with the run and play old school football with occasional play action passes does not mean they are idiots offensively. Obviously ball control/clock control/ turnover control/ running football still works considering they just won the national championship a few years back and have had some other big bowl victories recently. When has the great offensive minds of Texas last won a National Championship?? Didn't the Buckeyes just handle KSU pretty easily in a BCS bowl in 2003 after KSU just dismantled OU in the Big 12 championship game?? How did Texas do vs OU in 2003?? ;) My point, a conservative ball control and running team with great defense can still win national championships so becareful when you make fun of their offensive playbook. OSU had a horrible year offensively last year but that is very rare!! Usually their style works perfectly for the type of team they have. Some of the worse offenses throw the ball every down and nobody gets on them for being overly aggressive so why do people get on so called conservative offenses?? It is just fans that cannot comprehend what they are doing?? They just want excitement. One bad year on offense and all of the sudden they are clueless even though they dominated Michigan and won another bowl game?? Now of course Iowa beat them like 37-7 last year but that is what my hawks do to most teams these days. ;)

You need to calm down little Hawkeye. I'm not underestimating Ginn as a WR. I simply relayed what almost every OSU fan I have talked to has said. He is raw and needs a lot of work. However, when he gets it all down, he should be one of the premiere WRs in the game.
Also, I never said OSU were "idiots offensively." I said exactly what Tressel himself will say... they are very conservative and even boring. You cant argue with the results as they have a NC, but you also cant argue that such an offense is not the best place to showcase a talent like Ginn. That being said, I think he will showcase himself.

Yes they shut down Kingsbury!! OhioSt might be very conserative and boring according to present times but they sure are still very very effective. Iowa usually has a very similar offense to Ohio St besides last year when they were forced to throw a lot due to a great qb in drew tate and that they lost 5 rb's to injuries?? LMAO Let's just say it was not pretty at all!! ;) Iowa 60 something to Texas not much!! The only times Iowa has met a Big 12 team was Texas Tech in the Alamo bowl and they are 2-0. Yes they still won 10 games once again and beat LSU in a bowl game Jan 1st even though they lost 5 running backs to season ending injuries.
OK, I dont know what you are reading into all of this, but I never belittled Ginn or Ohio State, and outside of calling you a Hawkeye (I thought you were an Iowa fan) I havent even mentioned Iowa... much less belittle them. Ginn is great... I said that. He will be better... I said that as well. Ohio State is boring... Duh. Ohio State is still very good... I said that as well.
BTW, Iowa beat Texas 55-17 in the 1984 Freedom Bowl.

BTW, the greatest thing to ever come out of Iowa was Walter "Radar" O'Reily.

Well considering Iowa has an absolute ton of players starting in the NFL right now i do not know?? I do like O Reily though. lol i could list them but it would take too long!! Gallery was the last huge pick for iowa and he went #2 in the draft in 2003 i am pretty sure?? Wait de Matt Roth was in the top 10 last year!! Bob Sanders and Dallas Clark started for Indianapolis last year and they just came out. That is just a few!! Texas has their share too i know!! Here is a few national awards Iowa has won in the last 3 years. Coach of the year Ferenz 2002, AP player of the year qb Brad Banks 2002 he finished 2nd in heisman, Dallas Clark tight end of the year 2002, Robert Gallery OL of the year 2003, Nate Kaeding kicker of the year 2003. Has any other team won that many national awards in the last 3 years?? Iowa will have probably 2 top 10 nfl picks after this year in 2 scary linebackers named Hodge and Greenway and they have a heisman hopeful in Drew Tate and an another all american in the making in wr Clint Solomon and 2 great cornerbacks that are picked as one of the best in the nation. Yes both Tate and Solomon are from Texas!! Iowa also has had at least a top 10 defense for 4 years straight. That is their rock!! Hopefully they can continue their winning ways recently??
Ok i will stop going on about my Hawks and let you get back on subject!! ;) I know most of you could care less!!
By the way, I was not irritated that you called me a Hawkeye fan which i am i was irritated that you told me to calm down because i simply said i though you were underestimating the Ohio St wr. :) I was not all pumped up about it that is for sure. I was simply talking football.

Texas Longhorns-reigning Southwest Conference Champions
What happened...this guy was one of the top TE prospects in the nation coming out of Elsik...he is now listed as OL...I take it he didnt recover well from the injury. Any info on the position change?

Sounds like he just started getting so big that the position change was natural. Same thing happened to Miami's Eric Winston. Winston came out of Midland Lee as the #2 TE recruit in the nation at 6'7 255. He got to Miami and just started pounding the weights and before he knew it he was up to 300 pounds. He moved over to OT where he is now considered one of the top OT's in college football. Hills came out of high school at 260 pounds and has since put on about 40 pounds so that move to OT is a natural one. What it should mean is that, like Winston, he is a very athletic OT and everybody wants an OT that can move.
