Texas starts legislating trend
By Ivan Maisel, ESPN.com

A Texas state senator recently introduced legislation that would prevent state universities from participating in postseason football unless it is in a national playoff.

The legislation will become law only if four other states from a group of a dozen pass similar legislation. The group of states includes Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina and Washington.

From here, it looks as if the Texas legislators don't think much of the chances of Ohio State or Tennessee. Their legislatures don't count.

'Tis the season for April foolery; however, the above examples are true. In an era when our public servants have many pressing concerns -- education, safety, medical care -- and fewer dollars with which to solve them, these legislators have focused instead on sports.

It's just so touching. It's enough to make a grown man cry, all right.

there are more things on that article but thats the main thing on the possible statewide boycott of college football

Seems like this was mostly symbolic gesture to show that they're fed up with the BCS.

The BCS is gonna have to change anyhow since the AP pulled their poll. This should be interesting though.

Politicians = Stupid people.

Just because we vote them in a couple of times - they thing they have the right to get involved in what is really "none of their business".

They are wasting my money on legislative items such as the BCS bull$#@.

Also, while I am at it. What is it with this Edwards guy legislating cheerleaders. Before you know it we well be getting a governmental pamlets on allowable moves - all demonstrated by Edwards.

Politicos - do your job - cut our taxes. Stop trying to govern our everyday lives.

Gee - that felt good.

Actually the business of State universities is theirs....
they represent that state...College football is a money
making machine...It's not all first downs and field goals...
there is huge revenue to take into account...and where
there is huge amounts of money-----it won't be long until
politicians start popping up.

It is interesting that our state leaders can debate about the BCS, but not steroid/drug testing of high school players or even discussing the merits of having a class 6A or a playoff system that will give us one champion per classification. These are actions they can make a reality, the BCS is not.

on the other hand, who is going to force the bcs into a much deserved retirement? there appears to be lots of inertia and until someone, anyone with some cajones stands up and tells the king he's a flasher, it will continue to fester. the hs po's may not be perfect, but compared to the bscs, it is as close as we are likely to witness.

All this stuff the politicians say is just eyewash. They say stuff in the media to act like they're doing things, but it's always about stuff they have no business changing and they don't make the changes. The steroid business is the same.
