Did anybody see J. Lane get knocked down when that LB came up the middle and thought he had the ball in the North/south game? I have never seen him on his back before! He had some good runs though!
J. Charles was very impressive! He looked like a future star back for the Horns baby!! In one of his interviews he said "Calm down UT fans, I am gonna make you all forget that Adrian Peterson went to OU!" Pretty confident kid! I like that! Hook 'Em!!

i do not know where you are going with this?? all star game results are pretty much meaningless. i think j lane had only 4 carries in that pointless allstar game and still had about 32 yards. hard to do much when you get 4 carries. yes, that was the first time i have ever seen lane get knocked on his butt. it is usually him knocking everybody on their butt. i think it was a huge surprise to him and he was caught off guard. he was standing their flat footed going to just get in the guy's way blocking for the qb and the guy brought some punch with him. the lb had a dead on sprint and lane was just standing there. either way it was impressive and shocking to see lane get knocked on his can. i am so used to it being the other way around. lane made up for it by body slamming a defensive back with a stiff arm near the goalline. that stuff happens and i am sure he caught hell from his teammates because he is known for delivering the punishment not taking any.

That is exactly where I was going with it! I have never seen that happen! He is usually the one knocking people on there butts! I am not trying to make him look bad or anything, it was as much as a surprise to me as anyone! I thought it was pretty cool that someone finally got one back on him for the other kids who have been knocked down by him in the past! :D

I seen that play and I think Lane's primary responsibility was to block. Granted he had to carry out the fake first but I think the LB got thru the hole a little quicker than Lane expected and he caught Lane a little off balance. Trust me if Lane was carrying the football, there's no way the LB flattens him like that. If Lane is just set up in the backfield and not asked to carry out a play fake no way that LB flattens him like that.
J. Charles is going to be very fun to watch at the next level.

I agree with you! He was off balance and I think since he knew it was only a fake he was probably only at half speed where the LB was in a dead sprint! Does anyone know Lane's 40 time? Is he gonna be a FB or TB?

Charles was very impressive.
Jorvorski said he was "kinda bored" during the game - his intensity level was not super-revved like some others - but, yeah, no way an lb flattens him one on one if he's carrying the ball.
The only player I saw in 3 years that could handle Jtrain solo was the lb from Waco - whose name escapes me but he's staying at Baylor - that guy was really good - but there was no flattening going on.

J Lane will fit in perfect at A&M. He will give them a chance to get back to the old school style of pound, pound, pound with the run and play smash mouth defense. The thing that I can't wait to see is what the training staff will do with his body. I bet he will redshirt this year and you will see a monster when he takes over for good. With all of that said, Jamal Charles is a special back! Texas has a great up and coming one two punch with Charles and Finley.

He's a monster now. He showed up weighing 267 pounds. He's gonna have to lose some of that if he ever wants to be anything more than a lead blocker.

267?? where did you read that?? i agree that is way too much weight but i know he was not near 267 in that game the other day. at 235-240 he is amazing. you would be amazed at what he still can do at that size.

I dunno if 267 is too big--how heavy was George Woodard for those Aggies back in the 70s?

I guess that what I was getting at is that the training staff will get him exactly where he needs to be. Most athletes out of high school are not where they need to be. I would guess that they will put him on a diet to get his weight down then build him back up with muscle mass. Yes, he is a monster now, but just wait!

The LB from Waco was Shon Brown. Yea he is going to Baylor and I think he will be a good one for the Bears.

That is how rumors start ,by someone saying things they don,t know. J Lane came by Sunday eveing before leaving for A&M.He,s nowhere close to 267 or even 257. He still at the same playing weight. I do agree that the coaches will trim some pounds of and put them back in the form of muscle.I think his 40 time was a round 4.5 or 4.6 depening on the surface..........

That's a good one SCOOTER. I hope you are right, but am not betting the farm, or even a picture of the farm on it.
Charles is a phenom, but for him to say that people will forget Adrian Peterson, is way too much for him to carry. I don't see that happening.
I know the PAM fans will be wishing they had him back when LP get's through whippn' them in their own house.... :o

my grandparents from iowa are coming in the week of the lufkin/woodlands game. they are just shocked by the magnitude of texas hs football but have never been to a game live. they have always wanted to see the panthers because we send them articles about them. just driving by old abe in the past their absolutely amazed that is a hs stadium. the will be in for a surprise of the atmosphere at that game at the hs level. they are used to hs games with about 150-300 people there. they love football and have been hawkeye season ticket holders forever. so if you see a couple of old people at the lufkin/woodlands game with iowa hawkeye gear saying can you get me a pop at the concession stand!! lol you will know they are my grandparents.

I'd love to see Charles starting for UT this year or at least get some playing time. With his speed the Horns should be a monster if they can get it together. I believe it's this year or nothing. Look for a win over OU this time around......

I finally found a site that had Lane listed at 4.6 which is what I remember him being listed at during his Sr. season. I would suspect that he will be used much in the same way Toombs was used. However Lane can catch a pass which gives him more versatility. He was also our punter. While it wasn't pretty, it was effective.

AUSTIN - Port Arthur Memorial freshman running back Jamaal Charles did not work out with the Texas Longhorns on Tuesday while he clears up his academic eligibility with the NCAA Clearinghouse.
Charles is eager to get started and expects to be at tonight's workout at Denius Field. Freshman running back Henry Melton, who missed Monday's first practice, received his academic clearance and was on the field.

Charles joins UT football workouts

AUSTIN - Jamaal Charles, the Parade All-American running back from Port Arthur Memorial, received the OK he had been waiting for from the NCAA Clearinghouse and practiced with the University of Texas for the first time Thursday afternoon.
Charles, the offensive MVP of July's Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star game when he rushed 20 times for 98 yards and caught two passes for 34 yards and scored three touchdowns in all, is expected to challenge for a key role in the Texas backfield this season.
But he had been forced to watch the Longhorns' first three days of practice from the sidelines, because the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse, located in Iowa City, Iowa, hadn't completed its review of his transcripts.
All freshman athletes have to submit their final transcripts to the clearinghouse and the NCAA requests potential student athletes start the process after they complete their junior years in high school.
NCAA rules require this year's freshmen to have completed 14 core classes: four years of English, two years of math (Algebra 1 or higher), two years of natural of physical science, two years of social science, one additional year of either English, math or science, and three years of additional classes from the above or foreign language, religion or philosophy.
The clearinghouse studies each high school's core course curriculum to see if the classes qualify.

Don't know. They have Thomas at TE and he has proven to be really solid. Limas Sweed and Jordan Shipley are the wideouts....He could take Nate Jones' spot as the #3 receiver....or we could use him in 2TE packages...I don't know..Just find a spot for this guy Mack. He will not let you down I promise.

That's what I thought too...but not according to Mack Brown.
He's practicing at HB.
And Duke...probably doesn't matter about Nate...Shipley will
get most of the tosses. And have you seen Selvin?
He got big!! I still like him better with #3...not #22.
Also UT is playing in throwback helmets and jerseys for
