Anyone remember a while back on the old boards here, that there was a link to another message board that had hundreds of pics of the best stadiums in Texas? Well, I am looking for that and cant find it. Any help?

Victoria's Memorial stadium is no where near as great as some of those listed...but its pretty good for an old stadium...it was built in 1957 and is still standing strong! It is equipped with field turf and has played host to many great playoff games in recent years.

FYI I'm in the process of collecting stadium pictures for my stadium database

If you have a good one send it to me. Be sure and identify which stadium it is and where it is located.

Just a quick question, how much do these staidums cost to build...and where does this money come from? Also, how many schools have indoor facilities now?

Most of the new stadiums are around $13-18 million and are paid for through bonds. The city votes on the bond, correct me if I am wrong, but I think the money for stadiums come through taxes and private donations.
As for indoor facilities, they are becoming more popular I know for sure Southlake, Coppell, Allen, just to name a few have them.

Only the priviledged. There aren't many that I know of and they are usually found in only affluent school districts IMHO ;) .

Hi, I'm the creator of that Dallasmetropolis stadium thread. I started the thread after seeing a story on CBS news about high school sports becoming too important. Some town was bragging about some $6 million stadium that was supposed to be one of the best in the country. I then wondered how stadiums in Texas compared. No contest, Texas wins. As for how many with indoor facilities, there are a lot. The Frisco schools, Rockwall, 3 in Plano, 2 in McKinney, Southlake, Greenville and Coppell come to mind. I believe there are many more in the metroplex. Don't know about the rest of the state.
I have updated the thread some more, and always appreciate any comments or additional pics to the thread. I think this stadium boom is only beginning. Lots of cities who have yet to take their turn or have stadiums going up now or in the near future.

Did any of the powerhouses in the 30's,40's,50's,60's have indoor facilities and astroturf and all this crap? NOPE...were the teams weaker than they are now? NOPE...so what is the point? You don't have to have all of those things to be good...it's not necessary.
To me it's a bunch of schools trying to keep up with the Jones'.

the indoor fileld for slc, we used it alottttttttttt for soccer, when the grass was to wet and crappy we went there, which was a lot, it gave us a lottttt more practice time than we wouldve had if we didnt have it, so it does help during the bad weather times

I disagree with the first part of your post. Times change, kids become stronger, faster, bigger. An average 5A team right now could beat and average 5A team of the 50's, just for the simple fact that the game evolves. With each generation the players become stronger and faster. However, I agree with you that it's not necessary to have the facilites to be great, but they are nice to have.

Best stadiums are Round Rock ISD stadium with its jumbotron and its astro play, also Waco ISD stadium. Round Rock ISD stadium is in a league of its own for the Austin Area at least. Anybody else from a different area would probably agree that its one of hte nicer stadiums in Texas. It doesnt have a cool name so the newspaper tagged it as the Palace on Parmer (Parmer being the street that it is on). And when those lights are on, and you can see that score and the jumbotron all the way in Leander and Cedar Park, then yes it is a Palace lol.

You might be right about the '50's teams...
but I can promise you a Jumbotron does not make your team any better.

i like the jumbotron, because being in band, we tend to miss some occasional plays, so with a jumbro tron it allows us to see that, also to see Luna plow through somebody again and again like DD mentioned

yeah i agree with you there wide. it's just for novelty i suppose. i mean you've got these state of the art, millions of dollars stadiums, why not throw in a jumbotron?

what many don't think about is what a great ad tool the replay screens are. They pretty much pay for themselves in a couple of years.
