I love the aggies...i just wanted to start a thread about them even though it will just turn into a competition to see who can diss each other better between t.u. fans and Ags...oh well, keep it clean but have fun and dont get your feelings hurt, it's not personal and its all just a joke...? ;)

Ya gotta love Tech fans...all they want is a rival. The Sand Aggies are OK with me. I'll never get the tortilla thing, though.
As for the "real" aggies...I guess 2% of the school is ok. :D

I've only heard the A&M side of the tortilla story but i always heard that they're just too cheap to buy real bread so they use tortillas...but i dunno if its true. As for Tech fans on this thread, of course they're welcome, i was just having a brain fart and didn't include them

People get angry when anyone beats them...trust me, in recent years aggies know the feeling (especially this year against Baylor, I almost stopped being an Aggie because I was so dissappointed, but Aggies fight on through thick and thin). About the fight song, I'm pretty sure the reason we mention them so much is because we were the first college of Texas, then Texas came along so we needed somebody to pick a fight with, and the rivalry was born. Apparently this has been pretty intense for a long time because we felt the need to write them into our fight song. Oh well. It's actually a similar story w/ the Owls and Colonels of Garland Owls first, Colonels second, rivalry starts.

Texas A&M was a military academy first, not a school. Then Texas started, and Texas A&M's military academy was turned onto a branch of Texas.

I'd say the pretty obvious answer is no way. And I really dont understand why calling Texas "TU" is so funny/offensive. As the Jim Rome thing said, it's ********.
That's why people from Texas don't called TAMU "M&A."
I mean seriously, come on now people.

I think it has been proven that Jim Rome never said that, what you saw was a email sent around that had some of the words changed. Plus if anyone is going to go by what Jim Rome says, then they need some help.
As for the rival thing with Tech, I to have never understood that, more so with A&M than with Texas. Aggie fans are as obsessed with Tech as they are with the horns, they just wont admit it. Over the last 10 years the A&M/Tech football games have been more even than that of the Texas/A&M games, heck when the Ags beat the Raiders this year, they went crazy. Any aggie that says Tech is not a rival is just plain stubborn. You dont call a team, classless clowns and take insults at them the way A&M does if they are not a rival. In my honest opinion, over the last 10 years, the best rivalry between instate schools has been Texas A&M and Texas Tech. Any aggie that says other wise, just cant face the facts.

That's why I referred to it as "the Jim Rome thing," rather than what "Jim Rome said."
It may or may not actually be Jim Rome's thoughts/comments, but it's content in that aspect is very true. Are you implying it is not stupid to call Texas "TU"?
Do you think it would be stupid/not funny for Texas fans to refer to TAMU as "M&A"?

I think its funny because the reaction it gets out of Texas fans, they have their own name for A&M, rather its calling them sheep lovers or aggy, they do the same thing, also I believe that in the Texas fight song, the very last line in it is something like and its good by to A&M or along those lines.
I dont know if the whole t.u thing is what got Texas fans to start calling themselves The University, but that is one reason why a lot of A&M fans or others take a stab at Texas, mainly because with a lot of Texas fans, the mindset they have is, how dare you insult Texas. It goes both ways, Texas fans have just as many names for A&M as A&M fans do for Texas.

What is this calling Tech's defense the wrecking crew, I hope you're just mocking the Aggies and you're really not so ignorant as to the fact that the Ags' D has been called the wrecking crew for a long time. Unless I'm mistaken (which I might be) the Aggies were the first ones to use that, but if you have proof otherwise, I'll believe you. Maybe Tech's D can be called "Tortilla Tossers" or "Redneck Rage". Just kidding, I have a cousin who goes there. :D

Theres only one game being played at the Cotton Bowl while the State Fair is going on...
There was talk a while back that the Dallas mayor and some others were trying to attract the Tech/aggy game to the Cotton Bowl. They are affraid the Red River Shootout will bolt for greener grass (and more money) at Jerry Land in Arlington. If the Shootout does leave, Dallas would still have a rivalry game (though one that doesnt hold a candle to the Red River Shootout), but if the Shootout stays, then Dallas and the Cotton Bowl are pleased as punch... at least that's their thinking.
I'm torn on whether I would like to see the game stay in Fair Park or move to Jerry Land. I was at the Cotton Bowl about a year ago and it was a dump. The city of Dallas blew a golden opprotunity to bring America's team back to Big D and restore or rebuild a classic old stadium. I dont see the Cotton Bowl being used much longer. My guess is that the Shootout and Cotton Bowl Classic will leave for Arlington in favor of more amenities, seats, money and a game that wont be impacted by the weather.

You want to know why they can draw that many fans.
1. Aggies have no life around football.
2. Aggies have no life.
3. Aggies don't care about any other sport but football.
4. Aggies used to claim how great their baseball team is, but they are in 8th place in baseball for the big 12,(big 12 only has 10 baseball teams.. minus Iowa ST and Colorado.) BTW: Tech beat A&M baseball 2 games to 1.
5. Both Texas and Tech have other sports that are constantly ranked. Even Bayor has been more of a spotlight this year than other Aggie sports.
6. Aggies just flat out suck.
But here is a goodluck to the fellow aggies of college station, here is to beating everyone in the big 12 except Tech.

Hmm...Aggies are the dumb ones? you started your post off with reasons why we can get 43,600 people to come to a spring football game and somehow progressed to saying how great your school is. Also, Olsen Field is renound as one of the best places to play college baseball because we always pack the stadium. Our tennis team is ranked No. 14 in the nation (I'll be the first to admit we just lost to Tech and they are ranked higher than us), but it still shows we are ranked. The A&M womens archery team is one of if not the best in the nation with star archer Cassie Rafaellie who won teh national Collegiate title. Also the Women's Soccer team Beat Texas and Texas Tech last year. Men's Swimming and diving finished No. 2 in the Big 12 and No. 15 in the NCAA, Women's Cross Country finished 5th in NCAA Regional meet, Women's Equestrian Team finished in the top 2 in all but one of this years competitions, Softball has only 3 losses this season (36-3), Women's swimming and Diving finished No. 14 in NCAA, Women's Tennis is 6-1 in Big 12 (beat Tech 7-0), Women's Volleyball is No. 20 in nation (Beat Tech, Texas, and Baylor)

haha wow my fello Garland Owl, you know alot about womens sports... I dont think anyone in this fine state if Texas cares, but congrats on your Archery team. Sounds like alot of Aggies go to those games to watch. Do yall sway at the Archery games too?
Well, my fellow Garland Owl, it looks like you have done your research. You need to be studying for Barber/Ethingtons Biology (are they still there?)
And again, MY FELLOW GARLAND OWL, don't call fellow garland owls dumb ones, it just makes you look dumb.
My fellow Garland Owl, I did not talk about how great the baseball stadium was, nor did I talk about how bad we got our butts kicked against Mizzou, I was just stating in College Station... football is everything, and everything else is nothing.
Tech's Tennis is #10, and beat A&M. Done Deal.
Sure Tech does not have a swimming team, so I cant argue about that one.
So to my fellow Garland Owl, all I was stating is that in Aggie Land, football is 2nd to sheep. haha JK. Football is everything out there and all the rest of the sports get shafted. Just look at Reed Arena. And why they changed the floor of that stadium to copy the exact floor of UT, I dont know. So that is the reason there are so many that come out to the spring game. It is understandable. Plus they have no life. HAHA once again JK.
And I am not an aggie hater, if you read the last statement in the other post, I state "But here is a goodluck to the fellow aggies of college station, here is to beating everyone in the big 12 except Tech"
Anyone in Texas should pull for UT, A&M, or TECH unless they are playing each other, then its to each his own.
I loved it being at the Holiday Bowl and seeing UT fans yelling for Tech, and then watching the BIG 12 championship in basketball and seeing UT fans with their GUNS UP. It just kicks ***.

Ok, the reason I brought up women's archery is just to show that A&M is ranked in other sports and we deserve more credit than we get. Almost all schools in the Big 12 are contenders in something...can we leave it at that?
At, the football games, the bellgaurds still do their stuff (GHS spellout, worm/snale) and now they do a thing where a person stands and another person sits on his shoulders and sticks his legs out. then a third person hooks his arms on the sitter's legs and the guy who's standing spins...my brother was a bellgaurd too ('01) and i dont remember them doing that. Not sure about the bellgaurds working together but this year they did get in a "bellgaurd-off" with rowlett...needless to say, we won. Also, the drumlines got in a battle of the bands and rowlett is much better than Garland so Garland just pointed to the scoreboard (needless to say, we were winning)...Oh how I love football games.

Well all 3 Texas Teams had A chance.
A&M being the closest... losing at the last second.
Then Texas lose 12-0, which was not bad.
And Tech lost in Norman 28-13, which is not bad for a Tech away game.
One of the 3 will beat OU this year, maybe even 2. Bet on it.

A&M being the closest... losing at the last second.
Then Texas lose 12-0, which was not bad.
And Tech lost in Norman 28-13, which is not bad for a Tech away game.
One of the 3 will beat OU this year, maybe even 2. Bet on it.
Im gonna go out on a limb and say Tech and ATM will be the two to win!!!
Gotta feel for mac, stoops just whoops his butt every time they play!!!!

I'd agree with you saying you are going out on a limb. I'm soooo gonna try and get a ticket for the Texas/OU game. Might even bet on it too!

I think if A&M can beat them then all 3 can beat them. The Aggies play them in Norman, so it will be a tough game for them, Tech plays them at home so if they're going to win, it will probably be this year. Texas plays them (obviously) in Dallas, and I think they can definately win. A&M has probably the worst chance to win just because A&M and Tech are about the same caliber team and A&M plays OU away and Tech get's them at home. No matter what, all three Texas powers have a legit chance to win. WHo knows...maybe Baylor will win in a fluke just like last year against A&M

They really have one ya' know?

This is true, we started out as an Ag school and the livestock judging and such is still a big part of life around BCS. My mom was a biomedical science major (pre-veterinary) and she took a class in a building with meat hooks that brought in sides of beef to learn the cuts of a cow...pretty interesting and gory

Well, Mack got himself the number one defensive coach in the country this off-season from Auburn University...and he brought his own visor. Now, we'll see if the approach on offense changes at all.
In recent meetings against OU, Texas has employed an extremely conservative game plan on offense (don't use it for anyone else save Washington State in 2004 Holiday Bowl) that has backfired pretty spectacularly.
If Texas wants to turn the tide this year, they'll need to charge in there with all barrells blazing and play to win in all phases as opposed to trying to play not to lose.

I am not going to get caught up in all of the details of the Texas/OU
game. I will just tune in and watch it. The build up and ultimate let down
is starting to get to me. I just think the odds have got to be in Mack's favor eventually. I mean they can't just keep beating Texas forever. Or can they?

I really think, because Texas has so many players returning, and the obvious experience gained from the Rose Bowl victory, that if there is a year for the Longhorns to get a win against the Sooners, this year IS the year.
And Mojo, master of the art of grammar, I know what you were intending to say. I was agreeing that you were going out on a limb! because you're wrong! :D

pronounced "two percenter" 2 %ers are all the people whodon't go to the football games, dont go to yell practice, and don't participate in the traditions...being called a 2 percenter is a pretty big insult.

So does that mean that only 2% of the people at
A&M are normal. Wow...that percentage is astounding...
I would have thought at least 10% were normal.

haha...very funny...no need to bash...for a while i thought Texas fans were becoming more civilized...my bad (i realize i contradicted myself) and actually it's not saying that its 2% of people, its saying they give 2% effort.

2% effort...ohhhhh
well that explains everything...
What do they do if they realize one
of the guys on the team is a 2%?
And with the all of the mediocre play
isn't it nearly impossible to detect who
is only giving 2%?
garlandowl08
04-17-2005, 06:38 PM
its about the fans, if you're a football player you can't be a 2%er because at least you work hard in practice or you wouldnt play, plus they all do the fight song at the end of the games.

honestly, Texas and Tech were who I had in mind. This year playing Tech in Lubbock will be an extreme challenge, but until we start beating them consistently, we will never be in the upper eschelon (sp?) of teams. Texas will be a great game to watch, but you'd have to say they are the favorite. Playing them in College station will help, but it will not be easy. OU in Norman will be a challenge, but I think we can do it.

Olsen Field is renound as one of the best places to play college baseball because we always pack the stadium.
Its not hard to pack a 2,000 seat stadium or however many seats there are at olson when ur school has like 50,000 students plus ur alumni...i mean heck Rice has only 5,500 students and they consistently sell out reckling

Pack you are misinformed big time, Olsen field is one of the biggest College baseball stadiums in America along with the Disch, both Stadiums hold over 7000 and have held over 8000 at times, A&M and Texas are both consistantly in the top 10 as far as attendance go in Collegiate Baseball, now this year could be a different story I dont know what A&M's attendance figures have been since they currently in a disapointing season, but I bet it is still within the top 15.

I've seen the stadium and it seats more than 2,000. The tennis court seats more than 2K.
