I know they retired a nice home winning streak against the 'skins. They were put in the Ring of Honor, but I don't know about the numbers. With rules on what numbers can be worn by each position, I have my doubts that they retired the numbers, especially 88. They could get away with retiring 8 and 22.

That would be a lot...I doubt it. The Packers retired Reggie White's 92 on Sunday. This is a practice discourage by the league.
Packers' retired numbers 1919-2005
3 - Tony Canadeo
14 - Don Hutson
15 - Bart Starr
66 - Ray Nitschke
92 - Reggie White
Back in 1999 they retired Reggie's jersey...that might have been what was going on in Dallas.
Although not officially retired Curly Lambeau is the only player in Packers history credited with wearing number 1.

Yes - the numbers were retired - I wasn't sure - but it was confirmed several times. I believe Bob Hayes made the ring after Emmitt started wearing 22 - his number as well.

It works a lot better in basketball where you don't have like 50+ people on a team and can only use 1-99 (do they use 00?) But yeah, I can see why the league discourages this.
