the funny thing about this is that GS is what Dallas was 2-4 years ago. They play so fast that it is like watching a circus and Dallas let them control the tempo last night. Dallas has to come out and play some defense or they are done.

Hate to say it - but not surprising - Dallas looks tired. Dallas will pull this series out somehow - but this was no way to start the PO's.

The Mavs played into the Warriors hands by going small. If the Mavs slow the game down and dictate the pace, then Golden State won't have a chance. Avery will make the adjustments.

The team the Mavs played in March and April is not the same as November.
I was at the November game. The Mavs raised the Western Conference Champions banner and Dan Crawford reffed. He was true to form and made sure the Mavs lost. Josh Howard got injured in the 2nd Period of that game on a no-call and GS didn't need that much help as Dallas fell to 0-3 on the season. Devean George was injured in the first game. The Warriors were healthy. Avery and Terry were ejected from the game.
The Warriors were just better than Dallas in March. It broke the Mavs 17 game winning streak. It was the night after beating the Lakers by 38 in LA and 2 days before playing Phoenix, so apathy could've played a part. Baron Davis had sat out the game the night before and was fresh. It was the first time for Dallas to see the new Warriors.
Dallas didn't try to win in April and we'll never know if they would've if they had tried.

I'll say this. The Mavs have swept the season series over the Heat for the last 5-6 years, including this season. But, sweeping the season series over the Heat didn't help much when they lost to the Heat in the Finals last season. Because of this, I'm not going to read into Golden State's season sweep of the Mavs.
One more thing, there has been 3 other number 1 seeds lose game 1 in the first round. Funny thing, is that after those number 1 seeds lost game 1, they went on to win the championship.

The Mavs lost because they shot like 31 percent for the game. Not to mention, they settled for too many jumpshots when in return, the Warriors really don't have anyone that can defend them one on one. They need to attack the basket more, and play with some passion. They looked like they didn't even want to be on the court Sunday night.

Am I missing somethin'....
I'm very aware that Golden State had defeated Dallas in each game of the regular season, but this is the playoffs.
The Mavericks should be theoretically disposing of 8th seeded Golden State in 4 games. Hell, GS needed the last day of the season just to get in.
Now, Golden State is up 2-1, and in each game they have won, Golden State has won relatively handily.
Be glad that there isn't a 5 game series in the first round anymore. Winning a game on the road is very hard to do in the NBA. Dallas must take care of business in Game 4.
They must.
Of course, I'm more concerned of the Rockets taking care of business in Game 4 (am a Rockets fan, of course! :D ) but do not want to see a Texas team fall--especially in the first round!
That means all the attention would be placed on Phoenix. NOOOO!!!!!

Well, as you Rockets fans remember from the 1st round 2 years ago, the Mavs have been in a position that was worse than the one they're in now. I'm not screaming panic unless Dallas goes down 3-1. Until then, this is still a series that they can turn around. The Mavs were 31-10 on the road this season, and not to mention, they rebounded from an 0-4 start at the beginning of the season. They can turn it around.

I'm 100% in agreement with you on that one. I wouldn't care nearly as much about the NBA if it wasn't for Stern's hate for Cuban. I just want Satan to be forced to hand the trophy over.
Dallas played like crap and thankfully it was the Dan Crawford game. You know going in that is going to be a hard game for the Mavs to win and they sure blew one today. I told people at Halftime that the Mavs weren't going to win with Crawford out there unless Dirk scored 30 in the 2nd Half. As it was, the Mavs played so bad that they didn't need any shenanigans from the refs. I'm not worried about being down 2-1, but I would be concerned about 3-1.

well this series is all but over now. And as I think about none should really be surprised. Afterall is so difficult to follow a trip to the finals with another trip to the finals so many things, luck included(note the foul by Ginobili last year), have to fo your way. Miami is already gone and didnt hardly put up a fight against da Bulls. Oh well, IMO this was a huge tease of a year by Mavs. We may not ever be taken serioulsly again. I think officials missed calls on both side last night, so wipe that excuse off the board. This was a good game that Dallas should have won. They let the Warriors come back. They cannot get defensive stops when they need them. I will also say that Golden State had a lot of luck last night. There were many shots that were just thrown up there and went in.

that shot embodiesw this series to a t. I dont htink anyone would deny GS has had alot of stuff go their way and certainly you can call that shot a fluke. Unless they hit some bad luck or the Mavs do what they haven't been able to do to this point for 4 quarters this series is over. You can't count how many uncontested 3 pointers GS is taking each game....it's pathetic especially since they are doing it against a team is supposed to be a pretty good defenseive team.
Another thing is everyone knows the anwer to Mavs beating GS. Be aggressive and take the ball to the hoop, stop Davis from living in the lane, and defend the perimeter. The bad thing is the Mavs can't do it....even worse sometimes it doesnt even look like they are trying.

The Mavs and Warriors play differing styles of ball - the Warriors come alive when they get the run-and-gun going. Dallas can control the game when they force their style of tempo, which they did for brief periods last night - periods that were often Dallas scoring runs.
But Dallas has a tendency to 'panic' if you will, where they revert back to their old jumpshot happy selves - and that's how Golden State comes back time and time again. Plus, Dallas' defense isn't rotating and that's allowing the W's to get tons of open 3 pointers. The margin would not have been 3 if the Warriors could have made a few more uncontested shots.
This one is over in 6.

I honestly don't know who will win tonight... I want to say the Mavericks will step up, but Nelly is in their heads...
I thought that the Mavs would step up in Game 6 of the Finals last year after losing 3 straight. They didn't. Which leads me to believe that Golden State has a good shot at finishing this series tonight. I, as a Spurs fan, want such a thing to happen as quickly as possible.
I think if GS loses tonight, they will return ready for Game 6 and the Oracle will definitely be rocking.

Well, the Mavs backs are really against the wall now.
And, as some of you know, one play, can literally turn a whole series the other way. (See last season's Finals!)
Tonight's game, and if there is a game 6, will tell us what the Mavs are really made of.
The Mavs have to play for 4 quarters. In games 1 and 4, the Mavs literally quit and got lazy. This ain't shock anymore, it's now reality!

They have the lead back, 14. But now Dirk has 3 fouls in the second qtr. Knowing Nelly, he will go for that 4th the first chance he gets.

GS up by 6. They're not playing! Hopefully a TX team will be in the finals though! If it happens how many yrs. straight will that be that a TX team has been in the finals?
I know @ least 2 yrs. w/ the spurs and mavs... looks like the Rockets need to step it up!

LOL....:D
Lonny would agree. They wanted to extend the series for sponsor money. ;)
On a serious note....
GS looked like the Trailblazers a few years ago. They missed everything down the stretch and the Mavs go on a 15-0 run to end the game.

I blame that on the refs you did you not see when they had to stop the game because the ref had to go get on the phone......stern told them to hol GS back tonight

Baron Davis looked like a soccer player on that one..Terry moves him out of the way so he could get back on the court and Davis dives like he had been shot..as soon as the ref T's up Terry he jumps up laughing. Ridiculous

Talk about FLOPS... I said on another thread that most players do it.... Dirk flopped big time there at the end of the game. He even came up smiling on that one...

That was a humongous flop. Terry couldn't take Davis down if he had a running start with a battering ram.

The problem is..Dirk is a clumsy flopper..He should watch some soccer games and learn how to do it more gracefully..

There was some acting there but Terry did wrap his arm around him and there looked to be a little force applied. He could have just gone around.

What Terry did was unnecessary. He probably could have gone around...
And the NBA should give out a Best Actor award every year. I swear, Manu Ginobili would win every year! ;)

Then Dirk would get Salesman of the Year every year because he sells contact on every shot he takes.

Isn't the voting for the MVP over and done with and only applied to the regular season? Not counting the playoffs I think Dirk still put up MVP-worthy numbers.

Mostly, but the fact is that it doesn't reflect well on a player who is the top candidate for the award to completely fold not only on the court but off as well as his team gets bounced by the 8th seed.

didn't know that. I was hoping Nash would be the 4th person to win 3 straight.
