I think it is time to reveal my.....

TOP 10 RAPPERS EVER!

Enjoy...

10. Slug

I consider Slug the greatest "love" rapper of all time.

9. Tupac

Even though I believe Pac is the most overrated rapper of all time, he still slips in at 9. Take away his one "thug" album, and hes a lyricist, not a rapper.

8. Mos Def

Mos Def has a shot at #1 but he doesn't drop enough. He does movies, produces, etc. He's had a few above average albums, but his collab with Talib Kweli is what I consider the greatest rap album of all time. That puts him at 8....

7. Z-Ro

The greatest Southern rapper of all time. A street genius. His voice along with HIS chorus make his songs very genuine, and deep at the same time. He doesn't dumb down his lyrics he speaks what we should see.

6. Big L

Big L, if he would have lived AT LEAST another 5 years, would be in the Top 3. The man who introduced us to J-Hova(Jay-Z) himself was 5 years ahead of his time. His smooth, freestyle(battle) type raps were unheard of. The greatest battle MC of all time...

5. Jay-Z

I think Jay-Z is the most talented rapper ever to be in the game. He has the potential to lock up the #1 spot, and more. You can say the money got to him though. He put's out albums that make him seem lazy. Half is fire, the other half leaves you thinking..."huh"? The man doesn't even write lyrics, he just goes in the booth and spits it to a beat.

-- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wY49ACqHJEQ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUiv617LUAo)

4. Rakim

The originator of the lyrical rapper. He, by far, is the most influental rapper of all time.

-- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oracJP6kIWY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUiv617LUAo)

3. Talib Kweli

The new age savior. The only rapper in 2007 that is big time keeping it real. He can rap about politics and the streets at the same time. His voice is amazing, perfect for his style.

2. Nas

God's son. Rap's son. The man who made the greatest album of all time, in any genre(Illmatic). Nas is in a league of his own, switching from all rap when it's changed. He would be the greatest of all time if not for his politics and beef with so many artists which take away from his time and talent.

1. Immortal Technique

The rapper who has everything, except the look. The reason he isn't the best selling artist of all time is being his ryhmes and words are so true. He speaks what we want to say, but can't, and then more. He's had million dollar offers but refused because he knows that would sell himself out. I can't explain him in words really, just listen for yourself...you'll be amazed.

-- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntQfkc7DRsY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pncvkr9-GqY)

This isn't 50 Cent, this is lyrical poetry. Something rock can never accomplish.

Tupac is vastly overrated, but still revolutionized the game.

rap sucks rock sucks emo sucks all forms of music suck period these days.

Even though i was very young but in those young days music had meaning it wasn't just a means of getting a quick buck.

I mean come on. Every rapper raps about his struggles, then makes the album about how great his life is. The dedicates an album to his fans and resorts to singing about the same crap as everything else.

Rock is no different. Began to sing about how much there life sucks, continuously babble about suicide and drugs. Make another album about how they love their fans and they will never forget you. Then began to try and reach in and sing about current events in the same manor and form that every other band does. Then they resort back to singing about how much our lives suck. And try and reach out to the younger generation with claims our parents are to blame for our sucky lives.

Emo is just based around constant depression, and when people fell into this current pop culture genre and it took much more criticism, negative to say. They tried to steer into Scream-o which is the same fashion with a failed knock off version of the 80's.

In every genre their is one person who stays true while the rest of the followers just do it for a quick buck.

Don't insult lyrical poetry like that. Rap is about hate and anger....ALL about hate and anger, and degredation of females and anyone seen as inferior....and it's God IS the almighty dollar and how many of them they can trick you BELIEVERS out of.

Geeze.....wake up and smell the coffee.

Rap is the most negative form of communication ever wrought upon this planet.

Obviously your rap and my rap are different and your rap isn't being played where I can hear it.

I'm a mailman, on the street all day, and I hear PLENTY of Rap, being blared out of speakers in the front yard as some dude washes his car, hits on a chic, mingles with his buddies, or makes drug deals. I hear them all the time drive by me with their words blaring all over the neighborhood.

Jeesh, I hear more Rap than you kids do, and all I hear is nasty cursing, and anger and hate and excuses as to why their lives suck instead of remedies as to how to make their lives better....unless popping a cap in somebody is a remedy for that. All this is forced upon the little kids because the disrespectful idiots who play it think that everone in the neighborhood wants to hear it too, and that the parents want their kids to hear all that idiotic cussing, ad nauseum.

Maybe I am a closed minded moronic schmuck, but I know you are, so what am I. :D

I'll give it a try, I really will, but what you speak of and what I hear on the street are way different, and I believe that what I hear is the predominant feeling of most of the "rappers". Most of those guys, no matter what race they are, look at me like they want to kick my butt just because I'm white with a good job. I base that on the comments I hear behind my back also.

i guess the main reason i never listen to them was because i am not into that regular hip-hop. i never really liked it. i like that harder rap like. ugk,lil john, pac, scareface and the ghetto boys, t.i stuff like that. i use to like hip-hop back in the old days late 80's early 90's though when i was all into yo mtv raps every saturday 2 times a day.

What's the criteria to be considered a "Top 10 Rapper"?
Is it Lyrics?....Beats and baselines? Or catchy hooks?....Call me old school....but when I think Best "Rappers" Master P.....Percy Miller....is no where NEAR the top.
When looking for a top 10 rapper....print the lyrics out.....read them....and it should make sense...take out the killer bass...the adlibs and catchy club hooks.....it should be like reading poetry.

I own a very select group of rap albums. I don't really like most of the modern stuff. Too much club and cristal. I like stuff that tells a story, so I guess that qualifies as more old school.

I got into rap being around sports all my life, and some of that is great pre-game music.

I'll shoot my credibility on this topic to crap right off the bat with this, but I have just about every South Park Mexican record. Some of his stuff is pretty genious lyrically, especially off of his earlier albums Hustletown and Power Moves. Hustletown went gold and he started out giving it away on the streets in Houston for free as a demo.

My favorite rap song is probably Today Was a Good Day by Ice Cube.

As far as groups go...A Tribe Called Quest, Bone Thugs & Harmony, Cypress Hill are a few I like.

Vanilla Ice and that guy Snow who sang "Informer"-- that's my number 1 and two.

Three would probably be Shaq.

A Tribe Called Quest is very underrated. Could Bone Thugs & Harmony be considered blatant "rap"?

Me either. I really hate it. I'm just posting because I'm bored.
I saw a movie preview the other night and it looks as if Breaking(Break Dancing) is coming back. Hip-Hop is dying like Disco. If they have run out of new stuff, it won't be long. I'm keeping my hopes up.

are yu saying rappers or mcs? rappers represent the interests of corporate america and record companies, mcs represent the hip hop culture. so my top ten mcs of all time are as follows

1 tupac
2 rakim
3 nas
4 biggie
5 jay z
6 ll cool j
7krs one
8 common
9 big daddy kane
10 chuck d

I like the list for the most part. Somewhere nearby I wold also include Kurtis Blow and Afrika Bambaata (and associated individuals from that early era). Although they are sometimes part of the present problem with Hip Hop (RE Tip Drill and Booty Poppin Videos, to name only a few), I actually think the latter works of Nelly and Ludacris will be much better than their first. Time will literally tell.

I would say that the twelve prophets of the Old Testament (I'll call them the Prophetic Posse) would make some pretty good rappers. They were pretty sarcastic and explicit in places in denouncing the idolatries of the people. The way Ezekiel, for example, would talk about those who behaved like whores either literally or spiritually, I could swear maybe they would be borrowing the beats of Luda's 2001 song to talk about it.

I saw someone mention Emo and Screamo and Emo/Screamo. What in the wide world of sports is that type of music? Give me some bands and names of tunes so I can download them and listen.

I googled it and I got this definition which I am linking you. I don't know any bands, because I have never listened to anything called "Screamo".

The easiest thing you may want to do is to check out the wikipedia. Two bands that I'm aware of that I believe are classified as "emo" are Dashboard Confessional and Taking Back Sunday. Please let me stand corrected if I'm wrong. Along with the indie band scene of the past few years, the emo is basically the movement that popularized the idea of guys wearing super-low women's jeans with flares and the like back before the slimmer styles of jeans for guys recently became available once more.
