Somehow a message (http://www.aolcdn.com/tmz_audio/0419_baldwin.mp3)he left for his 12 year old daughter leaked out and is now all over the internet.
Alec seems to have some issues with his daughter not answering the phone when he calls. Baldwin stated that he has no doubt that his ex-wife Kim Basinger and/or her attorney are responsible for this tape going public.
wow....

Basinger might be playing head games with Baldwin and using her daughter as a pawn in the custody battle...maybe...
or Baldwin just very bitter.
Either way, Baldwin just handed the Bassinger camp a nuclear bomb against him for visitation rights.

They're saying if the leak did come from Bassinger's lawyers it might have violated a court order to keep matters in the custody battle private.

A woman using a child as a pawn?
naaaaaaaaah that never happens ...
I'll bet you ol' Kim is all over this stuff man. Alec sounds like a man that has been jacked with one too many times.
But I agree...he just screwed himself with that message.

Exactly.
He snapped and took his anger out on his daughter--certainly through this bitter divorce, Basinger just got what she wanted.
I'm certain Baldwin has no recourse for visitation for a while.

Just think, if Baldwin had kept his word and left the country when George Bush got re-elected, he may have avoided this this very nasty look into the life of a Hollywood hypocrite.

He's a jerk and deserves all of this public embarasssment for what he said to his daughter... Even though he could probably care less... And I don't blame his daughter either... She's just a kid... Who would want to talk to that attitude anyway... Especially a 12 yr old...
Yep, skip the pond...

Here's my take for what it's worth. Something far deeper is going on within this family for him to be this upset. Basinger is no angel either. Personally I like Baldwin as an actor - he does seem a little mafiaish or tough at times though. Something happened to trigger this very angry outburst BUT what family doesn't have outbursts like this from time to time. I think it's a filthy shame that she felt it had to be publicized for all the world to hear. This sort of stuff should remain within their world only. I am embarrassed for all of them for their stupidity. Knowing teens and the way they can be - I'm sure the daughter isn't completely innocent in all of this either. I know my daughters can yank my chain pretty easily at times - I would hate to think our arguments were all over the internet. I don't care that they are actos or public figures - some things need to remain private.

I totally agree with this. I consider myself a decent father, but if you aired some of my private rants (those that I thought were private within my own family) I guess you could come to any conclusion you wished about me as well... I can't stand Alec Baldwin as a political mouthpiece but the turmoil and reaction is no more than his political adversaries and wife using it as a "gotcha" moment... If you condemn him over this then you're either the perfect parent or you're a hypocrite... If you haven't been a parent then your opinion is pointless.

Well, I am a parent... Four kids... 19, 21, 21 & 24... And I have never called any of them anything so belittling and mean... ever...
Have I yelled at my kids, sure... Sometimes you have to to get their attention... Have I been mean and hateful to them? No!
Private moment or not... It just shows how little he respects his child... He was pissed because why? She wasn't there to take his call, again? Who would blame her?
The true character of a man... It's what you do when no one is looking that counts... Well, no one was looking, but this time he was dumb enough to leave his hate-filled comments on a recorder... No sympathy from my side of the street... Movie star or the guy next door... He's a poor example of what a caring father looking for custody should act like...
This is an abusive action on his part, IMO... From someone who's been on the receiving end of a jerk like this, you just don't talk to your kids THAT way... and expect them to respect you in the morning... He's a piss poor father and even less of a man...

Which is the reason many kids are the way they are now - the promises and threats aren't always kept. My mom didn't say "wait until your father gets home" - she climbed the willow tree to get the best switch for my little butt. And this was for minor things like letting the dog out or stepping in the flowers or jumping off the roof. I got a spanking after running into a glass window - then they drove me to the hospital for a tube to drain any infection and some stitches to close up the gaping wound - still have a scar for that one. I turned out, despite what KTCarl will tell you;) , a pretty good person overall...because of the fact that I never wanted to get into any "real" trouble - couldn't and didn't want to imagine what the consequences would be like. Now, calling your kid a pig - that's not right and I don't agree with that but I hear kids calling parents names all the time...that's not right either and just shows the lack of respect that many kids do have for their parents and adults in general. Again, we don't know how deep the Baldwin/Basinger issue goes and how these kids are nor do I want to know...it's their business

Perfect enough not to belittle a child... Mine or yours...
It doesn't make you a man just because you can scare the crap out of a little girl... It makes you a jerk... Whatever their history, I'm sure this won't make it any better...
And yes, ALL parents are oblivious to some of the things their kids do... My Mom still has no clue about some of the things my brother and I did... And I know my kids aren't perfect either... But I also know that I don't have to be an @sshole to be a good parent...

Ha! I'm not a "time-out" kind of dad... And I've helped them get in touch with their "inner feelings" on occasion... It's one thing to correct and guide... Quite another to tell them:
----------------
"Hey, I want to tell you something, OK? And I want to leave a message for you right now. 'Cause again, it's 10:30 here in New York on a Wednesday, and once again I've made an *** of myself trying to get to a phone to call you at a specific time.
When the time comes for me to make the phone call, I stop whatever I'm doing and I go and I make that phone call. At 11 o'clock in the morning in New York and if you don't pick up the phone at 10 o'clock at night. And you don't even have the G**damn phone turned on.
I want you to know something, OK? I'm tired of playing this game with you. I'm leaving this message with you to tell you you have insulted me for the last time. You have insulted me. You don't have the brains or the decency as a human being. I don't give a damn that you're 12 years old, or 11 years old, or that you're a child, or that your mother is a thoughtless pain in the *** who doesn't care about what you do as far as I'm concerned. You have humiliated me for the last time with this phone.
And when I come out there next week, I'm going to fly out there for the day just to straighten you out on this issue. I'm going to let you know just how disappointed in you I am and how angry I am with you that you've done this to me again. You've made me feel like s**t and you've made me feel like a fool over and over and over again. And this crap you pull on me with this G**damn phone situation that you would never dream of doing to your mother and you do it to me constantly and over and over again.
I am going to get on a plane and I am going to come out there for the day and I am going to straighten your *** out when I see you. Do you understand me? I'm going to really make sure you get it. Then I'm going to get on a plane and I'm going to turn around and come home.
So you'd better be ready Friday the 20th to meet with me. So I'm going to let you know just how I feel about what a rude little pig you really are. You are a rude, thoughtless little pig, OK?"
----------------
Now that's a MAN talking to his TWELVE year old daughter... If you thinks that's good parenting, then I hope you don't have kids...
I talk to my dog better than that...
So, go ahead and defend the indefensible...

My horse is not high... My expectations of Fatherhood might be...
Maybe he's an idiot who needs to learn to pick better the first time... Maybe he should BE a father and not a sperm donor... Maybe it's not about HIM and that's his problem... It's about HER... She didn't get to be a Hollywood Brat without help, or the lack there of...
That's what's wrong with a lot of society today, no one wants to do the hard jobs or make the hard decisions or do the right thing by their family...
You're telling me this guy doesn't have a cell phone in his pocket? Hell, everyone I know has one... I'll bet even you have one... So how hard is it for a "Big Time Hollywood Type" to tell his "peeps" to wait a minute, pull the phone out of his pocket, hit speed dial and have a decent phone conversation with his daughter... If that's how he acts, I woouldn't take his call either... It's not about the phone call, it's about inconveniencing HIM...

I knew they were nuts way back in the early 80's and early 90's when they were going to Democratic fundraisers and conventions and making grand speeches about global warming and the ozone layer and how we all needed to make sacrifices to improve the situation, and then you find out they traveled there, and everywhere else, in a private jet.....one of the less "green" modes of transportation there is.
The old "it applies to you and not to me because I'm special", Hollywood elite hypocracy thing.
Forget OU for now, for the purpose of this argument, Hollywood sucks.....all day and night.....24-7-365.

no...to compare their sucktitude to OU...is just not right. It's wrong on so many levels.
Please refrain from using OU as a reference point when it comes to suckdom...it's like comparing Wilt to Urkel.

If that works for you, then good... But it doesn't work for me and I'll bet it doesn't work for Baldwin's daughter either... Just a hunch...I don't think anyone is condoning what he said to his daughter... He called her at the time she was supposed to make herself available and she didn't answer, apparently for the umpteenth time, and he went off on her voicemail... He got upset and began a rant... Most parents (and teens) lose their tempers from time to time and say things to each other they usually regret and often apologize for once they've had time to cool off... Part of the "family" thing is that when things like this does happen, it stays within the family as opposed to being aired nationwide for everyone to judge...
Also, I didn't say I believed what Baldwin did was "good parenting" or effective. All I said was most parents have have lost their tempers and dressed down their kids verbally before and, being one of them, I can't cast stones... I admire that you, unlike me, are able to sit in judgement...

Ha! Drake, you're so full of crap... Don't try to turn Baldwin's actions around and make ME a bad guy...
NOTHING in what he said was out of love, caring, or concern for his child... It was out of anger because HE was inconvenienced over a friggin' telephone call... Even if it was the umpteenth time... And THAT is where the parenting comes in...
I believe that there's a right way and a wrong way to deal with a child... I'm pretty sure that:
1) Telling them they are stupid...
2) They are not a decent person...
3) You don't give a damn...
4) They are a rude thoughtless little pig...
...will not end with the desired result... I'm pretty sure I haven't said those mean, hateful and degrading things to my kids... And I would be surprised if you have either... That's not dressing them down, it's borderline verbal abuse...
I'm sure Baldwin's sorry the recording got out... Hey, that's not very good PR! Now he has to do damage control... And you know we can't have bad press... They want to be in the public eye in everything they do... It's part of their twisted little world... Quite sad...
Hey, If they're not willing to put the work into parenting, don't have kids... It's really just that simple...
It's parents like that who give the rest of us a bad rap...

So did mine - and I turned out just fine....I think:puke
I had been trying to figure you out for a couple of years now.
And who told you you turned out fine?!?!?! :D
I think this whole episode says a lot about Ms. Ex-Baldwin. That was a private phone call intended to be between two family members. You don't publicize that for the whole world to hear. The young girl has two wealthy parents with absolutely no class. I hope she turns out fine when she grows up.

It's parents like that who give the rest of us a bad rap...Are you even READING my posts?? I'm not justifying, condoning, or defending Alec Baldwin OR what he did... I'm just not ready to claim he's a bad parent based on him losing it and leaving that voicemail. It's a snapshot of one moment in time and the fact that it was released to the public shows me that the mother puts her vendetta against the husband ahead of the welfare of the child, so she was probably partly to blame for the blow up in the first place...
I agree with everything you've said about parenting and the uselessness of and even harm that Baldwin's and similar rants can cause. All I'm saying is most of us aren't perfect parents and have said things to our kids in moments of anger/frustration we wish we could take back. I'm sure I'm right about that. In my case I'd hate to think that if the whole world would have known about them there'd be people out there demanding that I lose my parental rights.
No one is saying you're a bad guy. If you never have never lashed out verbally towards your kids then you should be commended. But either way, no one but your family should be judging you as a father because they're the only ones with all the information...

I've lashed out verbally towards my kids many times, but I've never said anything like he said. I have no problem judging him as a bad father after listening to that. He obviously has an anger problem that needs to be fixed before he can be a good parent to his daughter.

Are you even READING my posts?? Yes, I'm reading them...:)
I'm not justifying, condoning, or defending Alec Baldwin OR what he did... I'm just not ready to claim he's a bad parent based on him losing it and leaving that voicemail.Well, based on it's content, he's not getting this weeks vote for being a good one... But then, neither is his Ex...
It's a snapshot of one moment in time... Yep, that's what I mean't when I said "It's how you act when nobody's watching"... Shows a little more of his character, don't you think...
...and the fact that it was released to the public shows me that the mother puts her vendetta against the husband ahead of the welfare of the child, so she was probably partly to blame for the blow up in the first place...Well, we agree here... Using the kids is just wrong... I'm sure she's no innocent bystander to this train wreck...
...All I'm saying is most of us aren't perfect parents and have said things to our kids in moments of anger/frustration we wish we could take back. I'm sure I'm right about that. Me too... And I have said "I'm sorry"... But it's the severity of what he said that gets me off center... Just plain mean and abusive... That I've not done...
In my case I'd hate to think that if the whole world would have known about them there'd be people out there demanding that I lose my parental rights.Agreed... Maybe the only good is that he might be forced into one of their "treatment centers" to help overcome his abusive behavior... But I doubt it...
No one is saying you're a bad guy. If you never have never lashed out verbally towards your kids then you should be commended.I never said that... I said I have never belittled or verbally abused them... There are differences in how one speaks and what one says... Sure I've been pissed and yelled and waved my arms and stopped my feet... You bon't have four kids and not do that at one point or another... But he wasn't just lashing out... He was abusive and demeaning... That's all...
But either way, no one but your family should be judging you as a father because they're the only ones with all the information...I'm judged everyday by how my kids act... Hopefully they do the right thing and represent their Mother and I well...
Kids in general are a challenge and sometimes they can be knuckleheads... Sometimes they loose their way... I just don't think Baldwin is helping his daughter by talking to her like that and, yes, I guess I'm judging him by his actions... If he acts better maybe I'll have a better opinion of him, but I don't think he cares, one way or the other...:puke

Baldwin and Basinger are prototypical overprivileged Hollywood types who should not be allowed to procreate because they'd never put a child first in their lives. Rather, they use her as a pawn in their respective divorce war strategies. It's sad, but as wide points out, she's not exactly on the top of the list of kids to be pitied. She'll have millions of dollars and the ability to choose whether to buy therapy or narcotics to help her "cope". Unfortunately for her, this episode pretty much guarantees that the papparazzi will track her every move for the next 10-15 years to see how she in fact does grow up.
There are some things that I've said to my kids that I regret and would never want aired publicly. Not to excuse some of his over-the-top rants, but in this case I think the real loser is Basinger for releasing it.
They deserve each other. Too bad a third human being gets caught in the crossfire, and a bloodthirsty press and a voyeuristic nation want to see it as it happens.
