View Full Version : So I was drinking seven beers...

...and thinking...if there were 30 of us...
...sitting around...drinking seven beers (each)...
...and a guy walked in with two handguns blazing...
...how many of us would die...

If it was me and 29 of my former military police buds...
I would say 2... maybe 3 before he freeked as we rushed him...hit the ground...and was done in by one of the weapons he brought...

I am sad about the way we raise the next generation..

I'm bothered that 30 people died, too. I've always said that I'd do my best to take down a gunman knowing that I'm not armed. Seriously, if a gunman comes in, why would you sit and cower and stuff like that when he's probably going to shoot you anyway? I'd do my best to save lives even if it meant losing my own. If I had a gun, you better believe I'd shoot.

It has nothing to do with 7 beers. You don't sit and cower at the bad guy. You defeat the bad guy. Those guys play off of our fears. If you want to harm me, my family, or my friends, you better believe I want to hurt you first.

I guess it's a good thing I'm in the military!:p

My wife and I talked about this and we agree with you guys. I don't want to die, but I could not sit by and watch or hear others being killed and not do something about it.

This self absorbed generation has no clue about sacrifice. There are a few exceptions (military, fireman, police, etc...), but most would jump out the window and write a book later about their horrible ordeal.

Instead of buying these books and letting them on TV, the public should condemn them for being cowards. Jump out the window and run while your classmates and friends get killed. Man, that's worth a book deal.

Cal-State Fullerton 1976, McDonalds 1984, University of Texas 1960's....

Every generation has had its mass murderers who come in and shoot up people, and I can't recall any brave civilians storming the UT tower. Everyone there ran, too.

It's all cheap talk, sitting around pondering what you "would" have done

Now I realize I have some military training that gives me an edge over the average civilian...but give me a freakin break...
Even a civilian knows to step behind a building...and not get shot from a tower...
They weren't face-to-face...
They had no idea what was going on or if they did...where the bullets were coming from...

The point is, that every generation has had its moments where someone went nuts in an unexpected setting, and very rarely has some mythical great generation handled it differently.

I think it's strange that some guy who referred to college kids who got fired on in French class as "cowards" thinks I have an attitude problem.

If anyone here has actually been under fire, I'll listen to their criticisms. If they haven't again, it's just "talk" about what you might have done. Big words from people who haven't been there.

Yes and no.

I know it's easy to say what you would've done, but there are some people like me who sit around and think about this stuff. I've had stuff pounded in my head for so long that I don't take it for granted that all will go well. I have to take tests every year about what to do in potentially dangerous situations and how to spot them. I'm not lying when I say I'd do my best to kill you if you want to kill me. I wouldn't feel a bit of remorse about it either. I'm not a violent person, but I sure want to survive.

Mass public shootings are a new phenom....they got started in about the 1960's so it is pointless to speculate what might have happened in earlier generations.

In 1915 a person went on a spree in GA, before being taken down by a civilian. But he had a gun, he did't bum rush him.

I agree that most people will run, but some people are as cold-blooded as they come. For my .02, anybody that is a Christian shouldn't be afraid to die.

I'm not lying when I tell you that I've thought about this stuff almost my whole life. I was living in Longview sometime between 1978-1981 when some cat came into First Baptist in Daingerfield and started shooting people. I've seen movies of bank robberies and stuff like that. Long before I ever thought about joining the military, I was thinking what I would do if I saw a gunman. I have never and never will waver from planning to take out the bad guy. I've got angels that can protect me so I'm not worried. If I die, it was my time to go but I owe it to my fellow man to try to do something.

Now don't get me wrong. I think people are stupid if they get up and start running at a guy in open view. I advocate a covert attack and to close the distance before attacking, but you must be planning an attack.

The people who day-to-day have the more dangerous jobs will be a lot more likely to attack a bad guy.

Every generation since the 60's has been chicken and it gets worse. They'd have a fight on their hands in the old days, on a military installation, or in the country, and in many places in the southern USA.
