is set for this Saturday (4/21) at 10AM. Controversial starting QB Rhett Bomar has had an excellent Spring so far, and I am pretty pumped to finally be able to see him in person this weekend. Everyone say what you will, but there is no doubt that this kid possesses the talent both running and passing to be one of the best in the entire FCS over the next two years.

Gonna be really tough for me to openly root for a glorified used car salesman. I guess I can just pretend he's someone different...but when I hear that name I automatically think ou.....and ou sucks.

He'll do very well at Sam Houston bar an injury. He'll probably break many of Josh McCowns records.

I know he is playing D-1AA football now but I'll be surprised if he stays at Sam for 2 years. I bet he leaves for the NFL after this season. He is an NFL caliber QB.

Well, I'm being selfish here but I don't want Bomar to do too well because I want to see Jeff Welch in there starting for the Bearkats at some point this season! He is an awesome QB and an honest person - that last thing is something Bomar wouldn't know too much about.

I am now BearKatMom too by the way - my son is transferring there next year so I'll have the old SHSU MOM sticker on my car soon:).

I hate to break it to you CyfallsMom. But, Bomar is going to be the starter while he is at Sam Houston. The only thing that will keep him from starting for Sam is an injury.

I know Bomar has many attitude and other off the field issues. But, he is one Hell of a Qb talent. That THSCA All-star game proved to me what kind of talent Bomar was and then what he did at OU was impressive. If OU would of had Bomar this past season they "MIGHT" have made a serious run for the National Title game.

Just wishful thinking on my part - I can send my vibes that way and see what happens:D . I don't care for Bomar at all - and not just because he was a Sooner (which is several strikes against him in my book) but because he's not a stand up guy....I don't care how well he did this spring. I do hope SHSU does well since we are now part of the Bearkat family but I hate to see him get any kudos in light of his past actions.

If Bomar ends up breaking any records at SH they will most likely be those set by Dustin Long - not JM - as he put up some silly numbers in '04.

Also, since arriving on campus prior to the '06 season RB has been an absolute model player on and off the field (as he should be). My point is that he has gone on record stating that this "2nd chance" he's been given is a two year commitment, and if the NFL is in his future it will be there for him at that time. I'm not saying that he won't leave after one season, only that I believe he now views the opportunity to play college ball in a totally different way, and feel it is likely he'll honor the two-year term.

Finally, not to be anal, but there is no longer such a thing as D-AA - all schools are now considered simply Division 1, and fall into one of two sub-divisions: the FCS (Football Championship Sub-division) or the FBS (Football Bowl Sub-division).

Ya, I forgot that Dustin Long came there and also broke many records. He has kind of disappeared off the planet since his High school and College days (Tx A&M + Sam). I thought he would have a better shot in Pro Ball but I guess his overall Arm-strength came into question.

Bomar doing 1 or 2 years. Who really knows right now. If he tears the World up this season and gets the right winks from NFL scouts. It wouldnt surprise me to see him apply for the NFL draft. But, time will tell on that one. He is a NFL caliber QB in my opinion.

As far as the D-1A and D-1AA goes. It's all verbage but the bottom overall line is there is a different level of play between the two divisions. Scholarship limits and overall caliber of athletes on the teams is different (size, speed and talent) for the "MOST" part. They have a whole different Post-Season system (Bowl games compared to Playoff).

They may be calling it something else now. I'm not really sure but to me it will always be D1A & D1AA.

I do however think the very best D-1AA teams (#1 thru #8) on average can compete with about #26-#50 in D-1A and hold their own.

I understand exactly where you're coming from regarding Bomar - I really do. However, if you find the time please watch this clip from ESPN's "Outside the lines." I'm not attempting to change anyones mind, but after I watched it I truly felt as though the kid was genuinely sorry for what he did, and at least stood up and took full responsibility for his actions. The same, however, cannot be said of his partner in crime JD Quinn who has continued to act as though it was no big deal and takes no blame whatsoever.

Made it to the game yesterday, and needless to say, I was pretty impressed with Bomar overall. Although he did make a couple of bad decisions, he definitely showed his speed and athleticism on a few scrambles and keepers. Also, DE Chris Brown, a transfer from UT, looked as though he might lead the conference in sacks this season. This kid is flat out FAST, and was putting pressure on Bomar all day. Overall, I feel this years team should contend for the Southland title, and hopefully a spot in the FCS playoffs.

I agree with you. I think Sam Houston will have a very good shot at the Southland Conference Trophy and they might even make a nice playoff run. I would love to see Sam Houston make it to at least the Semi-finals and they might have all the pieces in place to make a serious run.

I was there too, gotta agree with ya ex. That being said, our kicking game leaves a lot to be desired!
