I didn't know this, but Chad Johnson is a soccer fan. Apparently, he dribbes a soccer ball before every game as part of his warm up and just enjoys to do that in general.

He took a trip to Kenya in the off-season, and he saw kids kicking around a rolled up ball of tape or something. He decided to go get them soccer balls to play with, and said they went nuts to actually have real soccer balls to play with.

It's good to see that side of Ocho because his press obviously hasn't all been good. That's probably something you'll never hear about on ESPN or in the paper. He seemed pretty humbled by the experience.

I found it on ESPN's Soccernet site, but the stories there are hardly ever mentioned on Sportscenter unless David Beckham (read: Posh Spice) is involved.

I know a lot of you despise the idea of soccer, but one of the great things about it is that is the only truly universal sport in the world. The great thing about it is that you can get a game together as long as you've got some friends, something to kick, and an area to mark off as a goal. You don't need all the pads, bats, goalposts, gloves, bases, etc. You can just go out and play regardless of your economic status or where you live.

Next you're going to buy a soccer ball, paint a face on it and call it Wilson.

In the 70's there was the basketball Jones and now there is KT's Wilson.

What's happening to our youth?

Oh, rwilleby has your DVD.

Will Ocho dribble over the middle in traffic? I can only imagine one of his celebrations after score a goal.

Good post, I agree with everything you say. I remember growing up in England, and you described pretty much exactly how it was. Most times we used tree stumps as goals. You could find a pick up game anywhere.
