They have freshman QB that is 6'2 180lbs. Which means in reality he's about165...
Homeboy needs to hang out with Jorvorskie for a couple of weeks.

i just came back from the ou spring game with my dad. it was better than i expected and the atmosphere was great considering it was a spring scrimmage.
the qb situation is going to haunt ou this season, mark it down. unfortunately, there is no clear cut number one. a lot of bad mistakes by all 3 contenders, and this is just a spring game.
based on what i saw and heard, i think sam bradford (#14) will get the opening day start. looked more confident in the pocket and threw some nice passes.
joey halzle (#15) did alright. made a great 47 yard throw and a 20 yard throw, but also made the most mistakes IMO. since he has 2 seasons under his belt and an entire season of backing up paul thompson, i wouldn't be surprised if he gets the start. pretty close race between he and bradford.
(#6) Keith Nichol is one to watch. just a freshman out of michigan, decommited from michigan state to come to ou. in michigan in hs, went 34-3 as a starter and had 9,500+ total yards of offense, and 143 total TD's. if it weren't for his raw status, he would probably be the starter. has a better arm then the other two, and is a dual threat.

there's no way he's (joey halzle) a little bigger than riley dodge (who's 160)...halzle's at least 175, 180.

Looks like Texas is getting to ready to be 3-0 against OU and probably pull off a couple of more victories. I dont like to count wins before they happen but I would bet on it.
How fast things change. All those UO people talking all the smack the last few years are eating some serious crow now and hiding in that closet.

i'll be honest with you, i expect ou to get raped this year against texas. allen patrick is going to have a great year IMO, (he better! ), and ou looks great at depth in RB, but i was not impressed with the qb's. receiver depth looks alright, despite the many drops in the game (but kelly is missing too), can't really tell on the offensive and defensive lines, since they only go about 50%.

ou returns several starters on the o-line that played a huge role in the last 7 games of the regular season.

Even in a down year...ousucks is dangerous. In fact I would rather see them highly ranked than flying under the radar.

Three observations...
One, Bradford is clearly the best of the three, but that isn't saying much. The freshman is probably the QB of the future, but he's not there yet. Halzle wasn't even a good JUCO QB. He should never see the field. I would expect numbers very similar to Bomar's season.
Two, Patrick will start early, but probably lose more and more carries to Murray over the course of the season, if not the starting job all together. Murray is more versatile and a better receiver out of the backfield. When breaking in a new QB, good receiving RBs and TEs are huge.
Three, the defense as a whole should be very good, but it was quite obvious that they are not quite as fundamentally sound as they have been the past two years with Ingram and Rufus in the middle. Lots of missed tackles with the young guys, especially the secondary which was seen some last year. The D-line also appeared soft on the edges, perhaps due to the departure of Birdine and Ah You. The O-line was able to seal off the edges with no problem opening up the outside running game.

My best friend is an OU alum. I dont know how that happened but it did. :) He is a hardcore OU fan and even he freely admits that OU wont have a QB this year.
I think OU gets tagged probably 3 times this year and maybe even 4. Probably going to be a down year for OU standards.:)

demarco murray is a beast...has had an unbelievable spring and has a good shot at being the starter next year. lightning quick. he'll see some carries this year but backup RB chris brown had a good showing today and will help lighten the majority of the load for patrick this year. i can see murray as a percy harvin type of player.

I was at the game as well and the O-line was having a few problems. There were a couple of injuries to some starters but Demarcus Grainger(sp) was having a field day, I think he had 2 sacks. Pretty good for an interior D-lineman.
Adron "POOH" Tennell was getting good separation but he did drop a couple.

I watched the game as well. My take is that all 3 QBs have more potential than Paul Thompson ever did. OU will be fine this year. Murray and Brown are going to have excellent years carrying the ball. It's so typical for the tu fans to come on here and say OU is having a down year based on a spring game.

It's not just Texas saying it. Turn on a radio or a tv once in a while...the whole country outside of that trailer park of a state is saying it.
And a little reminder...
After the Texas '05 spring game there were Sooners fans on this board saying that UT should move Vince to receiver...

I was watching the Braves game on TBS earlier and they talked briefly about the spring game yesterday. One of the announcers, Joe Simpson, played baseball for Oklahoma. He said after watching the first drive yesterday in which the offense apparently scored easily, he thought to himself, "If our offense can do that to our defense it's going to be a rough year."
I thought it was funny.

My point was that if Texas is ready for Jorvorskie...they are ready for anything OU will run out there.
I'm not concerned about OU's running game...I'm concerned about Malcolm Kelly exploiting a young secondary.

i don't even consider lane a runner...they're giving the ball to a fat, sacrificial lamb of sorts. i don't think he'll (or should) get a lot of carries next year. patrick and brown don't have the raw power or moving power of lane (most people don't!), but they've got the speed lane doesn't.

I heard that his Gravitational pull is similar to the moon's. Creating an imbalance in the weather which intern caused Hurricanes and other major weather catastrophes.
But i havent done an official study on the rumor.

Don't know if anyone has reported this yet but... former SLC QB and Offensive POY from 2002, Chase Wasson, has received a waiver from the NCAA to transfer from Texas State to OU. He will graduate from Texas State this May. He will be offered a scholarship and will compete for the starting QB job next year in his final year of eligibility. After that, he will serve as a Graduate Assistant. Don't be surprised to see him starting next year. Apparently, the coaches are very excited to have him.

Wasson is tough as nails, but this one puzzles me a bit. He never truly started at qb for Texas State and was playing rb last year in a limited capacity if memory serves me.
Best of success to Chase, but I mark this down as a flyer right now, I'm sure he's happy to prove me and others dead wrong.

It's nothing against Wasson, but 5'10 QBs who couldn't stay at QB at the 1-AA level don't just come in and start for a program like Mobilhoma... I don't care how bad their QB situation is.

Hey, I think CKE may be on to something. While other so-call football experts have predicted the Dragon’s fall from grace since the end of the ‘02 season, he has solid evidence (from no doubt many hours of research) that the SLC program is going to be bad* this next year!

Here is the article in the Star Telegram. It says he is a walkon. Why didn't he go to UNT? Seems like a better fit and chance to play unless they don't have the education he is looking for.
Good luck to him anyway.

Wasson will play last season at OU
By RICK HERRIN
Star-Telegram Staff Writer
Former Southlake Carroll all-state quarterback Chase Wasson is headed to the University of Oklahoma for his final year of eligibility.
Wasson (5-foot-11, 180 pounds) said he has been granted a special waiver by the NCAA allowing him to transfer to Oklahoma after he was released from Texas State. After redshirting his freshman year, Wasson played three seasons for the Division I-AA Bobcats and started five games at quarterback last year.
Wasson, who will attend graduate school at Oklahoma and be considered a walk-on, was also a second team All-Southland Conference receiver last year.
Wasson, who turns 23 in July, said he will play quarterback for the Sooners, who are inexperienced and unsettled at the position with the loss of Paul Thompson. Wasson, who attended the Sooners' spring game Saturday, plans to move to Norman after his May 12 graduation and enroll in summer school.
"Whenever I started this thing I just wanted to be a part of looking into a program where winning was a high priority," Wasson said. "I want to get on the field as fast as possible and if that's at quarterback, that's what I am going to go after."
Last year Wasson accounted for 12 touchdowns rushing, passing and receiving. He was Texas State's second-leading rusher with 358 yards, led the team with 27 receptions and tied for the team high with three receiving touchdowns. He also went 44-of-82 passing for 442 yards with four touchdowns and five interceptions.
Wasson is 6-3 in nine career starts at quarterback, including a 3-1 mark as a redshirt freshman.
Wasson was named the Class 5A Offensive Player of the Year in 2002, when he led Carroll to the Division II state championship and a 16-0 record. He threw for then-state records of 4,822 yards and 54 touchdowns.
