Did anyone hear him say that last night. Dumb statement IMO b/c they are 9-1 in their last 10 games with the only loss being to phoenix. Kenny called him out on it to but didnt go into much detail. he doesnt alwasy think things out before he says them.

I agree with Charles. The Mavs may still be winning, but look at how poorly they've been performing against their opponents. Dallas boasts a defense built similarly to the Spurs, but have not shown it in the last month and a half. They've given up 100+ in several 1 or 2 point victories against sub-par teams while allowing Phoenix to run all over them. It's not just about the record, but also in how teams earn that record. Dallas has not impressed like they were before.

Charles also says he's a little heavy and a darn good gambler.

i remember double OT loss to phoenix before the blowout.....most teams will get blown out by phownix a time or two if you play them enough times. I think it is a big time exaggeration to say they are slipping. They have been w/o Dirk and still won some of those games.

yup 62-12 were slipping... because somewhere in the last 4-5 games our guys all of a sudden forgot how to put one foot in front of the other... The Colts lost to the Texans... still superbowl champs... Dallas is doing what they have to do to win... thats all that matters... we have the everything wrapped up in the west... we're gonna have home court advantage throughout the playoffs... Dallas is 33-4 at home.... but somehow were slipping... how you agree with Charles is beyond me...

The thing I worry about is it is so hard to keep up the intensity as they have through the whole seaosn and then the post season too. The postseason is so dramatic and stressful. I dont think they are slipping I just hope they can keep their mindset on "finsishing the Job" or whatever that slogan is they have for this year. I think it is pretty much a tossup b/t dallas, SA, and phoenix in a 7 game series so if Dallas loses its not b/c they are slipping.

Charels is eating way too many doughnuts. Dallas is the best team this season without a doubt, yes they have slipped this season but they have enough firepower to make it all the way to the finals and win it this year. Sometimes Barkley is a joke.

it was funny to see his fat butt racing that ref in the all star game. It looked fixed casue that ref runs way faster than that in the games. Barkley falling down was classic.

Teams are going to have times when they don't play their best ball. People talk about how Phoenix has beaten Dallas twice, but yet they forget that Dallas has beaten Phoenix twice. In the Western Conference, the top 3 teams can beat each other on any given night. I'm predicting an All-Texas Conference Final between Dallas and San Antone. The Suns will get beat by the Spurs in 5 games in the second round. It's already been proven that if you get the ball to the person that Steve Nash is defending, you'll consistently have success. When Nash was in Dallas, it was always either the Spurs (Tony Parker) or the Kings (Mike Bibby) that put the Mavs out of the playoffs. Reason?? Because Parker and Bibby would run circles around Nash.
One more thing, there is a great chance that the Suns could see the Nuggets (Allen Iverson) in the first round. Now, I'm not saying that Denver would win, but, Iverson has proven that when he comes to play, he'll kill you. If the Nuggets and Suns play in the first round, the Suns will win the series, but it's going 7.

Yeah I laughed so hard when I saw Barkley fell. It was hilarious.

I'm not taking anything away from Dallas' success or talent, but regardless of record, to say they aren't slowing down even a bit would be foolish. Yes, Phoenix tends to blow teams out. But the fact that teams like Milwaukee are able to score 100+ and lose by only 2 should frighten someone. Losing to Phoenix is one thing, but to narrowly escape most of the games you should be dominating is another. Not having Dirk has something to do with it, but even with him playing Dallas hasn't really destroyed anyone like they used to. Their defense has not been nearly as sharp as it was early in the season, which is a huge problem. Especially with teams like Phoenix and San Antonio gunning for you. Both the Suns and Spurs know how to score and are exceedingly effecient at it. Hence why Phoenix has won the last two meetings between them and the Mavs.

I agree with you on the Mavs' defense. But like you said, teams are gunning for them. Even the games that are suppose to be blowouts won't always be blowouts because, teams like the Bucks are playing for their playoff lives. Dallas has the best record, and teams like the Bucks are going to give it their best shot against a team like the Mavs. Granted, the Mavs are alot better than the Bucks, but when mediocre teams play top notch teams, the mediocre teams aren't going to necessarily roll over and wave the white flag, they're going to give it their all until the final whistle. Can't blow everyone out.

The Mavs are the best team in the NBA this season...they should be favored to win it all this year because the only team to beat them last year is down (Miami)...facts...just the facts....To say they are on a slide is humorous, but way off from reality...They'll get r' done this year...

There have been quite a few interesting things said in this thread.
1. When it's time to win a close game, the Mavs have been the best in the business this year, last night's Nuggets game notwithstanding.
2. There's no doubt the Mavs defense hasn't looked as well lately as earlier.
3. The Mavs are fighting with injuries once again like late in several other years before 2007.
4. I do think they got apathetic with the heavy East schedule in March.
5. Avery is experimenting and doing things that don't always lead to a huge margin of victory.
6. Dallas isn't pulling out all the stops to win games since they have a big lead.
7. Dallas is resting players and with odd lineups and stuff, you can't really get a good handle on where the team is at.
8. I want Dallas to win every game, but Avery is not making his first goal to win at all costs.
9. I think the Mavs will be fine going into the playoffs.
10. The playoffs are long. Once Apr 19 rolls around, all Dallas needs to do is concentrate on that 8 seed for 4-7 games. Then they can worry about Houston or Utah in early May. Dallas doesn't have to worry about Phoenix or San Antonio until late May, so you can see that Dallas has a month and a half to get back to where they were before.
