Spurs have shown, for the most part, dominance over the Suns in recent seasons. Considering how close the Spurs came to sweeping the season series this year, I doubt any Spurs fan is truly worried about a 7-game series with Phoenix. Dallas is the real concern.

I agree. The spurs are the best defensive team in the west no doubt. They can shutdown phoenix. Dallas would have a much harder time with phoenix b/c our d isnt as good as san antones. Dallas/SA will be a great matchup again this year.

I think in the past few years the spurs are 21-4 against the Suns. I saw it on the game last night.

The way I see it, the Mavs were on a freaking tear for the longest. Lets also remember they started the season 0-4, and 3 of those losses were blowouts to the Clippers, Rockets, and I believe Golden State. Since that 0-4 start, they're 62-8 and that is outrageous. Throw in the fact that they've had 3 double-digit win streaks, and a 9 game winning streak, you'd have to think that they'd lose some somewhere along the way. Not to mention, in the last 2 months, they've only lost 3 times. But, you also have to look at the wins. When the Mavs won those games in the last 2 months, they didn't play their best basketball. What I'm trying to say is that if you don't play your best ball for 2 months, but at the same time only lose 3 games during that 2 month stretch, then I'd say that there is little to worry about.

If their defense continues to suck, then I'd say they have two major problems: Phoenix and San Antonio.

They'll be fine on defense, just one of those phases that they're going thru. The Spurs are really a big concern for two reasons;
1. Championship experience
2. They're a division, and inner-state rival.
I still say the Spurs will dispatch the Suns in 5.

1. The Mavs defense was terrible to start the year, got better during the first winning streak, and got nasty during most of the year. It hasn't been great as of late, but many Mavs fans will tell you that Avery does a lot of experimenting with players and lineups.
2. There's no doubt the Mavs haven't played as well lately, but we also don't see very many teams have homecourt all but wrapped up entering April. The last time that happened before this year was 2000. In other words, we really don't know how bored Dallas is, how much they're holding injured players back who can play, how much they've scaled back the offense and defense. Hey, I want them to dominate both ends of the floor, but I'm not getting paid to coach the team. I'm not going to over-react to the scores because I really don't know how well they'd be playing right now if they were going all-out. What I am used to is Dallas playing balls to the wall in April and seeing the Spurs coast a little resting guys while ensuring they still win the division.
3. I've seen Dallas play tough defense on the Suns, so it's not like Dallas is powerless against those guys. I don't agree with Dallas running with the Suns, but maybe Dallas already knows what they want to do in the playoffs and is just waiting to unveil the plan.
4. The Mavs need to drive to the rack more and not take as many jumpshots. Again, all of this might be a ploy to mask what they'll do in the playoffs. That Denver team last night might be a First Round opponent. Wait until the playoffs start to begin to assess where the Mavs are at.
5. Even if you see where Dallas starts the playoffs, remember the season lasts 2 more months and they have time to get better.
6. Let me just say from recent history that winning games against tough teams in April is far from an exact science to predict playoff results. Many times the teams that win in April do so because they need the win more than the other team.
