Just read this on ESPN. Makes it interesting now as it seems Rick Barnes and Billy Gillispie are the two front runners to take over UK.

he still hasnt signed the contract. leaving speculation that he wants the UK job. who can blame him or anyone else for that though?
UK is one of the top jobs in all of college sports.

Looks like Kentucky might not be the dream job we thought it was:eek:

Kentucky hasn't been a big factor for a while. North Carolina and Duke seem to be higher profile jobs these days.

Kentucky is Kentuck and will always be Kentucky. Just because Billy D turns it down doesnt mean a squat of beans.
You know not but 6-7 years ago one could say UNC wasnt the job Kentucky was which is why Roy Williams turned it down the first time. But we know thats not true. UNC like Kentucky will always be a top job.
UK is a dream job and one of the premier college coaching jobs in all of america. If Barnes or Gillispie are offered they are gone.

Speculation has been for a while that BCG has not signed his contract because he will take the UK job if offered.

I think you should be more worried about Barnes leaving.

That press release is from March 30. As of today, BCG has yet to actually sign the contract he agreed to.

As of right now we don't know what contact has been made to Barnes either do we?

I say the odds are better that Barnes goes and Gillespie stays.

It looks like UK has lined up Barnes as their next target. Horns board is heating up with news. I don't have access to it right now.

Ummm... yeah, we've known for a while. It's no secret that UK had Barnes high on their list and jtk could care less what the odds are. Anybody remember the last bad hire Dodds made? jtk doesn't remember either. He just made his new women's coach the 2nd highest paid women's basketball coach in the nation. jtk doesn't fear a coaching search.

The Aggie boards have been flipping out too.....it'll be interesting to see how this one plays out.

I think Barnes has to be their main guy now. He's been to the Final Four, and has more than proven himself as a recruiter. He would be a very good hire for UK in my opinion. I can't see them going with a more unproven coach like Gillispie, but stranger things have happened.

ESPiN News is reporting that Barnes is staying (probably with a raise) at Texas.

Andy Katz is saying on ESPiN radio that Kentucky is looking at Billy Clyde, Tom Izzo, Mark Few and Tom Crean. Crean has already said he isn't interested and jtk really doesn't see Izzo leaving, but who knows.

I'm with the poster who said that maybe the Kentucky job isn't as sought after as a lot of people say it is. At this point they are at about their 8th choice? Never been to Lexington. Is the kind of city it is a determining factor?

im not surprised donovan is staying put kentucky presents a great job oppurtunity, but also a little more pressure because of them being a basketball school known for success as opposed to working in florida a football and basketball school

Lexington is nice and is certainly a draw. Maybe not as much of a draw as Austin, Los Angeles, Chapel Hill, Philly, etc., but it's a nice city in a beautiful state. Their facilities are good (though not as good as Texas, Ohio State, North Carolina, etc.) and there is a lot of support, but Kentucky basketball has much the same problem as Notre Dame football... their past history makes modern day expectations almost unrealistic. They aren't pulling in the top recruiting classes, so UK needs a man that can step in there, make an immediate impact with the talent they have and use that initial success to start rebuilding their recruiting. Kentucky fans aren't really willing to wait that long, but that's what they need.

It was announced tonight on the radio during the Aggies baseball game that Kentucky has asked for and Bill Byrne has granted them permission to start negotiating with BCG.

Talking and signing are two different things. They talked to Donovan also

They were never given permission by the AD to formally speak/negotiate which is what UK has been given by A&M. There's a huge difference.
