Well it looks like we will again be a no hitting decent fielding and middle of the road pitching team with no closer. I know its only two games but they are at home and look weak.

It is way early but those first two games were very frustrating. Not much hitting and a rocky bullpen. Not just Lidge! Hopefully they will not get swept at home in the first series of the year by the pirates. Talk about embarrassing.
I'm not concerned about the hitting...Berkman and Lee will eventually get on track and I think it's a matter of time before they call Hunter Pence up from Round Rock.....it's that damn Bullpen...

Yeah...I know it's early in the season....but starting off like this shows with still have the same problem we have had the past 2 years....Bullpen...and Speed. Astro's are the SLOWEST team in Baseball(Not a brother on the roster..:D) I saw a few hits last night that if the guy had a little more speed, a grounder could have been a base hit instead of being thrown out at first. We all know that closing the game and run support has been our weakness.
And the "Brother" thing was a joke...please don't take that the wrong way and run with it.:D

The BP was actually one of the best last year even with Lidge's struggles. It is actually supposed to be a strong point this year. Well not so far! Wheeler made some good pitches yesterday and just had a few dinks fall in. That happens!

Looks like Burke, Scott, and Lane all should watch their backs for this kid because he is capable of taking one of their jobs really soon.

I was at the game last night.
The Astro's pen is horrible, they're worse than some of the Astro's fans. The team wasted a good start by Jennings which is horrible since I think those will be few and far between.
I can't say how impressed I was by Ian Snell. I lost track of how many K's he had and when I got home the count was 11. He had the Astro's off balance all game and made Carlos Lee look stupid up there a few times.
Xavier Nady's homerun in the second inning was an absoloute bomb. He hit the train tracks above the crawford seats. I'm still upset the Mets dealt him.
If the Pirates get a little more offense and a reliable arm in the bullpen, they'll leap frog the Astros in the division. They have an extremely strong and young starting rotation, Snell is only 25 (I think).

Well I can understand that Ausmus is in the lineup primarily because he is good with the pitchers. If he wants to hit but doesn't want to screw the team up with his horrible defense, go to the AL. It wouldn't hurt, hell the Astro fans might have something to be happy for if he goes and they get a better hitting catcher.

Someone please tell me why we kept Adam Everett?
Just a guess...he's either nailing Drayton's daughter...or he has naked pictures of him and Grant Teaff.

I just saw where Ausmus struck out looking with a man on third with one out. Basic fundamentals damnit. You never watch a third strike with a man on third with 1 out. Make contact somehow some way, your a professional for goodness sakes. I can understand striking out swinging but looking.

Dawg, I could live with it once in a while if he would swing at the pretty first pitch square over the plate.

When I was coaching little league I had a few kids that almost never swung the bat so one day I decided to make them go to the plate without the bat and stand in the batters box. I told them if they weren't interested in hitting the ball there was no sense in lugging a heavy old bat up there. The thought of looking stupid at the plate without a bat worked and they found out they could actually hit the ball.

another story from the little league ranks...
Had a play happen tonight. We had a runner on 2nd and no one on 1st. The batter hit a grounder to 3rd and the 3rd baseman sees that we're sending the runner at 2nd...runs over and touches the bag...AND THEY CALLED HER OUT:eek:
Parents were doing the ump duties so I couldn't really go off...but damn.......IT'S NOT A FORCED OUT SHE HAS TO TAG HER...I felt like I was explaining the game to a bunch of children. AND THESE WERE THE PARENTS:eek:

OMG!!!!!! You need to at least know the basics if your going to try to call a game!
Here is a little trick play for you little league coaches out there. It will only work once against an opponent so choose your timing wisely.
Here is the scenario:
You can't lead off in little league and you can't leave the base until the ball crosses home plate which makes it hard to steal when you really need that extra base.
OK: runner on 1st or runners on 1st and 2nd and your batter gets a 2-0 or a 2-1 count. If the next pitch is a ball have the runners walk to the next base like its a base on balls. 99% of the time the team in the field just looks at you and says, its only ball three to which you say, its a walking steal. It is a little underhanded but very legal. If the umpire tries to make your kids go back you explain that it was a steal. It works and it can get you in scoring position if its a tight game.

Dang, the Disastros have won the last 4 out of 5 right now. They hit four homers including a grand slam tonight. They actually scored 8 runs.

We used to have our kids steal second after a walk. Ball 4 and batter heads to first, touches first and takes off for second.

or the old runners on first and third trick...oldest trick in the book.
Runner at first steals second...and the dum-dum behind the plate tries to throw him out. Thank you for the run.
Of course a smart coach will have the SS step over and intercept the throw from the catcher...then you're screwed.

I laughed really hard during the introduction of the Astros starting lineup when Chris Burke called Adam Everett "the greatest SS in the game". We all know that he sucks.

Oh yeah that was almost as funny as the lack of enthusiasm the Phillies guy had when he introduced as his team.

Well, Lidge and the bullpen gave up some runs again and the Stros lost. They were actually undefeated on the road until yesterday. Can you believe Roger Clemens said that the Stros should use Lidge as a starter instead of the bullpen?????????

Rumor has it...Lidge is being shopped around. Not sure what we will get for him. Gerry Hunsicker is a mentor to the Tampa Bay GM and they are looking at trading for him.

I'm tellin ya, the Mets should take a good long look at trading for Lidge. If we can give up a minimal prospect for him, I'd be all for it.
Being with Billy Wagner and Rick Peterson can't hurt.

We should have traded Lidge and Everett along with Ensberg to the Orioles for Miguel Tejada but that did not happen.
