We all talk mostly about football because this is a football website, but which school is the most athletic when it comes to the main 4 sports (Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Track.) Who has the most state championships in all these sports in the past 20 years or so? Who is always taking their four teams to the elite level? For this discussion I am speaking mainly about mens sports. Who do you think and why?

Is there a reason why they included "marching band" ????
Please tell me "marching band" is not considered an athletic ability in this PC world that I live in now.

Have you ever seen the Willowridge band? I know I would have signed a few of them up.

amazing...yes
athletic....not so much

anything a 5'1 ugly chick with braces and acne can do.....can never be considered athletic.

and yes I survived 2-adays more than once so I can say that.

Me as well. Willowridge is in their own universe as far as HS bands are concerned.

Duncanville has to be up there. Wondering which school has won a state title in all sports.

Lufkin has won one title in football, basketball and baseball - that seems pretty rare to me.

Kennedy was president when we won the baseball title. FWIW

I would say Duncanville is on a level no other 5A school is.
They have won 1 in football
around 3 or 4 in basketball
around 3 or 4 in baseball
1 or 2 in soccer and thats just the men
The women have won like 3 or 4 in basketball, at least 1 in soccer and I believe 1 or 2 in Volleyball.
It wouldnt shock me either if they have won some in track and CC. There is a reason why Duncanville is called the "City of Champions" for high school sports in this state.
O yeah If I remember correctly I believe you can add some golf titles too.

Duncanvilles accomplishments in the major team sports include:

Men State Championships
Football - 98
Basketball - 91, 99, 07 with at least 4 or 5 more trips to Austin
Baseball - 75, 76, 90 with numerous other trips to Austin inculding many runner ups
Track - 99
Soccer 85

Girl Sports State Championships
Basketball - 76, 88, 89, 90, 97, 2003
Volleyball - 95
Soccer - 86, 89
I couldnt find anything under CC or golf but I know they have some in Golf.
Duncanville is the only 5A HS in Texas to win a state title in what is considered a major team sport and the girls only lack one in softball.

look i dont think its athletic either, but i can understand why.

your in the 100 degree heat from 7am-noon, 5 days a week.

you wear the heavy uniforms in the heat. you have to "march" all over a field, blowing air and keeping formations.

if you have zero athletic ability its impossible. you have to be in somewhat shape to be able to take the heat.

The most "athletic" cannot be determined by who has won the most state championships. Discipline, community, coaching and other stuff factor into that.

Athletic wise, I'd give my vote to LP

Yeah Lufkin has been to state almost more then anybody in baseball. They are 9th in going to state all time of any team in Texas at any level. The problem is we are almost like the Bills but not exactly. At least we won 1. ;)

I think there is a difference in "most athletic" and "most successful".

Garland, Carter, Lufkin, etc., are always some of the most athletic schools, but don't have a ton of titles to show for it. Whereas, Highland Park is certainly not one of the more athletic schools, in sheer speed and athletic ability, but they have a system and they win more titles than you can shake a stick at.

It's two seperate questions as far as I'm concerned.

The Lone Star Cup, while clearly having a large emphasis on athletic performance, is actaully for all-around performance of a school. As to the marching band inclusion, it may be the most subjective thing on their points list. However, back from Carroll's days in 3A, some of the bands from those East Texas schools we played had more speed in their band than Carroll had on the football team.

LOL. 7AM to noon? That's a joke. Try 7-11 and 1-5. That's what they did for summer band when I did it.

Thanks for the link. After reading the postings I can see there are few schools who have a rounded program. I also think is strange how a town with several schools seem to specialize. In Katy you have schools who do well in football and then another in baseball, while another in soccer, girls softball, track, etc.

Is Duncanville and Lufkin the only schools in the town?

Hopefully, this year! :D Otherwise, I think the best they have managed is a state semifinal appearance. They have won several individual, track and field titles that were not mentioned earlier, however.

Yeah, they beat a good Duncanville team (20-0-2) Saturday to get into the Regional Semis.

you have got to look at metro-areas to find the most athletic teams. A good indicater would be the state track meet or state-wide track results. Who has the best relay teams ect. I would say in the houston area you would look at Klein Forest, Aldine Ike, Westfield Aldine Ike.

Most ATHLETIC?? or best programs? Elsik...well the Alief schools in general have great athletes...but they don't have the programs. Houston Madison, Yates and Lamar also......

Willowridge's band is the truth, but Fort Bend Marshall's Sound Justice and Carter's are up there also. Matter of fact, Marshall's is better.

4x100 relay 1. Ike, 2. Garland, 3. Elsik
4x200 relay 1. Ike, 2. Elsik 3. Garland

Garland High School
2006 Softball state champion
2006 Football Dll state semifinalist
