I realize that topic is a bit hypish...but, consider this....
ESPN fires Harold Reynolds, an excellent analyst by most, while he's under contract. They "claim" he flirted/said something inappropriate to a co-worker. I think they have one person of color now of their 5 or 6 baseball analysts.
They don't renew Michael Irvin's contract. Nothing shocking there, but pay attention to who replaces PM.
They demote Freddy Coleman, the most seasoned talking head on ESPN Radio, and promote Doug Gottlieb with his own prime time show - The Pulse. ESPN Radio has zero minorities on a regular basis now for their 24 hour coverage - all white males.
Stephen A.'s contract is not renewed. Ok, no complaints from me there, but still....
Others....?

Doug Gottlieb is the worst radio personality in the history of mankind.
He came to Waco a few months ago and spoke at a function for ESPN.
He got up there and started dropping David Koresh jokes. Ummmm...not a good idea dude.

I'm a Freddie Coleman fan - it's a shame they demoted him for Gottlieb -- who is truly annoying and not good.

C'mon wide...Branch Dividian jokes in Waco are ALWAYS funny.
Wasn't Reynolds re-hired after that was found out to be untrue?

Funny to me maybe...but I'm not a Waco native. I'm sure to the folks who were actually here when it happened... it wasn't very funny.
As far as I know Harold Reynolds was never re-hired. I hope I'm wrong about that though...I really like Harold....somewhat.

I hope you are wrong about that also. He is a great teacher of the game and has a lot of wisdom to share. If he is gone, ESPN will suck, just like FSN. Besides I cant stand Pete, i love the red sawx, Gammons.

Gammons is very good. He's a New England homer, but if you ever have a chance to listen to him talk about the Cape Cod League, do so because it's some of the best baseball stories you'll ever here told by a man who passionately loves the sport.

I like Branch Dividian jokes. I went to school with one. That's right, David Koresh went to Garland High my senior year. I believe he was a junior or sophmore. I remember him in the hallways. He was very quiet and removed from eveyone else. In retrospect, he had all the qualities of the maniac he turned out to be.

"It was announced on October 30, 2006 that Reynolds planned to sue ESPN after having tried "everything possible to handle this situation quietly behind closed doors," while stating that clearing his name was his top priority.
The Smoking Gun obtained a copy of Reynolds' contract that was filed as part of the lawsuit. Reynolds' lawsuit is for $5m, roughly equivalent to the value of the contract Reynolds signed that was scheduled to cover the 2006-2011 seasons."
So he won't be back at ESPN this year. I'd read rumors right after he was let go that TBS was trying to hire him for their new post-season coverage that starts this year, he might have had a non-compete clause though that would prevent that from happening for a few years, I don't know that was just the speculation last fall.

Good points all and I agree with Wide - I liked Harold somewhat. He was great on Little League and CWS, ok on mlb.
On ESPN radio, however, I really do think they stick with the old bread and butter - intelligent, semi-nerdy white guys talking sports. I'm still ticked Freddie got demoted - I think I'll write a letter or something.

somewhat like Harold.
His MLB coverage is usually dead on...but during the CWS he gets a bit old at times. He uses the term "electric" to describe everthing. He said it 14 times in a UT game once. I counted....I know I'm weird.

If your refering to Michael Irvins contract being discontinued,
I would say no they are not racist.
There is alot better talent available.
However, if ESPN fires Joe Morgan, then yes they are racist.

Joe Morgan is the best color man (that referring to his title of course and not his skin color) in televised baseball.
