ESPN reporting that Ron Rivera will not be retained next season;Linebackers coach Bob Babich expected to take position.

Wonder Why?

Because Chicago ownership is cheap. They low-balled Lovie and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to learn they didn't want to pay Rivera.

What did they offer Lovie? I thought his (Smith's) contract was up before training camp? I say dump Wade and hire Lovie.

Word is that after the Superbowl, they offered him around $3 million a year... less than what Bob Stoops makes. Not horrible seeing how he has been making about half that, but consider that the Tuna was making $4-5 million in Dallas. Mike Holmgren in Seattle makes around $8 million a year. Most thought Lovie would be offered $4-5 million a year.

They offered him a little shy of Bobby Petrino money - not an insult, but not where it should be. I hope he holds out for more.

I'd feel pretty insulted by that if I were Lovie, but know he's not that kind of person. :)

Rivera was just hired to be San Diego's new LBs coach.

How do you go from being considered one of the best DCs in the NFL, a trip to the Superbowl mainly because of the best defense in the NFC, to the unemployment line, to position coach for a team who interviewed you just a few days prior for their head coaching vacancy? Is that not a strange path?
