Just heard on SportsCenter that Michael Irvin will no longer be employed by ESPN.
I'm assuming this is because of his comments about Romo on the Dan Patrick Show.

Oh no! Now who will pick the Cowboys to win the Super Bowl every year and their game every week no matter who they are playing?! Oh wait....Darren Woodson. Nevermind.

What did he say?
Appearing Monday on ESPN Radio's The Dan Patrick Show, Irvin said of Romo, "He doesn't look like he's that type of an athlete. But he is. He is, man. I don't know . . . some brother down in that line somewhere. . . . I don't know who saw what or where, his great-great-great-great-grandma ran over in the 'hood or something went down."
Patrick then questioned the ill-advised statement saying, "Oh, that's the only way he can be a great athlete?"
"That's not the only way, but it's certainly one way," Irvin responded. "If great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandma pulled one of them black studs up out of the barn [and said], 'Come on in here for a second,' you know, and they go out and work in the yard. You know, back in the day."

I thought about it...
And then I thought a little deeper...
What if a white guy working for ESPN made these comments?????
The feces would definitely hit the fan.
Irvin and Patrick have some hilarious conversations. I always listen when I hear Michael is going to be on...
I think he just got caught up in the moment and forgot he was on the air.
Horrible judgement on his part and horrible statements.

Whats wrong with the Playmaker? He must have powdered his nose before he went on the air. He should have known better than to have said that.

That conversation with Dan Patrick happened a LONG time ago. I didn't have a problem with it then, and don't have a problem with it now. I wonder why ESPN is doing something about this now, instead of right when it happened.

ESPN reported Bill Parcells was hired. Maybe that is why he was released.

They didnt give Rush Limbaugh any mercy. Canned his butt quick. I guess maybe because his comments about McNabb got much media coverage real quick.

Apparently this was not related to his comments...
""I didn't do anything wrong," Irvin said.
ESPN spokesman Bill Hoffheimer agreed that nothing in Irvin's network past influenced the decision not to pick up the contract option. He stressed that Irvin had not recently violated any network guidelines or violated any morals clauses."

I would like to see him join the Fox pregame. They could use the help right now. Or I guess second best would have been the CBS pregame to replace Shannon Sharpe.

I'm sure it has more to do with his "Q" ratings.
With Irvin, you either love him or hate him. My guess is a whole lot more folks hate him.
I found it most interesting to watch how he and Tom Jackson disagreed on almost everything this past year. Jackson has a lot of old-school football attitudes and you could tell that it was all he could do to tolerate Irvin.
I guess ESPN now has to find somebody who will reliably back Terrell Owens no matter what stupid things he does or says.

Who cares if Tom Jackson didn't agree with him. Who is Tom Jackson. Irvin is HOF baby. He doesn't care what you think, he is the great one.;)
