Well as most of y'all know, I applied to Clemson University. Well I found out today that the letters were send out today, which means I should know my future on Monday!! I have been nervous and anxious all week. I sent my applications in on Aug 16, which was about 6 months ago, it feels like forever. I'm sure some of y'all are like "why would a Texas girl want to go to South Carolina?!"
well let me tell ya :D
This summer we went on a college visiting road trip. I didn't really think I'd like any of the schools, but my parents wanted me to make sure that Texas Tech was really where I wanted to go. So we drove, yes we drove, and we are crazy!! I visited Univ of Georgia, which I like(sorta) on the Internet, but it was a nasty day and I just didn't feel the "connection. The next day we were driving from Georgia to north Carolina to visit a small Methodist college. We were on I-85 and we saw a sign saying "clemson next left" Little did we know it was for the town of clemson, not the university. My mom asked me if I wanted to go and at first I was like, eh, no I just know they played A&m in football(and lost... i think...), but I didn't know anything else. So my mom convinced me to to go check it out because we were on a COLLEGE visiting road trip and all. When we first drove on to campus, I was in awe. the place is BEAUTIFUL! places on that part of the country are beautiful in a way that Texas can not be, it was just...amazing! WE found our way to the visitors center, just to see what kind of information we could get. right when we walked in we were greeted by the students working there. they asked us about where we were from, and if we were interested in a tour. Of course we were!! the tour didn't start till after lunch and it was about 10:30 then. They asked if I wanted to meet w/ and academic advisor. the academic advisor was great she was so nice and didn't try to make everything sound so frilly, yet it was because.. that's the kind of place clemson is. she then took us out to lunch with her, to show us some of the town(which is tiny by the way!) It was then that I knew I had found my new home. I was sold before we even went on the tour, which was about a 2 mile walking tour in the summer heat, but it was gorgeous!!
So in conclusion( yea stupid taks teaching...)I fell in love with the school because, well it's just great! I'm hoping it will become my new home, but right now I'm just nervous. So please wish me luck because my future is out of my hands as of now, and it's kind of scary!!

good luck, im sure you have nothing to worry about. but speaking from experience, i thought i had it all figured out like you did, but it didn't work out for me, but looking back now i realize that what happened was probably for the best, so take what happens with a grain of salt. anyways, hope that didnt worry you, good luck, and let us know how it goes!!:)

tr, I hope you get your wish but don't think that Clemson would be the only school that holds your future. You should always hold your own keys. If that door is closesd simply pick another. GOOD LUCK!

My parents are so annoyed w/ me, because it's all i can thing about( i know I'm crazy!) but it's something i really want.. and they don't really want me that far away... man I'm just ready to know where I'm going next year, and to get out of HS ( i know i should cherish it, but it's hasn't been my favorite year, senior year)

Congratulations on joining some of the few of us on here from the ACC! By the way, I have an old K&E slide rule, LogLog Duplex Decitrig as I recall, left over from my engineering freshman days at Virginia Tech. It's the one Mom would have you buy. Cheap, but it sure wasn't at the time. Let us know how you are doing next year.

Congrats! But be careful of those Sow Kakalaki folks (North Carolina name for SCers). They are like Louisiana is to Texas. Different breed. Welcome to the ACC.

what did you use for your soph and jr and sr years? the first ti calcs came out over Christmas of my freshman year, and all the weenies had to have one, though they used their slide rules on the sly as they were much more useful. most of them could do the calculations the calculator would do in their heads.

The same one for four years. Simply the K+E was aquired during my freshman year. Prior to that, I had some basic plastic cheapy left over from high school. I didn't get my first real electronic calculator until graduate school. As I recall it was a TI SR-71, or something like that. The SR stood for slide rule; for the time, the thing was amazing. Of course, you can now wander into the local drug store and for $12.00 or so get a calculator that did everything it would do and more.
