I'm sure there are more. But coming out would ruin their career which is why none ever do.
There was an NFL star as well, but I cannot remember his name right now.

I am still not sure what relevance it has for the public to know his or anyone elses sexual preference. I remember the day when you kept that stuff between you and your significant other period, no matter who it was. But I just hate it when people feel the need to make a media announcement of their sexual preference then get mad when they get scrutinized or mad because people are in their business.

Homosexuality wouldnt be as big of a deal as it is now if people could have some answers to thier questions about being gay. What causes? Is it your parents? Do you inherit it? Is it a social thing?
If I knew these..i wouldn't be so uh...akward around gay people?

No gay person has to explain their sexual orientation to me no more than I have to explain to them why I'm fat. I actually like what Garth Brooks had to say on the subject...
"But if you're in love, you've got to follow your heart and trust that God will explain to us why we sometimes fall in love with people of the same sex."
What a person does in their bed or the relationships they have are between those two people and God. It's nobody else's business.

Exactly, so why feel the need to "come out" to the public or put it in a book. I don't really think it is news worthy.

Well, THAT and ESPN is the corporation "publishing the book"....so I doubt ESPN told the guy it was a bad idea. As a matter of fact, I'm sure ESPN said "Hey, it'll be big news, you'll get great publicity, you'll make a few dollars....and uh, so will we!";)

Some of you need to get a clue. Yall wanna sit here and say being gay is a sin and blah blah blah and God doesn't like it. Well, I got news for you. If you wanna sit there and believe a book that was written and edited over 300+ years after Christs death then go for it. The bible was edited to fit the agenda of the early church. So, I believe in Christ, but I don't believe in everything in the bible because I know things were changed. There are so many inconsistencies in the bible.
FYI- To the person that doesn't know if its a choice. It is not a choice.
And as far as this NBA player coming out. I honestly dont think its a big deal. But if thats what he has to do to feel better about himself then so be it. So many people live their ENTIRE lives hidden behind those closet doors. And if him coming out inspires someone to come out and be themselves then I'm all for it. Just like many kids look up to these sports figures, he may be able to save someone from doing something stupid like killing themselves over being gay. In that case, I'm all for it.
I know there are many other gay NBA, NFL, MLB players out there. It's just that they are so much in the public eye that they could never live a normal life (or at least until they retire). It would ruin their career. Also, I am sure they are confused b/c most people tend to believe the gay stereotypes that every gay guy is a flaming queen. Also wrong.

He's not a major star....but do you think if any other REALLY FAMOUS sports star was suspected of being gay and seen with another guy in public that it wouldn't AUTOMATICALLY be announced.
If people suspected Michael Jordan of being gay it would be all over the news whether he publicly came out or not. You can blame the media for stuff like this.
Just like Clay Aiken....he has never even came out and said he's gay but the media just loves to assume he is and write all kinds of crap about him.

I'll go ahead and tackle this before someone else does. This is something they drilled into our heads in the Lutheran school I went to. While there are some religions that preach that it is sinful to not believe the Bible word for word, the ELCA isn't one of those. It's about your trust in God, not your trust in a book not written by God, but by people around him.
anyway, I'm with Miss Kitty. Why are we making a big to-do about this, in this day and age? who cares.... he's not even a star.

If the Bible isnt 100% ture, and the if it isnt taken WORD for WORD...then the bible because irrelevent at every point. You cant tell me that you dont have to beleive in the bible word for word... The bible tells me diffrently.
Think about it. Christian faith is based on the Bible, other then that their is no source of knowledge regarding faith of a believer. The Bible says Trust God...correct. BUT if the bible doenst have to be taken literal and it isnt 100% true...Then Trusting God is Irrelevent... how can you Trust one Verse or one portion but not the rest..??????????
Now Having Diffrent Interpretations is something of a diffrent matter, as long as your Interpretations dont contradict what the bible actually says...then thats cool. Your right to do so. But the bible is either 100% true or 100% false... Its a book of faith, not a novel.

I don't want to get into a religious argument...but it's common sense. I remember in 3rd grade we did an experiment. The teacher went to the student at sitting at the front of the class and whispered something into her ear and told her to write it down and then whisper it to the next person and that person was to whisper it to the next person and so on and so on...then it got to the last person and the teacher told him to stand up and tell the story.....it wasnt even close....it had been twisted and fabricated so much from person to person that the story wasnt even remotley close to the fact.

Common sense fails man time and time again dada...
The Bible says that his word is given to men by Divine Insperation. It explains why its 100% ture...Just because a man Physically wrote it, doesnt mean that those were HIS thoughts and idea... of course if you think their is no God then this entire Conversation is irrelevent because i then you actuall view the bible as just a book... not much i can do their...
Its not just a Book. We can go back and forth and talk about how other things get lost in translation but the fact is that the bible tells me that its 100% ture...and ive done alot of studing.. For a book written by 40+ Authors over a span of 1000+ years i couldnt find ONE contradiction(KJV is the one i use)... The bible indicated all over that God would perserve his word and would with stand the test of time.
Not looking for a religous argument either....
Thats my point. That game was called Telephone, btw, haha.
So you can imagine how the bible has been twisted and added to.

That was the point of my post. I am not passing moral judgement on him or anyone else. That is not my place in this life. But who he choses to have sex with is none of my business nor is it my interest or the interest of my child. To put it out there in a public forum is, in my opinion bad taste. However, you normally only seeing those claiming to be homosexuals feeling the need to inform the general public of their sexual preferences in forums other than those that are porn related. Like their sex life should be general knowledge or coffee table talk. If that is what defines us as human beings, or as a person who would influence another, then that is a very sad, pittiful, shallow hull of a person. I am sure he has allot of good things to share in his book that could perhaps influence someone in great ways that have absoutely nothing to do with his sexual choices. So I just don't understand the whole COMING OUT thing. I say KEEP IT QUIET no matter what your choice is. The world DOES NOT NEED TO KNOW.
And you are correct about the media. They are a grossly preverse group that preys on the humiliation, degredation, tragedy, etc..of others and protrays it as your right to know. I blame them for allot. But the responsibility all starts with us as individuals.

Your faith has nothing to do with whether or not words in the bible are intact. If you're only reason for faith in God is the Bible, that's not a very strong faith, IMO.
He's saying that we will never know with 100% certainty if the men who wrote the bible are who they said they are.
Exactly...there is just some things you don't question...because of the person who told you the information....Your grandmother would tell you to do this or to do that....even if it didnt make sense you did it...because it was your grandmother who told you to do it and that was the end of it. It could be out of fear or respect, but you lived your life based on that. You get older and someone tells you your grandmother was full of crap and that their Grandma told them to do something else....a fight can break out. In this story...Grandma=Religion

It has everything to do with Okt0ber, otherwise what reasurance do i have that he actually died for my sins....???????????
God Talks to you through his word...how will he talk to me???? Sending me signs? If you think thats the case, then why cant the bible be True?
God wasnt Quoted...He spoke those words and they Wrote it.
"His word will not return unto him Void"
If you say you dont know that its true, it means you cant know that it isnt accurate...Faith is evidence of things not seen. Things that cant be proven... So therefor i chose to have faith that God gave me the Bible to help guide my life in the right direction. What better Guide can i have then the actual Word of God?

There isn't a need to come out of any closset in my opinion. Live your life, do your thing, work it out with God, but don't post it on a billboard or put it in a book. It is the shock factor. The only thing that shocks me about it is that you (whoever does this public coming out thing) think people should know or worse that you have the right to corrupt my personal space by my having to hear about it or read about it. And this holds true for heterosexuals as well. But it is pretty sad when a parent has to talk to his/her child allot earlier about sex, to explain basic sexual principles so you can then explain homosexuality because public figure decided to come out and the media decides to blast it on us.

What I was trying to say is all in the original post. You can't take everything word for word in the Bible because it was EDITED by the early Church to fit their agenda back in the day. It was put together over 300+ years after Christs death by MAN. You know after that long that some of the stuff was changed. Its common sense.
I'm not saying that I don't believe in Jesus Christ because I do....I just don't take everything literally that the Church throws out there. I have my own personal relationship with God and that is all I need.

i see what your saying

Dada, the media is already bad as it is, and you know how the media is when it comes to T.O. If he came out and said that he is gay, could you imagine what the world would come to?
i couldnt imagine that happening especially after T.O. claimed that his old qb jeff garcia was gay, the media would have a field day if that happend

That isn't very Christian. Glad to see the secular folks have won you over.
Living a life influenced by the Holy Spirit and following the teachings of Christ are equally important in life as your relationship with God.
Homosexuality is a sin. So is premarital sex. So is extramarital sex. It doesn't mean you walk the sinners out there for execution, but you don't accept the actions either.
The former player has the right to make his own decision and actions. The nobilization of his " coming out" is where I have issue. I also question the sincerity of it, as it coincides with the release of his book.
Hollywood and the media loves to ***** itself out to controversy. guess what, I'm not buying...

The teaching of Christ through the Church, or learning on my own? Did you know Joel Olsteen makes 7 figures? Tell me that's not a money grab. Sorry, but secular has found the church.

I said Christian, not church. Christian as in Christlike, or following the teachings of Christ
God hates religion. Many churches have corrupted the teachings of Christ. then you end up with the misconceptions people are talking about on here, as well as some who think by being Christian we strive to be perfect. No man is without sin. it is not wrong to hate sin. It is wrong to hate another man.
