what part of the game really sets the NFL above all other levels?
speed, size, plays, ability.

i think the one thing that does it is the number of personel packages that they role in. the use of 4 recievers, 2 fullbacks, 2-3 TE, and 2-3 runningbacks is just a ton of guys to study each week for a defense.

The audibles and changes made at the line of scrimmage. There are a lot of college teams that employ the exact same formations, personnel groupings and even plays as an NFL offense, but what most of them lack are the complex pre-snap reads you see from the better NFL offenses (Indy, New England, New Orleans, etc.). Most of the burden of that complexity is felt by the QB whose job it is to make the reads, change the play and direct the rest of the offense accordingly. Nebraska and Notre Dame probably have the most complicated pre-snap offenses, but even they are toned down a bit from the NFL.

that is a good point at the college level the play that is called is almost always the play that is run with the QB maybe calling 1 hot rout. if you watch manning he changes the whole damn play in 3 seconds.

Yes, and as the QB audibles and the receivers run read routes, the DB's also have to audible coverages and checks before and in the middle of the play. That's how receivers get so wide open. Somebody misses a check.

In high school everyone plays. In college only the talented play. In the pros must be talented and smart. (except RB's):)

nfl has more of a mental aspect if anything the game is alot faster which means you have to think alot faster.

Everything about the NFL is complex. Just watch the combine every year, and look at how the players are totally picked apart pre-draft.

I'd pay good money to see Mike Leach and his little 3*5 notecard on an NFL sideline.

It sometimes seems slower than high school at times. I hear NFL players all the time say it is faster. Is it just that all the players are bigger, that it looks slower? I can say that from the huddle to lining up it is definately slower.

its more of an effort than actual game speed. college players are hoping one day to play in the pro's so they have something to strive for (national championships, heisman or other awards and high nfl draft projections), more of a drive. nfl'ers are getting paid and have pretty much proved their worth (aside from rookies) so it seems as if theyre content on just goin out there and playing like its just a job.

yea, im not even sure how he pulls that one off...i was coaching a intramural football team for a sorority this past fall, and one note card would not do the trick!!

i dont know where i heard it but manning calls 3 plays in the huddle. a run to the left, a run to the right and a passing play.

im kinda surprised more qbs havent developed something like this, or if they had, i havent heard of it.

Seeing college players live...that's great. College players are skilled athletes.

Seeing pro players live...it's downright ridiculous how skilled these players are. How fast they run through the field. How hard they plow through an offensive line. They are damn fast in person. I mean every player, lineman, linebacker, RB, etc....except for Drew Bledsoe...

Yeah...I've had the privilege to see one Cowboys game in person, and that was exactly what I thought...."These guys are fast". Even the o-lineman, maybe not fast but quick, it is incredible how they explode off the line. It took my eyes a while to adjust to the game at that speed.

Adjustments to the speed are significant. It is defintely a different angle on every play from college. The most complex aspect of an NFL offense, in my opinion, is what happens after the huddle is broken. Audibles, checks, reads, etc. are very in depth and are based on a variety of factors; have to be made in less than 25 seconds; and must be communicated to all 11 players.

It sure seems to be speed to me in a simplistic way. It took VY about 10 games to get used to it, but he definitely adapted. Some never do like Ryan Leaf, etc. (long list of etc's). It seems the great running backs like Reggie Bush adapt quickest.

Plus, it seems the higher the level at any sport, but, particularly football, the more mental toughness and mental execution, if you will, comes into play. Look at David Carr - he deteriorated every year mentally - as has Michael Vick.

Well, I suspect that most teams have a couple of plays they have on audible that they can call anytime in the game.
