Although there will not be any senior football players signing big-time schoalrships this spring, there are several who have made commitments and who will play college football, including some at some very strong academic schools:
Barrett Bufkin (6' 0, 220 lbs, RB-FB) to the University of Richmond (1AA scholarship)
Nick Parrish (6' 0, 195 lbs, LB) to Georgetown University (1AA non-scholarship)
Brandon Anderson (6' 1, 175 lbs, WR) to Fordham University (1AA non-scholarship)
Cameron Downey (6' 2, 270 lbs, OL) to Midwestern State University (D II)
Tony Wurst (6' 3, 285 lbs, OL) to Benedictine College (NAIA)
There four or five who have yet to make their final decisions, but they will either walk-on at the 1A level or play D III football. Congrats to all of them!

I'm surprised Barret Bufkin did not get any D1 offers. He sure gave the Trinity defense some fits. He is a strong hard nosed player.

Don't pay attention to ignorance it comes at you at times when you least expect.
Congrats to your players, they had a terrific season. There are a couple of players from Strake at Georgetown as well, Scott Coffman & Justin Moore.
In deference to this thread, and the community I won't tell "GarlandOwl06" were he can go :D .......I'll just compliment him on how well he represents his community.

Bufkin's only 1A offers were Navy and Air Force, and he did not want to go to either. Most 1A schools projected him as a FB, and many did not want or need to sign a FB, either because of the offense they run or because they were looking at other positions this signing period.
Cedar Hill had a great season, and they were a great team. However, I think they beat up on lots of folks this season. I hope Jesuit has proved to many that they belong in UIL 5A, having made the playoffs 2 out of the 3 years they've been a part of UIL competition. And, we are very proud of our seniors. They all excelled in the classroom and on the playing field. Not everyone else can say that.

Given Dallas Jesuit's history in 5A so far, anyone inferring that they cannot compete at the 5A level is probably either uninformed or making subjective judgments about it. By the same token, when you infer that public school kids don't keep up with Jesuit students in the classroom, couldn't the same thing be said about you?

Not my intent at all...in fact, I know some great student-athletes that have or will soon graduate from public schools. My intent was to state that althought these boys from Jesuit did not receive 1A scholarships, most were able to get into schools that are great academically because of what they achieved in the classroom over the past four years. Richmond, Fordham, and Georgetown are very hard to get into, and three of our seniors will get to play there and get to earn a degree from there. I don't slam public schools because I respect all schools. I apologize if my comments seemed to imply that. There are two boys going to G'town from SL Carroll. There are 2-3 seniors going to Fordham from SGP. Obviously, these boys also did very well. We rarely have 1A scholarship players here (12 in 10 years), but we do have quite a few who do well in and out of the classroom and who use this to get into schools they can't otherwise attend. And, as is the case for some, many will go to these schools havign to pay very little, thanks to FA scholarships. Again, sorry if I sent the wrong message. Not my goal with what I wrote. And, thanks for the kind words. Although that loss to Cedar Hill was a tough one, it helped some to see them beat up on so many others during their state championship run.

You should be proud of your Senior class. I'm sure there are a lot of schools both public & private that have a strong record of kids suceeding in the classroom and on the field. Strake players this year who are entertaining offers are;
Todd Miller - Westpoint
Moses Obenaya - SMU, Yale
Jean Baptiste - Colgate, SMU, Georgetown

I'm surprised more athletes don't pursue college athletics at some of these smaller athletic programs... I realize getting in is a bit more difficult, but degrees from places like Richmond, Fordham, or Georgetown are like finding gold for those that are able to get them...

Hey 1984 Why don't you tell the board if Jesuit gives financial assistance to students from around the city.If a student who happens to play football can qualify for financial aid is he given assistance to go to school there? What are your school boundaries? My point is simply your playing field is not level with public schools.

That matter has been resolved. They are part of the uil by law. Deal with it young Owl. I doubt very much If either Strake or Dallas Jesuit are going to dominate 5A football any time soon.;)

If your point/question is what you stated above, making the statement "Go back to the private league where you belong" is an extremly confrontational way to ask. I don't recall the thread being about a level playing field, but about kids who are continuing their football careers.
UIL had rules in place about recruiting outside of your boundaries long before the Jesuit schools entered UIL........I wonder who they were intended for?????

Tell me wise owl06, what exactly are the boundries for Garland High? How can someone who relies heavily upon OPEN ENROLLMENT in an 8 high school district call out any one else for there lack of boundries?

You're 100% correct. I think they will have decent years and not so decent years. But they will IMO never compete for a State Championship in football. And, to answer his question yes they do offer financial aid to students who need the help, but it isn't predicated on football or any other sport. As I've mention on previous post. If the Jesuit Schools are recruiting they should fire the head of recruiting.

I certainly think that debating the merits of having private schools as part of the UIL is worthy of discussion. I also feel it has absolutley ZERO place in a thread about five young men that have obtained a scholarship to very good schools.
Congratualtions guys!!

LOL:eek: Sounds like somebody Garland BEAT. There are seven High schools in GISD, and it is not open enrollment. Ther are quotas etc. And the doors of all seven schools go both ways. In and out. Garland is not the only district with court ordered enrollment issues. That stuff usually come up right after Garland UPSETS a "rated" team;)

You poped off about the open enrollment at Garland and how that is somehow helps Garland W/L numbers. You obviosly dont know what you are talking about. Im just about like many other fans... You run down my team and you WILL hear from me. MANY districts have open enrollment, and most have strict rules. Until you know what those rules are, you dont have enough info to popoff. Cant think of many teams that Garland has never beaten, A few that we played one time in the POs etc. As far as my own achievments. Na you are right I will not get into that. Except to say that I did have a hog that came in second at an FFA show one time. But I becha you can top that..hot shot/ This all started when a young Garland fan jumped on the Jesuit thing... Then this fig jumped on Garland....OK go ahead...rave on
