Me being the extremely sexy guy that I am got to interview ol' Coach Brown. First lemme say this, the national championship ring is the most amazing thing I have ever seen, aside from Vince Young that is...anyways...on to the interview...i'm skipping all the high nice to meet you stuff, i love UT, if you get beat by aggy two years in a row I don't know what Im going to do stuff....
Me: "Coach Brown, first of all thanks for coming to Waco. We had a great year this year, and we're lucky our expectations aren't at the level that UT's are, even though we all wish they could be. How is it "not living up to expectations" by not winning your "automatic goal" of 10 a year? People are going back to calling you Mr. Febuary, how do you handle that?
Coach Brown: "Well, I try to get those things off of my mind after the season is over. No matter if you have a 60 game winning streak, you're always going to have skeptics. I can't be perfect and no one can, but I strive to do my best. As for the "Mr. Febuary" thing, I actually like that name. I like to look at it as being called "Mr. Febuary" because hopefully I'll be relaxing all the time in Febuary after a great season.
Me: "[Laugh], nice and classy answer Coach. I wouldn't expect anything else. As you can tell, I'm a big UT football fan. I can't really ask you any roster specific questions, but how is the program going right now?
Coach Brown: "The Horns are doing good. Everyone is really happy right now and excited for next year. We like always have big expections next year as I think everyone does for us. We'll see how it works out, hopefully on the better part."
Me: "How does Austin treat you after a win, and even a loss? I can't imagine the Austin faithful being too happy after the loss to A&M."
Coach Brown: "Over the years, and not just this year, they've been extremely nice and classy about the losses. Even though they as Horns don't like losing, most people understand that you can't win them all. If we had a winless season though, I think there would be some trash throwing down on 6th street though.[Laugh]"
Me: "How's the recruiting going? I've kept up with most of it this year, and we have a great class coming in. A question that's on everyones mind is that does the Texas name sell itself in the recruiting process? Do you think anyone could come in here and grab multiple four and five star recruits every year?"
Coach Brown: "First of all, the "stars" that recruits get every year mean absolutely nothing. Those stars can't predict how good a young man is going to be in his college career. It is a very hard job, recruiting is, because you're dealing with young men's future. It's not just the football they thing about when they decide on coming to your school. There's academics, the social life, how close it is to home, what is has to offer for their career and so on, so I wouldn't say Texas the name recruits the players, I would say it's Texas, the great school it is, that recruits the players. [Laugh] I'd like to think I have a little part in it though."
I'll post more later...I'm typing this from my notes and have to type everything out....which sucks...so updates tomorrow. There's around 20 something questions though.
