Ok, here it goes. I don't see how this won't be just about every TV station's game of the week. It will be a showdown and an absolute rumble...Who's it gonna be...Any insight would be appreciated.

what about Trinity vs Lee??
garlandowl08
09-11-2005, 12:29 AM
I didn't think about that, but I would say many news stations will be hesitant to pick a team that lost the previous week...even if it was in Ohio. There's still a good chance of it being them, but to me, Garland vs Carter seems better...not that I'm biased or anything ;) (who kicked us out of hte playoffs last year? yeah, Lee)

I don't think it will even be close, Trinity is really good this year and I dont think Lee is very good at all.

Lee is still a top 15 team!! They are still very good. I would love to see this Garland/DC matchup because they would be a fun hard hitting matchup to watch. I will be in Nac watching my Panthers destroy Nac like usual. We will here all the noise again because they blew out a very weak 5a team in Huntsville and a pretty good 4a team in Lumberton. They will say it is there year to finally beat Lufkin. I have heard it for 15 years now. LOL
Ok back on subject, I wish i could be at that Garland game!! LOL Is it at Carter or Garland??

Since I don't live in your area, where is HBJ and whose home stadium is that? I think this is going to be a toss-up game with the edge going to the home team possibly? I would like to vote but I need to know who is home?

Technically it is a home game for Garland cause it is located in Garland, but it isn't really our home stadium. THat won't effect attendance for Garlandites/Owls much though as it is still in the City. THey chose HBJ to play Plano East and Carter for a few reasons:
1) New Field (Grasstroturf or whatever its called)
2)On centerville road whish is a direct exit from 635
3)"Nicer stadium" Its dug into the ground instead of built up...I still like Williams better though.
4) Bigger capacity (12000 at williams vs 15000 at HBJ)
Owls, correct me if I'm wrong.

I understand there were some coin flips for Friday night home games, Between Sachse, Naaman, North, and Garland. Coach Jorden cant win coin flips, so, the HBJ home games and the Thursday game with South.

I never like to call games, so I wont. However, I wish the game to be intense and injury free. I always pull for my boys but I wont call it.
I've seen the boys this year and size and both speed are there.all hey have to do is play smart, and execute what coach has taught. Last year garland came and shamed us, at home....we'll be hungry to return the favor.
I don't know how garland's team responds to the ground attack....but this year they'll have to deal with the run and pass.
From what I understand, Garland has a pretty potent running attack also. It'll be interesting to see how the boys fare against such a good squad.
The garland fans will be out and the Cowboy Nation is always there.
I think this game will come down to emotion and will, talent too, but more so on emotion.
Let's go cowboys....bring it home!!!

If the first couple of games are any indication, Garland will "SMOKE" the Carter Cowboys. The Cowboys seem to lack the power and dominance they once carried. Carter is too undisciplined to stop the Garland ground game. If memory serves me right, Garland gashed them last year on a simple trap play, basic wing 101?? If Carter can't even stop that, they'll have half a hundred put on them!!

While I would love predict a Garland win, Carter's line size is reminiscent of Desoto's in which our line got pushed around - however last year we handled Carter okay and hopefully have learned from our mistakes from Desoto. Also - i think the Garland team has more speed than Carter has faced so far this year. Murphy and McDowell should be back as well.

Ill make a prediction that garland will win if D-Brown, Murphy, and Devon come back next week on defense then we have D Sloan running the ball Carter wont stand a chance.

I'm not going to bump gums (trash talk), but I do love to receive it. I hope it's a good game but whoever told you this team was undisciplined lied. This is one of the most disciplined teams around. Ask around about the coaching (Wilson). East Texas will tell you, and anybody that watches these guys weekly know. It starts at the top. This is one of the most talented teams Carter has had in a long time, with a balanced attack now, and a good coaching staff. Good Luck Owls, see you in Garland

Carter is not undisciplined. They have excellent coaching and they are similar to DeSoto in a lot of ways, only better. They have speed everywhere, size on the lines, D1 talent at the skill positions, and can move the ball from multiple formations, both through the air and on the ground. Their defense is quick and strong; it can be exploited, but so can Garland's. Carter is likely the best team Garland will face in the regular season, better than Ennis or DeSoto, and, in my opinion, much better than anyone the Owls will face in district.
Those who think this will be another cakewalk like last year are seriously underestimating this Carter team. Last years game was a little flukey - everything Carter did blew up in their faces, and everthing Garland did worked almost perfectly. I doubt it will be that way this year.
This may be as good a game as will be played anywhere in the state this week...

CCBoy, I disagree about the discipline. I believe that discipline is Carter's downfall. The reason why I take this stand is because with the talent level, if Carter were better discplined team, they would be more successful.
I look at the last game ...Michael Crabtree would've had 250 yards rushing against Lamar if it wasn't for those penalties bringing those plays back(though some of those calls were suspect).
I even look at last years entire season; the defense was burned a lot because they got caught out of position A LOT! Those are discipline issues.
I will say that I have seen an improvement in discipline on defense this year.
But the offense will have to cut down on those bone head penalties. When you have a run based offense, 2nd and 20 and 3rd and long doesn't work in your favor too much.
As far as this year's game against Garland, I think Carter will play with an intensity like never before. This is a game they are looking forward to. Last year when they beat Lamar, those heads got real big, and they took the Owls too lightly. And we know the rest of the story: EMBARRASSMENT IN THE BACK YARD!!
This year they know the deal. They know they are facing one of the roughest and toughest and fastest and meanest teams in the area, (Kimball is probably the meanest!). They know they are facing a running back just coming off of a 300 yd game against one of the top teams in the state.
So the Red Storm will be mentally prepared this year.
They know what they need to do to win.

First of all, for Roughrider to say anything nice about GHS football is surely a sign of the upcoming end of the world.
Secondly, Carter has been challenged, in their first game, by Arlington Sam Houston. Many who were there (as I was) will say that Sam could've won the game. They could not stop SH's running game and gave up several big plays. Carter won on a big play of their own, late in the game. This game was a lot like the DeSoto game, without the 5 overtimes.
No, Garland did not stop DeSoto. We will see if it was an abberation or a trend this week.

I agree with your earlier post, last year was a bit of a fluke. In several ways, what happened to Carter against Garland last year, was much like what happened to Garland against Longview in the 2002 playoffs. Everything fell apart early, they got our of their game plan, the the mistakes snowballed...
I think player for player, you are hard pressed to find a more physical matchup anywhere in the state than Garland vs Carter. Both teams love to run the wing T first, and pass when they have to, to keep the defense honest. Garland's defense is most certainly better against the run, despite the Desoto game. I would much rather see them going up against a running team rather than an offense like Ennis (300 yards in 13 minutes....)
I have alot of respect for coach Wilson, and his programs at Carter, and the great teams he had at JT.
I expect a very close, very physical game, and like the Carter fan posted earlier, hopefully no injuries.

By undisciplined I mean, why is the defensive front going to get upfield vs a wing team?? Spread team, pass rush, ok! That is undisciplined, run upfield and be trapped.... What? A wing team trap blocking???
Sam Houston was a talented team last year but they are far from that this year. The Cowboys have struggled early this year, they better break out the "playoff" jerseys for this one!!
Oh, and by the way, You've never heard me say that the Owls are anything less than a talented team!! As much as the complaining and excuse making fans of theirs drives me crazy, I will not deny the obvious.
On another note, I would challenge how good that Ennis is this year. From what I saw, Ennis may have fire power in the "O", their Defense looked small and not very physical.
Carter doesn't stand a chance!! We all know it!

StormingCowboy, I have got to say that you have now clue what you are talking about. The Carter Teams are more disciplined now that they have ever been. Just because a team gets a penalty, doesn't mean the team is undiscipline....heck, I guess every team would be undisciplined according to your assessment.
Last year's entire season, the defense was burned because of no discipline?? Probably got burned because the defense wasn't very good. That does happen, even at Carter.
Maybe you should change your name to something else, because you evidently don't know much about the 'Red Storm'

Just Coach, go take a cold shower and calm down!! I know what I'm talking about. And don't worry about the name I choose to use. Don't blame me because I'm a fan that see things how they really are. You're probably the type that when your team loses you blame everything on the refs!!
There is a difference between getting a penalty here and there and getting a lot of penalties. Of course, every team gets penalties but I guarantee you some teams regularly get a lot more than others. Apparently, you don't know what you are talking about!!
By the way what makes a defense "not that good"? They had speed, size, and strength AND THE KNOW HOW. I would have to say, poor tackling and being out of position. Those are discipline issues.
The difference between champions and just teams with good talent usually boil down to discipline, which starts at the top from coaching.
Yes, Carter's discipline has improved. Yes, Carter has the best coaching staff that they've had since the James era. But they still have some issues to work out before they will be playing in December.
They have the talent to play in December, but that intangible must be there.
In the mean time...... BEAT THE OWLS!!!!!

Well, I couldn't find a link to the story, but today, student at Dallas Carter High School (not a football player, I presume) was arrested for bringing a sawed of shotgun to school. He did not fire i and authorities sya he most likely had to intention to fire it, but this inceident brings up an interesting point. THere is no doubt in my mind that many students from Garland and Dallas and al or many of the other DFW cities have guns or have acces to them. Last week, some students reportedly had a gun pulled on them in the parking lot of Ennis High School's Lion stadium after Garland upset them at home 24-20. No one was injured, but it was still a scary time. I am not trying to make any generalizations about Ennis, Carter, or Garland or any other school, nor am I going to give any more details about these stories. All I'm going to say is the world is getting scarier and I hope no one ever gets hurt because of a high school football game.

Believe me, this has been going on for years and at all schools throughout. Not just Ennis, Garland, Carter, or DFW schools. Anything will draw media attention to Carter. Ex. Fights, Guns, and all the other things that go on at all other schools but seems to get little media time there, but I don't think that's important and you don't have to be scared of anyone in your own parking lot. Most of these guys are good guys and hopefully we can come away with a win this year. Good luck Owls!!

I agree! OMG, it's been a while since I've been to a DISD football game....the last one I went to broke out in gun fire. (Lincoln vs Pinkston....years ago.)
Rough, tired and poverty stricken communities suffer....some of their only rejoice is watching these young men play football....hoping they'll get themselves out of the "scene", if you now what I mean.
But then again, it isn't as bad as it used to be. We just see it more often on tv. But back in the 70's, 80's and early 90's there was some sort of a war going on! Plus cocaine and plenty of other drugs was rampant on the streets. Lots of dealing and death all over the school districts. It was truly sad.
We can hopefully look at brighter days, now. Goodluck tomorrow night to both teams.
And.....Go Owls!!
