Ahhh long time not type! Well I'm back w/ news from the Big Red! How many signees do we have u ask? As far as I know we got the BIG GOOSE EGG... ok we might have 1 or 2, but none that I know of. Yes I believe that even Mr. Ganious is left w/o a scholarship despite graduating Magna Cum Laude and being an awesome back behind a some what weak O-Line. We have many other great players who r also graduating w/ honors who r not signed yet. So NS fans what do u think???

Not taking away from Ganious but id like to see him have that much sucess in a stronger district. I personally wouldn't see that happen. Newton, McGuffie, and Dean would all probably have 3000 regular season yards in that district Northshore plays in. IMO

Finally, a North Shore thread. Thought everyone was hibernating. Like I was.

As far as signees go. I am also surprised that we have not seen alot of NS signees get mentioned. I don't have the scoop on signees as I use to as my kids already graduated and thus don't have anyone on the inside of the school.

What I do hear as far as the future is that NS has alot of talent coming up. My only concern is same as last year. and that is the QB position. Just waiting on the next Bobby Reid.

NOT TAKING AWAY FROM MCGUFFIE BUT HE DIDNT EVEN HAVE 3000
THOUSAND YARDS IN HIS OWN DISTRICT,THE DEFENSES IN 17-5A
WERE TERRIBLE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF CY-FAIR.

AND YES I SAW THEM ALL.A LOT OF TALENT BUT TERRIBLE COACHING.

SAM IS GOOD BUT HE ALSO PLAYED 4 EXTRA GAMES TO GET THOSE
YARDS.HE COULDN'T EVEN GET THE ONE YARD HE NEEDED TO PUT
PEARLAND AWAY.

CY-FAIR ALSO PLAYED A WEAK PRE-DISTRICT SCHEDULE.

NORTH SHORE HAS A RING,CY FAIR HAS?

THAT WEAK DISTRICT ALSO HAS A GOOD MANY GUYS IN THE PROS.

THE QUESTION WAS ABOUT THE STANGS TO STANG FANS.

It would be odd to see North Shore go "O" in the D-1A signees.

But, I'm sure they will have a few kids get D-1AA and D-11 offers.

So would Chirs but he usually only plays 2 quarters 2 1/2 if he gets lucky. I've already looked it up and it seems McGuffie played til the 4th in many games, but I'm not taking away from him either. He's still good! Chris's good believe me. If u put him behind the O-lines that SLC and Cy-Fair had then he would be be mentioned up there w/ those 3. Truth is our OL wasn't all that great this yr. He doesn't get too much recognition out side of the Houston area really the NS area, but if he had more PT and a better line, ppl wouldn't forget his name and he could 4 surely reach 3000... well in this district.

Sam had 8.7 YPC w/ a good OL
Chris w/ 9.4 w/ an unpredictable OL

I think it's safe to say he's good.

As I've said before it's hard to compare stats of North Shore players with those of others around the state. It doesn't really have as much to do with the level of competition as it does playing time. North Shore could very easily leave its starters in until the mid way point of the third quarter the way many teams do, but then they would really be ragged on by the enough is enough police. I know some on this board hate it when we bring up our 03' team but deal with it because I'm bringing them up. That team put up some very impressive number offensively and defensively against some very good teams as well as some very bad team. The point I'm trying to make is that the number they accumalated were done in half the time that others whow were among the leaders had. If Coach Aymond were to have left that team on the field for three quarters or more in every game that season they could have very easily smashed so many records its not even funny. And there were more than a few games where they could have put triple digit figures on the board before the fourth quarter had even started.

Now as far as the Chris to Sam comparisons and debate having only seem Sam on the highlights I am really in no position to say if he was or wasn't that much better than Chris or if they were in fact on the same level. I will say this much I think most every team in the state would have been happy to have either one of them in the backfield or somewhere on the offense.

And as for the subject of Mustangs getting signed to big colleges who really cares if they do or if they don't. I really don't understand this notion of a high schools greatness being defined by how many players they send to what level of college ball. I think we would all agree that there are some team out there that may put a lot of kids in college yet by most stardards they wouldn't be thought of as being one of the top teams.

No it was the one that we had the San Jac Science department create for us. He was the one that was 6'7 320 and could run the 40 in 4.3 seconds. His bench was slightly less than that of a Ford Focus and you don't even want to know how much he could squat.

Haven't heard about that one yet but he sounds interesting. Speaking of B Lee, if you guys have half the team returning you are going to kill a lot teams this year. I'm still in awe over Rashad Mohammed. Did he get a scholarship anywhere?

OK North Shore Signees:

1)Braylon Gurnells:6'2...205...DE: Great Grades Signed w/ the Air Force Academy (congratulations!!!)

We only had 1 signee today. We have others that are commiting but they're doing it outside of the school. I'll try to update u on that as the yr. goes by.

Today @ signing day we had quite a few protesters standing outside. I couldn't read the signs to well b/c I never really stopped @ the intersection, but I believe it has a lot to do w/ the suspicious scholarship handling that has been going on for a while @ NS involving Coach Aymond. I really don't have any answers to questions surrounding this topic all I can say is I've heard about it from some football players. If u wanna know more I def. say look into it.

Nope! Their parents. Although there were many mad players who felt they were screwed over sitting in that auditorium . I am a little surprised that Marcus Jones hasn't been signed w/ any1 though. I mean seeing all the praise he got in and around the Houston area u think he would've been picked up early and from what I've heard he's STILL waiting. Even our dear RB Chris hasn't been signed.

They hit on Marcus is his size. He has that intangible- lotsa heart-plus he is fast and can knock the crap out of a running back. Some small school will get a gem by signing him.

David Aymond's track record speaks for itself. The Mustangs are 71-5 during the past 6 seasons and 121 of his players have gone on the play college football.

I think this is a case of parents have an overinflated image of their kids. Some of these guys are good high school players but don't have the height/weight, etc. to play big-time college ball.

Honestly, this team didn't have a Bobby Reid, Kevin Moore, Willie Gaston, Michael Jolivette type player.

extremely true. Look at katy. They are top notch year in and year out.... but they dont have 13 D1 Signees each year.... but dont dont hear of thier parents crying about scholarships....bottom line.. if you are what scouts are looking for.. then you are in... if not... no matter what the reason..then thats that....

Another thing I think people tend to over look is grades. Not every football players has the grades to get into a D-1 school. You can have all the talent in the world but if you don't have the grades no one is going to even consider you.

Very ture...Its over looked all the time. Thats why i Give Schools like NS, Humble, IKE, and WF free passes... The Talent level is still their, but the kids just dont have the academic portion down.

It happened to Humble this year...i think we also only had 1 Div recruit. But thats ok, because the other guys(some) will have their chance to go div 1 if they prove their worth in JR. college

Well the good news is, is that players are getting signed and recruited they just refused to sign on signing day. Through the grapevine I've heard Chris will be going to South Dakota.

About the OL I heard he was leaving b/c he was scared that if he returned to NS his senior yr. he would have a similar scholarship situtation.

Yes, Justin McNeese from the 2003 team comes to mind. He was a 6'1 225lb back that could drag d linemen several yards forward. Grades killed his D1 chances and he had to settle for juco's.

Thanks Dawg. interesting article. It sounds like sour grapes to me. The truth is, if you play good, have ability, make your academic points then the rest will take care of itself. I personally believe this is indicitive of this years team.
Chris and Marcus were standouts but there was not enough from the other 10 guys to get to the next level. A skin of the teeth win against Baytown and a loss to P Land is the results. I think most NS fans would tell you they did not see any greatness this year therefore not many scholarships offered.

there werent any prototype D1 players... well not many... i think braylon gurnell is a prototype D1 player... he has the size and the speed to fit in anywhere.... gainous was just too short... and wasnt what colleges were looking for... they just need to deal with that.... a good HS career does not translate into college offers... it just doesnt.. and its parents that are making these rediculous accusations .....however... aymonds track record speaks for itself....its hard to argue against having 116+ sign scholarships during his tenure....so yes.. it sounds like sour grapes to me too..

I believe that while the coach and school should help any student wanting to go to the next level out. Ultimately that task lies in the hands of the player or student and their parents. And as far as this years team goes they had talent but what they didn't have that past teams have had was size and undisputible talent. And as was said a good or great high school career doesn't mean a good or great college career just as not all great or good college player make it to the NFL.

As some of u know we've already lost Ralston Dews (OL) to Tyler Lee and word is we lost a WR to Channelview. I'll be sure to update on the star athelete. I wanna be SURE the info is correct b4 I put out names. I just wanted to give u a heads up. I have a feeling we're really about to drop off. Hate to hear that but that happens. NS has been on the receiving end of that also. Think Justin McNeese from Dayton. As I said before, while Aymond will always field a good team, I don't expect a super season. We may even lose a district game. TWHS at Moorehead may be a killer for Shore this year.
If they meet another agressive Pas Memorial team away it could spell trouble.
Mustang fans will not be treated to the type team we've grown accustomed to this year but, I see in the future it will be back. I will be there this year regardless cheering them on.

Nothing wrong with have a few lean years where the talent just isn't there. I mean we've had them in the past and yet when you look at our track record you see that we've done ok. And losing a lineman and a reciever aren't really that big of deal when you consider those are two positions we never seem to have trouble filling. Sure our the talent level of our recievers goes up and down with each graduating class, but it doesn't go down that much. And as far as lineman go well we seem to have the market cornered when it comes to them. So may be the Highlanders finally slay the dragon and may be we lose a district game for the first time since 00' I believe it is. I'd like to think another great run is just around the corner for us.

It happens to every Talent laden school. It comes in cycles. You have 6 years of Supertalent...and then you have about 3-4 years of solid talent... really, School like Ike, Humble, NS and Westfield (their are more, but those are my fav..Elsik..etc etc) were the lucky ones. Talent always their, but it just isnt as Raw some years. NS will be back to the Super talent they like to spew out in a couple of years. And by no means are their players now slouches.. Their back ups still would start at most High schools in the area.

NS should be fine for the next few years. Not surprising to see a couple guys jump ship for more pt. It happens. As far as the scholarships go, there have been rumblings as far back as the '03 team, maybe even further. A lot of parents have had issues with Aymond. But I'm sure it's that way at every school.

I'm sure it will be televised up there but not all the way down here. Only way I could see us getting the chance to see Chris on TV here would be for South Dakota to play SFA, Sam Houston, Texas State or one of those teams. As for it possibly being Matthew Tolbert that was looking to jump from North Shore to Channelview. I have to really wonder what the circumstances were that would even make him consider making the move. I mean why would want to leave a successful 5A program for a really bad 4A program. Sure they had a better expected season than most figured they would, but unless they just have a burst of talent coming through they won't d much in that district.

I have to really wonder what the circumstances were that would even make him consider making the move. I mean why would want to leave a successful 5A program for a really bad 4A program. Sure they had a better expected season than most figured they would, but unless they just have a burst of talent coming through they won't d much in that district.

I don't think they were talking about Tolbert going to CV but another area all together. We lost another WR to CV and and OL to Tyler Lee. I know the OL was a 2 yr. starter but from what I've heard he was put on the field more b/c of his size and not his actual talent, but I guess we'll c how he does w/ Tyler Lee this yr. Knowing Coach Aymond those few losses will be made up for and we will field @ least an above average team... hopefully!

North Shore will be just fine... maybe the defections and the new faces will do us some good... starting with a clean slate... i think we should start at about 11 in the houston area.... and 25th in the state... im still looking forward to a new year.... and im sure it will be another good one:eek:

Tolbert can come join his brothers legacy at Humble, i welcome him with open arms. :D

NS vs WF in 04 and 05: 0-2
