I can't absoleutely confirm this, but from a very good source, Michael Fuda got an offer from Rice and he's committed.
It's about time...I was worried a great player like Michael would get overlooked.
Before everyone get's all over this, is there anyone else at there that can confirm or deny.

Not likely anyone plays both at Rice. Apparently, WG has a bunch of good football players on the baseball team.

I heard it was Texas State....both football and baseball. I thought he really wanted to go to TCU to team up with Andy Dalton, but then I am sure he could not play both ways there.

How is Rice his only D-1 offer? I don't get it. This is one talented kid. Apparently has the grades for Rice as well! Not too shabby. Rice also just picked up Hotard from Round Rock. Those two guys will make each other look good in years to come.

he's got some genetic deficiencies to overcome to play wide receiver, per most recruiters.

Rice should be very excited if he signs because they'll have landed one of the 4 or 5 HS players I've ever personally seen who can seemingly run as fast as he wants. He's got the lateral quickness to boot. His feet don't even look like they touch the ground when he gets in full stride.
These are the only other players I've personally seen who moved as fast as Michael:
Ray Miller, Alief Elsik 03
Jamaal Charles, PA Memorial 03-04
Webster Patrick, Westfield 03
William Cole, Cedar Hill 06

The Chronicle made a mistake about a week ago and said he had signed with T-state. The truth is that he did sign with Rice and plans to play both. The reason why he probably didn't get much looks is b/c of the dropoff he had this yr which doesn't really reflect his ability at all. Any one could see that he still had a good yr with how many times we threw the ball. If Fuda had hit 1000 yds again he probably would have went with TCU or something but Rice is becoming respectful so it's not a bad choice.

he's going to have to please the coach that signed him well enough to let him have the off-season to the other sport. ah graham tried several times to woo luna but wayne wasn't having any of it. bailiff may be amenable, but not right away, i'm predicting. either way, we are glad to have him.

Right now it looks like it's football only. Anyway to try and walk on to a baseball team like that would be pretty tough, I think the time would be better spent in off season football. At any rate if he leaves there after four years with a diploma thet says Rice at the top of it it will have been a very well invested four years. Good luck Fuman.

He would be referring to a very touchy subject in recruiting regarding certain skin tone perceptions of mainly skill position players that's very real unfortunately.

It appears Rice is a go. Fox had a segment on it last night with some video against I think Falls of all things. :)

Michael did commit to Tx State. But that was before the coach left for Rice. He followed the Coach who recruited him. It is a FB Scholarship, not FB/BB as he had at Tx State.
Good luck to Michael and I hope he has a great BB season!

It really is sad, Because Fuda is by far one of the better wide outs i have seen in the last 5 years. And boy could the boy run... hey its the other colleges loss and rice's Gain.
Good luck to Fuda in 07

You know who that really applied to, was that one katy kid on the 2005 team who had that real good game against Southlake. Played offense, defense special teams, I think first name was Will Something. I can't believe I forgot his name cuz he definitely would of got a scholie from me.

will thompson, and he also would have benefitted from a couple of taller parents, too(at least in the recruiter's eyes).

Will is in his freshman year at Blinn. Blinn won the Jr. College national championship this past season. Former Katy stand-out Ryan Mouton was also on that team and was a JUCO All-American.

Thanks, I thought I remember hearing that. I just wondered if that was still the case with all the recent coaching changes. But, if he is already on campus then I guess it's a done deal.

Good point. Joe Savery turned down a football scholarship at Miami to play baseball for WG. If he could have played QB for Miami, you know the Rice football program would kill for him.
I'm not sure playing both sports really works at Rice. You know they are playing baseball deep into the spring and the CWS is in June, so anyone doing that would miss spring football and a lot of offseason football conditioning.
I look forward to seeing Michael Fuda as an Owl, whichever team he plays for.

Wow, I had no idea Savery was that good of a fballer. I sure did like watching him at Rice. Where is he now? For anyone that hasnt given College Baseball a try you have two great programs and two great parks to choose from.

Joe is a junior at Rice and he's the ace of the staff on the #1 rated baseball team in the country. He plays first base when he doesn't pitch because his bat is too good to leave out of the lineup.

Thanks, I didn't know if he declared for the draft. Looks good for the Owls this year. I would love to see him and Hargrove, a tough test for Rick but a game I would have to manage to see.

Not quite. One of the receivers from SLC was smart enough to transfer to UNT and play for Coach Dodge. Bailiff is the coach from Texas St. who opted to let his team run out the clock when they had the player of the year and 3 timeouts. Then goes into overtime and proves there is no O in Bailiff. TX St loses a game they should have won and instead of playing for a Div 1AA championship his players are at the local pub washing away the memory of the coach that choked. Not sure Fuda made a great decision. At least Graham is at Tulsa. Only 1 SLC receiver remains at Rice. Fuda should have a chance.

Hmmm...
What would I want on amy wall, a degree from Rice vs any other Texas school?
I don't see Fuda going Pro. He would stand out at Rice though and have a great advantage with a degree from there. To me, he would be a smart young man to run that route.

Ya, only about 5% of the athletes that suit up on the college level (D-1A, D-1AA and D-11) will make it into Pro Sports for money. Out of those 5%, only about 3% will make it long enough for what could be termed a "Pro Career" to earn enough money to sustain themselves and their family through retirement.
Those other roughly 95% of college athletes would do themselves a huge favor to "HIT THE BOOKs" and get the "Degree."
I love the NCAA commercial that starts off, "Most of us will be going Pro in something else beside sports."
So, if you can get a degree from RICE or really any other University. That's a huge step in life.
PS. I have a few friends that were great High school players (D-1A caliber) and they played D-1A football at top notch programs. They bounced around the NFL practice squads for a couple of years, Played Arena League football and NFL Europe and one was the last cut (twice) for a NFL team. I see them all back in my hometown every now and then looking for JOBS.
It's a tough business (NFL) and PRO FOOTBALL in general (CFL & Arena).

Consol had a player on that BLinn team as well. Davis Orozco was a burner coming out of our backfield in our semi-finalist run in 05. He often shagged punts, but didn't have an arm to get the ball back, so he punted the ball back. He did that a lot. Well, we had Szymanski and Brewster as punters, so no one ever got to see him punt.
Guess what he played for Blinn? Punter. Led the nation in Punting.
Consol truly has been "kicker U" these past few years.

Amen to the Rice degree thing. I'd be rather pleased to see my son come away with a rice degree one day.
