Junior College. I believe they give you the best route to D-1 if that is your goal. Also, you get a chance to knock out some serious baseline schoolwork. Which ones are interested?

Forgot to add that since JuCo is two years there are no "traitor" labels to attach to you for going D-1.

JuCo's ??? Is Blinn interested? That's a great school with a great football program. Notice which is listed first? School, then football.

That suprises the hell out of me that no D1 schools have offered you. At 6'1 230 and a 4.57 40 you should be getting more interest.

When is/was the deadline to sign letters of intent?

if you dont plan on playing in the NFL and you have your head screwed on straight, you should be alright either way. i played D2 ball and a lot of guy blow off there school work and think that athletics will get them through the rest of there life. so if your only intent is to go D1 and you sont think D2 will satisfy your football needs go juco, but at juco everyone is trying to make it D1, and it shows in school work. if you want to go to a 4 year college for FREE you should look at D2 schools. believe me even though you played 5a ball the D2 level is still extremely competative and you are playing with grown *** men. you at 18 will be playing with 21-22 year olds. it just depends on your goals and if graduating with a college degree is your #1 priority going to a 4 year school is your best option. again if you do go juco and you pass all your classes you will be just fine you can then transfer to a D1 if recruted or D2 if not its up to you. if you think you might strugle with your classes D2 is the way to go. Good Luck.

When you say it was your first year playing; do you mean playing football period, or first year playing Linebacker? At your size and speed, there are many positions that you could play. If it was your first year playing, then experience is what you need. On a D2 team, you would get more game time experience, which would help more than anything. Also, you are probably not finished growing. I would play D2 as hard as you can, see where your growth takes you, and gain some on the field experience. I'm willing to bet with your size and speed, other positions on the field may be a better fit for you.
Oops, never mind. I read the articles that accompanied your post. It was your first year at linebacker. I still stick with what I said. Find a position, and get experience at that position.

Not to be a stick in the mud old fart, but what are your objectives after college? What do you want to study in school? No matter how talented you are, the chances of a professional career in football are pretty slim, so take advantage of the educational opportunities available to you via your football abilities. There are excellent D2 schools out there, some certainly better than D1 schools in academics. So choose the school that is the best for your interests and then play ball for that school and have fun doing so.

If your heart is D-1...then go the JUCO route. If you have developed a strong bond with some D-II programs/coaches recruiting you, then that may not be a bad fit either. My son seriously considered JUCO since he had no D-1 offers. However, the best option for him was to go D-II. He is signing with a D-II program next Tuesday and couldn't be happier. His goal was to play college football and to play at a place where he was a good fit. A fit for him was good chemistry with the coaches and a place where he was comfortable academically/socially with the school. Good luck and do what is best for you.

It is a little late in the game to go D1. All the money is gone for those schools even Hawaii has picked their guys. I don't like the Juco route, unless you do not have the grades. Look at the Garza kid that played at TAMKU and is in a pretty big game this weekend. The pros will find you. If you can play. I think you need to look at a school that runs a 3-3 stack or a 3-4 defense at the D2 level. That is important because of how people will use your talents is what gets you noticed at the next level. Big athletic people are hard to find to play those particular defenses. Your coaches should help you with all of this. Ask the coaches at your school for help. Coach LaHue is a direct connect with TAMKU.

as a former athlete, dont let football make your decision for you. Go where your going to get the education you need to make it in life and if they happen to have a football team and you think your good enough to make it then go out their with that attitude and make them believe how you believe. Hell send Coach Dodge a tape out there at UNT..all new coaching system and their LB's coach is one of hte new ones everyone gets a clean slate. I had a buddy go D2 to play ball and tore his ACL in the first game and now he is back at home doing nothing. Had he gone to a bigger school i bet he would still be in school. I say go to a D1 college for your education adn try and play there if it doesnt work out it doesnt work out bud. Best of luck.

this is a good strategy, look at your education first, the only thing is thats it's hard to pass on a full ride.

I agree that education should be your top prority, but the size of a school's football program has nothing to do with how good it is academically. There are D-II and D-III schools in Texas alone that are at least as good academically, if not better than some of our state's D-1A programs.

If it's a dream of yours to keep playing and get a free ride from it, don't close your eyes to anything but D-1A. There are plenty of athletes that love their time lower levels. Pick the school you like best.

And like a previous poster said, if you want to go pro, going small won't stop you. In fact, if you are on the bubble of d-IA, it might be better to go small. You'll get more PT and experience. The pros will find talent-- Heck, the Bears have two d-II TEXAS starters alone. (Danieal Manning--Abilene Christian, Roberto Garza--TAMUK).

Good luck!

Go to Blinn Juco.. They are the best Football JUCO in the nation hands down. It also will give you two more years of maturation and growth and you will be able to decide what you want to do by yourself.
