Excuse the cross-post if you saw this in the College Football forum.
I enjoyed taking this poll and all the nominees are deserving! Personally, I voted for the Golden Showers kids.

Dude at least 7 of the 11 are not classless at all. Since when do we as football fans get caught up in....Who has the most class?
It's out of control.
Leach challenging a play is classless? Why....because he was winning by 34?
So freaking what...he didn't think the play was called correctly. Trivial ...maybe....but not classless.
In the words of Coach Outlaw "It's not our fault they're that bad".

That is one of my favorite quotes from Outlaw.

And arguably the most ******** 'comment' on that web page in response to the 'classless acts'...

Texas A&M's mens hoops team beat Grambling State by something like 75 points the morning of the Holiday Bowl, setting a three-point-shot-related Big 12 record in the process.
Anyone who saw the game or read the stat line knows the starters were pulled, and that Grambling couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Apparently they fired up no less than 6 air balls in the first half alone.

Yeah classless is overrated and used too much these days but Spurrier completely embarrassing and humiliating his assistant coach like that in a press conference meets the description of classless in every since of the word.

I am a Spurrier fan, and I thought it was WAY out of line. Even for him, it was low.

As much as i hate to see my aggs take a loss, I don't think it's classless for an oppenent to want to take it to the endzone from start to finish, especially at the collegiate or Pro level where your players are drafted or recruited. If a game is kept close out of "pitty" then they arent doing me any justice trying to exposing my flaws. The diffenrence between a blow-out and a close game are the difference in whether i need to make some minor adjustments in my program.. or have a deeper look at personnel issues. If one doesn't exploit a weakness, then how is the other expected to see the need to correct it?

By the way, Leach didn't challenge the call. The booth did.( but this just kills the story... )
After Mr Confident, aka GuyMo, made the statement about hanging 75 on the Red Raiders; Leach, in his usual detatched manner, stated, " well, I just hope we score 76."

What was classless in the Holiday Bowl game was the fact that the qb ignored his HC's direction to go ahead and kneel the ball to close out the game. I have to agree here. I wasn't too thrilled when Leach had his backup take endzone shots in the waning moments at SMU two years ago, and the Cal player showed a real lack of discipline and class. f
I also agree with Slorch-- the booth overturned that call, but then again the media wants pirate Mike to be classless.

The fact that Guy Morriss even uttered the number 75 is flat out hilarious. He must have been talking about the Bears basketball team.

I'll agree. Undermining a coaches decision is never a good thing (on the surface), but there may have been some underlying reason the QB decided to go against his coaches decision to down the ball rather than run a play and try to score.
In reference; Notre Dame vs. Georgia Tech (1975)
"THE 1975 SEASON WAS Dan Devine's first year and the team did not do well with his transition. But the team did come around the following year. Also, the ncaa handcuffed the coaching staff my senior year only allowing 60 ballplayers to dress. That was the only year that rule was there.
So, now you can see why the seniors who were in that game that day did whatever they had the opportunity to do. Meaning if they got a chance to score they would go for it. Regardless of the play that was called.
It was not really meant for me, but some of the seniors came running off the field and said now it is your turn." -Rudy Ruettiger
Remembering that scene in "Rudy" would likely give some merit to the QB's decision to run the off tackle play that he did. I don't think it was as much of an act of greed but rather an opportunity to show some recognition to a much deserving, and up coming redshirt in (Schutte) who had little playing time in games previous.

I can kinda sorta see your point BUT.....
There is a big difference in giving a 4 year, walk-on tackling dummy a moment in the sun, and in handing the ball off to, as you said, a highly touted, up and coming scholarship redshirt who has plenty of PT in his future. Big, Big difference, especially when you are up by over 30 points.

What a worthless collection of minutia. I am Texas fan, but any columnist who thinks that OU getting jobbed like they did against Oregon is A-OK is trash - end of story. The fact that the alleged classlessness in this piece is levied against OU instead of the officials of that game says enough to me about that piece that I don't have to read the rest of it.

btw...after that game I said it was stupid...not classless. They squeaked one out against a team that was supposed to lose by a ton....not exactly time for the who's your daddy chant.

I keep hearing that...but I've personally never seen it. Seems that when I came back to Texas...Lufkin had established quite a rep for this kind of stuff.
Although when I ask fellow Pack fans what happened...they have no idea what I'm talking about.
What is it that Lp fans or players have done that is supposedly so "classless"?
I seriously want someone to tell me because I honestly don't know.

I can't say for the rest of the discussion or from personal experience, but I sat by 2 South Garland fans at a playoff game this year and they had a bunch of bad stuff to say about the Lufkin fans who sat on their side at the playoff game a year ago in Nac.

Heres something that happened to me, I came to a Lufkin game ONCE,sat on the visitors side, and while the game was going on, it filled up with LP fans. They talked crap to the fans, started arguements, they would stand up and actually face the fans and talk trash about the opposing team. I had no invested interest in either team, just wanted to see LP and all the hype about them. Really unimpressed by the time I left.

OK, let's use a little common semse here.
In 10-5A games, when you go in one side of the stands, you have to stay there.....no going to the other side. Most stadiums don't sell out either side, ever, so there is no need for teams fans to be on the other side. All their crummy fans are on their side being good becaue the opposing fans are on the other side.
Lufkin travels VERY well. You need more seats than the other side does. Doesn't it make sene that your crummy fans would intentionally sit on the other teams side to harrass them as a group. A few individuals wouldn't do it as they might get their butts whipped, but if you know a bunch of jerks will be sitting with you, it might just make you a bit bolder.
The good Lufkin fans on the other side don't have a clue as to what is going on becaue it's across the field.
From what I heard, there was only a few hundred South fans who bothered to make the trip. Those few hundred surrounded by a throng of Lufkin fans with the rotten element mixed in......well...I could see how that might have gotten nasty.

for one thing, the LP fans sitting over there are late, because the most fans get there early and sit on the home side. There's a higher chance of alcohol being involved as well as the general animosity that is bound to happen- just like 2 brothers sitting by each other at dinner...
once again, it is " I heard that..." Nobody is saying " This happened to me"

Doesn't sound good at all. Someone up there in charge of that program should step up and put and end to that kind of stuff. Like they say, most venues take measures to ensure that kind of nonsense stays away from the games. Makes you wonder if there are a few exceptions still around.

Unimpressed by the few Lp jerk fans you met or by the team? The team does not need your approval. Their regular season and playoff record (regardless of just 1 championship) has proven they are a true power at the highest level of tx hs football. Period! Lufkin does not need your stamp of approval the facts speak for themselves. By the way, every fan has a few a-holes that is just how it is. I sit on the home side at home game and go to all the road games and playoff games and I have only seen a few ever be completely out of line. 99% of the time I do not see it. fans are fans and they get excited at times and talk a little smack. I have heard a little about the crowd on the visitors side at Abe but I doubt it is as bad as some claim. Why do I not see these crazy people at the playoff games when we are all (both home and visitor) together? Does not add up to me?

Illinois used to very solid in some years in football I am not sure what has happened to that program lately? They even went to the Sugar Bowl in 01 and went straight back to being god awful. I mean Illinois has been absolutely brutal in the last 5 years! That program has hit tough times to say the least. Here is what they have done since that Sugar Bowl appearance in 2001

i dont really knew what happend either. mixture of losing recurits from inner chicago to elsewhere and probally the emergence of the illinois basketball program. not sure if the basketball team really does anything, besides maybe popularity or what not, but idk. im pretty sure we had the same coach in 01 as we did up untill 04-05ish. Ron Turner is the name, then he came to the bears as OC. ron zook has gotten some good recruits the last 2 years, so we'll see what he can put together.

That is fine but why would you judge the whole lp fan base over one experience dealing with a few idiots.
Hey Pack, please go back and read my prior posts. I said that I knew all LP fans did not act like that.

On the LP topic... I have been to games at Abe and have sat on both sides. The home crowd was great. Really into the game. Had a great time. I also sat on the visitors' side. Totally different. LP fans were talking trash and rubbing it in to the fans and parents of opposing team. I think they chose to sit on that side just to be jerks.

I have heard rumors over and over about the road side but I would not know? I never have sat over there and nobody on the home side acts like that. Not to mention I have rarely ever seen that stuff at a playoff game when we are all together.

Aren't you the guy that always tells me "wide get over it"???
