I think Seguin, Judson, Smithson Valley are the clear top 3... Although good, I don't think Westlakes is on that level.

Smithson Valley probably has the least athletism, talent, and over all ability of the 3 but their offense is superior to the Seguin and Judsons and can sustain long drives that keep their defense off the field which in the long run makes their defense look better stat wise (less possesions for opponent=less yards and less points).

Seguin has the most talent but Judson's talent is good, too.

I like Seguin's (Maybe a little bias here? ;) ). There really isn't a true weakness on the defense. The D line isn't huge but it is quick. The linebackers are big and fast. The secondary is outstanding . There is at least one legitmate "playmaker" on every level of the defense and that helps. On the linebacking core there is 2 or 3 and in the secondary there is 3.

SV will always have the "bend but dont break D" I would take SV's defense before anyones though just based on the coaches...

I don't want to make anyone mad, but I cannot see through bumbebee colored glasses as some do. I think Seguin might have a strong defense in 255 but I have my doubts they will compete aginst 265. Again, I could be wrong because I haven't seen them play and they haven't measured up in last 20 or so years, but I don't think so. In any case the day will come when they will have to play against the 265 and I beleive they have already lost a game to one of our teams who more than likely won't even make the playoffs.

it was the first game of they year.... but they only allowed 23 to Madison... that was the best till Churchill beat them 27-20...

SV gave up 27 points to Madison. Seguin only gave up 23.:D

Then maybe you'll beat SV! I still have my doubts. You have to start somewhere. I guess this year is as good as any. I'm not trying to make anyone mad. Good luck. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing Seguin turn the corner. We need more strong teams in Reg. 4.

Believe as you please but you can't coach athletism and Seguin has that. It is rare and pretty special when a team has one of the best defensive linemen, linebacker, and DB in the area... or state for that matter. I mean say what you want, but those kids are good in any district... or else Big XII schools wouldn't be putting offers on the table. I know D1 talent doens't always translate in to victories but it sure can't hurt anything... and there are 4 sure fire D1 type players on that defense and another 2 or 3 that could are going to plays some kind of college ball. There really isn't a bad player on the defense. I respect your opinion though.... we can't and wont agree on everything. It is a pretty typical attitude for a 26-5er to have.

If you keep double-posting, you might make somebody mad anyway!:p :D

I'm a big Westlake fan, but I know that Westlake does not belong on this post! Seguin is the best I've seen in person. Though, I bet that Churchill's is good if you forget about the MacArthur game.

I'm not sure how that second post got there. In the case of a 26-5er it's hard to argue with success. Start beating us and we won't be so cocky. If Seguin has this much D-1 talent maybe I am cutting them short.

There is no doubt that this year's Seguin defense is one of their most talented ever. I think the biggest drawback for the Matadors is they don't have to play the same level of teams that 26-5A does and inevitably, their defense will struggle more with stronger competition. It's like the Seguin defense doesn't get a full workout.

To the guy who said a good offense is the best defense, that is a very true statement. Keeping the ball exposes your defense less.

If I have one game regardless of opponent, I'm going to take the Judson defense. They have playmakers and lots of speed. The offense doesn't always take pressure off of them, but they do a great job pursuing the ball.

That was me.... and yes. I am always right.;)

I will agree that Seguin's defense doesn't get the week in and week out "workout" that 26-5 teams do but they are getting more of such this year than in the past.

Madison is solid there.

Although 4a, New Braunfels has proven to be a pretty good team.

Austin High is a good team with a lot of talent on offense. They have a really good RB, a good duel threat QB, and a really good reciever.

Westlake will def. help... they are one of the most talented offenses in the state, IMO.

I think a team with a good RB and duel threat QB will give us the most trouble becuase our defense is agressive.

Overall, I think we are playing a host of tougher teams than in the past. I am, however, worried about the games after the Westlake game. After that game, win or lose, we have two games that really probably aren't going to challenge us before the playoffs. That could be bad... but I try to see it as a positive... while 265 teams will be beating eachother up... we will be rested up and hopefully be able to heal some injuries. Hopefully these past 3 weeks will have done enough to get us "ready".

I willl say this.... SV played SLC as well as anyone in that 04' state game. Very good coaching... which puts their defense up there with anyones.
