I believe it could be close to 10. Most people think you will just get a win against this team and that may be the case in most games, but what if you star goes down during the first drive of the game and is out the rest of the season?:(

You all know how I feel about this one. But in case you missed it, four teams from each district competing in the playoffs for a "state championship" is absurd.

In fact, we don't have a state champ, as has been well documented here on this board.

If we must yield to the outcome-based-educrats on this issue, then the 3rd and 4th place teams in each district should be invited into a consolation tournament. Sort of the NIT of Texas high school football. But let's reward those who excel in district and keep the playoffs for the ONE championship down to two teams per district.

Way too many - plus, others with winning records.

We're going to see some weird match-ups as deep as the third round.

I'm with 78 Spartan on the format. If we must take four teams, than take the top two teams from each district and call it the championship and put the 3rd and 4th place in a consolation. There would be teams in the Consolation that could beat 1st/2nd place teams from some districts, but you've got to handle your business at home otherwise I don't think you can complain. You see that in the NCAA-NIT brackets. Everyone can't go home happy.

It is funny/sad to think back on all the great teams from the 60's-80's that were unfortunately in the same district as the eventual state champ or runner-up, and stayed home. Now, the opposite is true. The more realistic, but totally unlikely step would be to whack the last two spots - have a D1 and D2 - both playing 5 games.

I say let 'em play and if they're good enough to win then they can move on. Euless Trinity would've never made the playoffs last year if you only took two teams because technically they finished 3rd in the district and they went 9-1.

Are you sure? Third?

Are you sure? Third?

SGP 35 Trinity 28
Trinity 31 Imac 24
Imac 3 SGP 0

Now that I went back and checked the scores, Imac was 3rd and SGP won the district. All 3 went 6-1 in district.

If you take 2 teams, you might have a Top 10 team like SV miss the playoffs this year. I'd rather have more teams.

this playoff system is a joke. taking pride in playoffs means nothing now because you can be 3-7 and still make it. not only that but those teams are wasting other teams energy as they roll up on those dynasites 64-10.

Right now there are 13 teams in playoff position with losing records. Two of them are in 3rd place, 11 in 4th.
