Tim Duncan added a few more pounds of muscle in his legs and core this summer.
"He really took it hard last year, not winning the whole thing when we had an opportunity to do that. So he's doing everything he can to be his best," Greg Popovich said. Duncan finished last season averaging a career-low 18.6 PPG. He appears to be over his plantar fasciitis problems and should bounce back with a very strong year.

That might help. I don't feel this way, but some people have said to me that Duncan is soft.

The jury is still out on whether or not they're better prepared to beat Dallas this year. Dallas can still out small-ball the Spurs.

Any team can outsmart the Spurs. Hell I can probably outsmart them.

Not being smart is not usually the Spurs problem. Being less athletic has been their biggest problem in the past.

"It's (back) way better than yesterday," Ginobili said. "Yesterday when I woke up it was very stiff." With his all-out approach, Ginobili always seems to be dealing with some bumps and bruises.

Tony Parker scored 27 points in a win over Maccabi Tel Aviv on Sunday.
That is great news for Parker and leaves little doubt that his broken right index finger is fully healed.

He wouldn't get hurt nearly as much if he wouldn't do so much diving. I know he plays all-out and falls from it, but he also gets hurt from diving.
Fall 7, get up 8 probably has about 4 dives out of every 7 falls.

He should have a better year this season than last year.

Tony Parker skipped Wednesday's practice with a sore finger on his right hand, but it had nothing to do with the fracture to his right index finger he suffered on Aug. 22.
A cut finger had developed a minor infection, so Parker sat out as a precaution and should be good to go on opening night.

Swingman Eric Williams isn't looking like part of the Spurs rotation this season and may not even be part of the 12-man active roster on opening night.
"The jury's out on him," assistant coach P.J. Carlesimo said. "I won't say he came (to camp) in terrible shape, but he got behind." He was kicked in the Achilles' tendon a couple times and is still not operating at 100%.

Duncan is Soft if he was a true board banger... Duncan would be best player in the NBA hands down... and I HATE the spurs more than any other team in the world other than the Stockton, Malone, Ostertag... Jazz

Deep down I don't hate the Spurs more than any team in the world, but I sure hate them a lot more than I should hate any team from Texas.

Duncan has been the best player in the league for a while.

I guarantee you the Spurs will not play small ball this year -- Miami didn't - and the Spurs never should have and they would have beaten the Mavs in 6 last year -- small ball was the dumbest thing they did.

Miami didn't play small ball because they had Shaq and 'zo. The Spurs didn't have half of Shaq and 'zo at center. I'm not sure the Spurs have half of Shaq and 'zo right now. Small ball will not die out in San Antonio. Pop is going to have to play his best players to beat Dallas.

This was his best game with his new team and he should be the opening night starter at center.

Beno Udrih made his preseason debut for the Spurs on Friday and had 10 points and two assists.
He hit 5-of-6 shots on the night and has been out with a hamstring injury. Tonight's performance may have shown Gregg Popovich enough to name Udrih as Tony Parker's primary backup this year.

The Spurs picked up Beno Udrih's option which will lock him up with the Spurs through 2007-08.
It also keeps him from becoming a restricted free agent next summer. Gregg Popovich won't admit it publicly, but Udrih is Tony Parker's backup at point guard this year.

Tony Parker suffered a sprained ankle in practice on Monday.
X-rays showed that Parker's ankle wasn't broken, and doctors expect to know by Tuesday whether Parker will be able to play Thursday against the Mavs.

If he doesn't play expect the Spurs to struggle. Parker had a monster season last year and I wouldn't be surprised if he puts up better numbers this year.

Dang that is some nice stats from Elson. He should be the center this year but maybe he might split time with Butler.

Tim Duncan hit just 5-of-13 shots for 13 points in Thursday's win over the Mavericks. But did get his normal double-double
Fabricio Oberto started at center for the Spurs on Thursday and scored four points and grabbed two rebounds.
He was clearly outplayed by Francisco Elson off the bench. Oberto is better coming off the bench.

Tony Parker played through a sprained ankle on Thursday night and had 19 points and three assists in a win at Dallas.
He hit 5-of-11 shots and 9-of-12 free throws. He has improved his free throw shooting dramatically over the summer and hit 15-of-15 from the line in the preseason. He shot San Antonio's technical free throws tonight after shooting below 71% from the line over the last three seasons. He also loves the feel of the NBA's new ball.
