Pretty good list - and no. 1 is a good choice. I would have Reggie Bush higher and I would swap Elway and Tommy Frazier - Elway was not that good in college. Remember - Elway was the LOSING qb in the whacky game with Cal - you know "the band is on the field" lateral extreme game. Not his fault of course, the Tuba player should have tackled the guy on the 5.

Deion ahead of O.J. is ridiculous.
Bo Jackson is waaaaay to low on that list...as is Tommie Frazier.

Kingsbury and Symons?
Kingsbury and Symons?
Now THEY were products of the system....but at the TIME....the birth of the run and shoot...nobody had seen QB's like Ware and Klinger...

i am inclined to agree with the #1 pick just for the sheer will to overcome that lump of a coach on the sidelines and take the Steers to the promised land.
My only knock on Young would be that he was dominant really about a season and 1/2.
dat Nguyen(sp) was about as good as a LB could be in college for 3 years.
Zach Thomas too.
It's too hard to quantify many players' careers. Is it Payton Manning with all of the talent he had at Tennessee, or Steve McNair at Alcorn St, with nobody to help?
These lists just get drunk guys to arguing:D .

that still doesn't determine whether they were products of the system or their abilities. None of these guys were average pros, but in college it's a different story.

I'm just thinking that at the TIME...you saw Ware and you were in awe..he was unstopable...we now EXPECT things like that from Tech.
By the way...what did peyton manning do in college that put him on this list?

I would like to see Derrick Johnson on that list. Played in every game as a true freshman, and started every game from his SO-SR year. Led the Team in tackles a couple of years. Was 15th in NFL draft, and started playing and doing well in the NFL in his first year. UT is known to have a very good defense, and they are a big time school. To do this well there says something. Maybe just in the bottom 10, but I think he should be there.

I was wondering the same thing. he was Spurrier's whipping boy!

It's impossible to compile a list of just 100...somebody is bound to be left out that truly deserves to be on there. It is also impossible to put them in the right order.

I think some of these on the list are hard to pick without their performance in the NFL comming into play.

Cant believe Casey Hampton from TEXAS is not on the list. Most dominant DT since Bubba Smith. Better than most listed.

Hard to believe that only one Miami player is on the list. Love em or hate em but I wouild think Bryant McKinney who never gave up a sack in his college carrer would be listed on that list somewhere as would the likes of Grant Wistrom from Nebraska.

That list is terrible. I looked for the UH and Tech QB's to see if they were on there. There were too many Notre Dame guys. The single best season in NCAA history by a QB for passing yards per game was Klingler in 1990. Symons has the records for most yards in a season. Barry Sanders is on there for being a 1-year starter in college. By that logic, I know some QB's who should be on there.

Back to my post about their NFL time comming into play. If your going to compile a list like this, you can't look past their college play at all.

There is no rhyme or reason to it. Barry backed up Thurman Thomas, but he was great that last year when he won the Heisman. If it's about the NFL, where are Emmitt (who plyed very well for 3 years) and Payton, who was D1-AA Player of the Year.
I noticed plenty of Heisman Trophy winners on there, but they didn't put the guys on there with the best stats. McMahon DIDN'T win the Heisman, but he put up very good numbers. Ware and Detmer had better years than Jim, won the Heisman, and aren't on the list like him. They made sure they put Charles Woodson, Tim Brown, Desmond Howard, and Rocket Ismail on there, though.

Is this list based on one year of play or college career? VY is NOT #1, yall need to take off the orange tinted glasses. VY's coming out party was the Rose Bowl against Michigan, I'd have put Earl Campbell ahead of VY in terms of college career. VY is top 10 for putting the team on his back last year and winning the title, but not the top.
If there's a category for greatest single game performances, VY would be #1 on my list hands down for the Rose Bowl against USC (the Michigan game would prolly be top 5 too). But, college career? No way.
I think Herschel Walker should be #1, although my fellings wouldn't have been hurt if Baugh or Grange were #1 either. Bo Jackson being #27 and being behind Ron Dayne is just a freaking joke and takes any legitimacy out of this list by any true college football fan. Bo is top 5. I saw both Walker and Bo play and can honestly say, I've never seen a player anywhere NEAR as dominant since then.
My other problem with the list is WAYYYYYYY too many golden domers, give me a break!

Winning the Heisman doesn't mean you are the best player in college football. Look at Vince vs. Bush in the Rose Bowl... Ha.

I'm not saying they did, but everyone seems to be in agreement with VY at #1.

I have no idea what this is based on...Stats, wins, guys who changed the game or what....but in recent history not one person has single handly carry a team like VY did...yet alone all the way to a title...look at some of the other guys on the list...take them out the game and the team probably dosent miss them......Texas is floating around .500 without Young.

.500?? I'll give ya tOSU and USC that Texas would not have won without Vince, but what other games did he pick up the team and will them to the win? MAYBE (and this is a BIG maybe) aTm. OU? nope, they sucked so bad last year UT was gonna win that game if Colt were playing as a true Frosh. Tech? uh uh, road game for Tech = loss (unless they're playing a 2nd rate team). Colorado? don't think so, maybe without Vince they only win that game 40-3 insted of 70-3. Without VY Texas is a 1-loss (maybe 2-loss) team, maybe they don't stomp everyone like a bug like they did, but they would have been in the BCS with or without him.
