How many threads do we need on this. I believe there are 2 others that were started last week.
Anyway, I predicted Lufkin - 33 and Longview - 17, may be a little closer but Lufkin still wins.
I think we are finding out that Dallas Carter is not what they used to be. They were trounced by Mesquite and only beat Dallas Kimball by 2. Kimball got smashed by Lufkin and Tyler Lee and also got shut out this week.
Longview is a good team, but I don't think they will win this one.

where is the game guys?
I will be watching it thursday. I hope the LOBOs look a little better than last year on TV. I 'd like to see a close one for a change on TV. Most have been too one sided so far.
Good luck to both and safe travels.
The game is in Lufkin with a 7PM kick off.
My hopes are: Lufkin 163 Longview 0
Realistic predictions: Lufkin 40 Longview 10

the game was in control after the first quarter just going off memory then it got really slow especially in the second half....score was 33-something I think....
he is right.....it was kind of ugly in the second half execution wise....

35-21 is more realistic IMO........I know the pack is very, very good but I will be dissappointed if it is a blowout......Longview will show up and play better than that....
who do you think we are IKE????? LOL

let me say this also. If your team shows up expecting an easy win they might lose the game....Longview has some talent on both sides of the ball and some guys that can make big time plays.......you will find that out on Thursday......
If we get some things to go our way, which I am not expecting, I think we can even win this game.......
Now bring on the criticism!!!!!

im pullin for longview this time. times in the past i pulled for lufkin to win cause i felt they would go onand represent us better. but, the streek has been goin on a long time and these doods need a win.i think lufkin will win but i have a feelin that longview will have a very competative first half. its just the second half im worried about. good luck to both teams though.

Boring 2nd half as I remember it.

Anyone expecting this to be a blowout is smokin' crack. The best I can recall, there has only been one blowout between these two teams in the last two decades. I've not seen anything that will make me believe that this year will be any different. I think LP has the better team, and should win the game. However, L'View is too good of a program to keep the streak alive forever. It is going to be a battle. There are SO many elements to this game other than the streak and rankings. East Texas legends have been born out of these matchups. The King of the pine trees will be crowned again on Thursday:o .
Whoever wants it the most, and plays the hardest to get it, will take this one home. Mistakes and penalties will cost either team the game, and be a HUGE disappointment to all of us watching.

c-lisle, there is not one Lufkin player that thinks this game will be a walk through and most of all Coach Outlaw understands what Longview brings to the table. What your reading here are people just like you, FAN TALK.
Outlaw said in last weeks meeting that Longview will be the toughest test to date for the Panthers. This was before Longview played Dallas Carter this weekend.
Lufkin will get to prove what they are made of this week.

I agree with PackAttack. Outlaw is WAY too familiar with The Lobos and the importance of this game to the community to let The Pack start looking ahead. If anything, he will have those kids properly convinced of the sense of urgency at which they need to approach their assignments and their need to win this game.
Don't buy in to what you read here, and assume that either team feels the same way. These kids have grown up knowing what this game means, and will want nothing more than to bring home the W.

I have waited to put my two cents in but here it is...
I have spoken to a lot of the players (and their parents that I work with) and I can tell you that LV is not putting a lot of stock into this game...that doesn't mean that it is not being treated like a rivalry, but they don't have ANYTHING to prove...this game has nothing riding on it unlike the last 9 (ie., district wins, playoffs)...the biggest worry they have is getting out of Lufkin without any major injuries...
if LV were to win this game by some miracle and lose the next five it will mean absolutely nothing...if LV can put a run together and meet them in the playoffs, then it will mean something...
Many as well as I expect LV to give Lufkin a good game and avoid the blowout...
if LV does win by the grace of God then wide can help me design a new shirt...:D :D

Put me in the smoking crack category. I think Lufkin dominates this game at Abe just like they did the last time these 2 played there in 03. I have all the respect in the world for the Lobos but Lufkin will be too much at home for this inexperienced team IMO.
Kingwolf give me a break. With all due respect, To say Longview is not putting a lot of stock into beating Lufkin is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. I mean the Lobos put a ton of stock into winning some meaningless scrimmage games vs Lufkin! These are 2 big rivals and it always should matter unless it is a meaningless scrimmage game where everybody plays and the win does not count. That is just a cop out IMO. The Lobos will be out for blood to end this long losing streak to a hated rival.

These are 2 big rivals
I'm glad to see that word back in Lufkin fan's mouths. I remember last year there was a thread asking if the Longview game was really a rivalry for Lufkin seeing as Lp has beaten us so many times in a row. I tried to look for it but the board doesn't seem to have posts back that far.
But whatever. I agree with you. I'll be honest. If this was the last game we won all season in my senior year I would be happy. For the plain simple fact that we beat Lufkin. I'd probably be mad that we could beat Lp and nobody else but still LOL. I've seen my team lose 3 times to Lufkin, once ending our season, in my 4 years at the HS and all I want for the rest of the time I'm here is to beat those freakin Panthers from Lufkin.
Ok that's all I want to say about the game cause I know if I get into it..I'm just setting myself up for disappointment.
Until then, GO LOBOS!

Hey I respect that opinion. Of course Longview is still a huge rival. This series is very even all time and most of these 9 games were close. Now Nac is the one that I do not consider a real rival anymore. That series is a waste of time IMO.

I completely respect the Lobos but I just feel Lufkin will be way too much for them at Abe. I predict a 42-17 win. I could be way off so what? I really believe it. I am usually fairly accurate when predicting Lufkin games and scores if you look back at the past. I have even nailed the exact score a few times. ok bro...let me square you away on a few things...first of all thanks for the respect, i expected to get blasted...this inexperienced team realizes just that fact...they are inexperienced!!!! as I said, this is a rivalry and will be treated as such...do they want to win, of course...will they go to Abe and roll over, not even close...my point is simple...this team is not basing their season on this game like many who have already given into the hype...not a cop out man...the fact is, if we go into this game with everything riding on it and we get blown out, this team will be in trouble...we all know that staying focused is a problem for longview the last couple of years and losing big to Lufkin will set us up for a horrible game going into district a good NM team...I am just glad to see that this team has a focus on getting into the playoffs and winning district...this game in the end is to get us ready for a lot of the wide open offenses that we are going to face...
don't get me wrong...I as well as every other green blooded Lobo out there would love nothing more than beat Lufkin, but for some reason, right now at least, it isn't the focus of the season as it has been in the past...and man, if you don't know, beating Lufkin had become an pure obsession for most fans...for whatever it is worth, it is the truth...
btw, for you and all future people who question those shirts...they were made by some idiot boosters...i don't know of any respectable fan on this board who owns one:cool:

You were very confident in Longview winning in 04 and said they would. I can't believe you are denying that? I have never predicted a blow out in this series besides the 03 game at Abe. I just know Lufkin wins at Abe in dominating fashion 99% of the time lately. They win almost just as much on the road but they blow out teams the vast majority of the time at home.

You are absolutely correct. It's a tough year as a Carter fan.

Man if DC just had some kind of passing game to keep teams honest. They have some good athletes but they only had 3 pass plays, boot leg pass, one guy running a curl route and the bomb. Longview figured that out at halftime, just like all the other teams did. Stay at home and stop the mis-direction and you beat Carter every time. Good Luck down the road.

Longview suprised me with the game against carter that was a really good game there, but coming off last weeks win will give them a big boost in momentum against lufkin. Do i think they will beat lufkin?? No chance at all. I think the streak will continue against them. the game will start good but i think that lufkin will win by more then 20 points. Lufkin's coaches arent going to show any kind of mercy or respect for longview that how it always is when two east texas teams play eachother. as far as lufkin and longview well there will be ALOT OF TRASH TALK BETWEEN THE TWO TEAMS. make no mistake of that longview and lufkin will let the mouths run. coaches try to stop it but the players like doing both. wouldnt be suprised to see a couple of flags thrown for disorderly conduct

Longview has proven we can get the long ball and yes we will get a couple vs Lufkin.....our QB has a really good arm but what we ahvent proven we can do is have a short pass game......is we can do that and complete 10-15 passes this game will be alot closer than many think......like I said we have talent on both sides of the balll and you will all see that come Thursday...
tyhe run game will bet there and if our Oline does there job protecting the QB and blocking all night then like I said this game will be alot closer than every one is thinking.....
our defense is solid and how they do against the Lufkin pass attack will determine how much Lufkin scores, Lufkin has a pewerful passing attack and I just dont know how we do against it......we have good DBs but they are small and Lufkin has a couple of big receivers.....

well the rivalry between these two teams will be a factor. longview has something to prove this year and have a chance to do it, but i do think that both sides will be talking noise. I havent seen a game yet were there hasnt be any noise talking going on between these two teams. I really dont expect this game to be any different.
dont expect any personal fouls from Longview.....coach king has vowed to correct that problem...trust me when I say there were opportunitesin the Oauchita game and we restarained ourselves.....coach king is serious about it.....

Just thought we would revisit the last nine games:
1999
Lufkin 17-7
2000
Lufkin 30-22
2001
Lufkin 21-7
2002
Lufkin* 23-12
Lufkin* 29-20
REGION FINALS: Lufkin 24-21
2003
Lufkin* Away 35-21
Lufkin* Home 14-0
2004
REGION SEMIFINALS: Lufkin 31-21 (SFA's Homer Bryce Stadium)
brings back alot of memories looking at those scores. soem very good games....the ones that stick out to me the most are the 2002 playoff game, both 2003 playoff games, adn teh 2004 replayoof game. I will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER EVER forget that 2004 game what a game and atmosphere. Longview decided to play Chris Ivory with a a fractured hand and he fumbles four times and Lufkin scores 2 times off the turnovers......what a dissappoint for Longview.
How can you look at those scores and then predict a blowout for Lufkin?
not gonna happen IMO.

YES. Longview will have to play almost error free football and get some help from Lufkin. I am not expecting help but Lufkin hasnt played lights out in all of their outings. We all know they struggled aganst ECA and they played sloppy in the first half of the Nac game.......

Yeah - gotta love Coach Outlaw - he pulls the starters midway through the THIRD quarter up 35-7. It was 35-21 AND ya'll almost recovered an on-sides kick with 4 minutes left.
I'm sure Coach said - "hey, we gotta play these guys again in three weeks"! Whacky round robin nonsense.

Lufkin - 38 and LV - 14.
Plenty of respect for LV, but LP coming off a bye week LP has had plenty of time to get prepared and get healthy. Offense is getting better each week (Claybon settling in and O-Line clicking)...too many weapons. LP "D" will be up to the challenge. LP will have to reduce the penalties.;)
Looking forward to playing LV, but really do miss the old East Texas district!!! It was exciting! But never want to see the 4-team round robin again, it was brutal for all.;)

people keep mentioning the bye week as a plus for Lufkin but it is probably more of a minus......they are a experienced team and dont need the bye week, except of ijuries and what not....may come out flat and if that happens look for the first ahlf to be tight.....and then it is up to which coach makes the adjustments

ok bro...let me square you away on a few things...first of all thanks for the respect, i expected to get blasted...this inexperienced team realizes just that fact...they are inexperienced!!!! as I said, this is a rivalry and will be treated as such...do they want to win, of course...will they go to Abe and roll over, not even close...my point is simple...this team is not basing their season on this game like many who have already given into the hype...not a cop out man...the fact is, if we go into this game with everything riding on it and we get blown out, this team will be in trouble...we all know that staying focused is a problem for longview the last couple of years and losing big to Lufkin will set us up for a horrible game going into district a good NM team...I am just glad to see that this team has a focus on getting into the playoffs and winning district...this game in the end is to get us ready for a lot of the wide open offenses that we are going to face...
don't get me wrong...I as well as every other green blooded Lobo out there would love nothing more than beat Lufkin, but for some reason, right now at least, it isn't the focus of the season as it has been in the past...and man, if you don't know, beating Lufkin had become an pure obsession for most fans...for whatever it is worth, it is the truth...

yesterday the whole varsity team had tutorials and started practice late.....there may be something to this king.......tells me Coach King has his priorities in order by making sure the players grades are up to par for the first few weeks of district where the title may be decided......

1st stop lufkins wr game they have six guys they can use longview will have to stop each one of them and get pressure on the qb

oh ok. well he look healthy to me in that game i saw it from the beginning. but, ill take your word for it. ill try and see yall again probobly in the playoffs. hope fully thaey have us all at texas stadium on the same day like they use to.

the running game is effective this year. its better then it was last year i think. If Turner gets a good block he's off to the races that kid is fast. He seems as though he is only a speed back because of his small size but he has showed people alot of times that he can buck if he wants too.
all true but outside of Claybon I'm not sure how good their run game is.......some Lufkin fans can tell me though......Claybon scares me the most on the scramble

Believe me when I say a healthy Claybon can throw and scramble well. He is very very good when on his game. He has 11 td's to 1 int with almost 1,000 yards so far this year. He has not needed to scramble much this year. Why scramble when you can throw like that. He will scramble if needed now that is he is healthy 100%. He is very fast and he is a smart qb.
Clisle, the W is what is important. Did you think they should have knocked SLC way down in the rankings when they only beat Grapevine by 3 points last year? Close games happen and the most important thing is getting the win. Sometimes you have to win ugly when you are not on your A game or the other team is playing very well. Just how it is.

Ok let's see Lufkin's 5 year record to date is 68-8...last home game loss was to Tyler Lee 4 years ago in a close one in overtime...last 2 years only loss was to SLC...this game is at old Abe and it's probably the toughest place to play...the fans are loud...the limited visitor seating plus Lufkin fans have a big section on visitors side...the band is loud the atmosphere is so home oriented...you know your in panther country (purple nation)that’s for sure!
Lobos on the other hand appear to be much better than a lot of people expected they would be this year...especially their defense...the D helped them beat Carter...and if I remember correctly it has been a major factor in all of their games...on the offensive side the passing is coming along pretty good so they are more balanced than they have been in the past. Lobos have played the last 3 games at home it's been over a month since they have been on the road...that could be a big factor here...
I think the way for LV to win is to put the ball in the air...but then you got Joe Jackson and others to deal with...it will be dangerous!!...if Moon can get some yards and LV can get some short passes going and mix it up they might have a chance offensively...I also think LV will have to get some turnovers as well...
So with all my 2 cents said I think Lufkin should win by at least 17...I hope it's much closer game but the odds are against it...BUT this is Lufkin vs LV so we will see.
My guess...
Lufkin 34
Lobos 14

The great thing is Lufkin doesn't need Jeremy to run or scramble to be successful on the ground. Lufkin has JaCorey Turner, TreVon Lewis and Ferris Evans. Add the occasional run from Claybon, that will be hard to shut down and we have not even mentioned the Panther passing game.
Lufkin - 33 Longview - 17
After seeing The Pack a couple of weeks ago, let me say this; TreVon Lewis is an absolute STUD. This kid can do it. He attacks the line like a dog going for a raw steak. Great speed, good moves, and runs hard. LP's running game will beat you if you even consider ignoring it and playing the pass only. The offense is probably more balanced than i have seen them in quite some time as far as "playmaker" type talent in both the running and passing game.
I like the thought of him wearing the Purple & Gold for another year.

he hasnt been scrambling as much this year because he really doesnt have to with six wr that lufkin uses why scramble when he can run pick db's apart? If he does start back scrambling now that his ankle is doing better and longview doesnt stop it the game is over
he is not that good of a scrambler to me. he is a good passer though. when i saw him play, i honestly thought that tyler lee's qb marcus jackson is better overall. claybourne is good still though and can pass but his scrambling is not dangerous to me.

well one of the major keys to this game is for Longview to slow down the Packs passing attack.......this is very difficult but we have a very good DC and we will see what he comes up with......I am sure Claybon will have some big gains but that is a good thing as long as he is scrambling he isnt throwing TDs......
like I've been saying the difference in this game being respectable or a blowout is Longview's defense.......

It took TreVon a couple of games to realize he couldn't just run around people and take off for 75 yards which he was accustomed to. He now runs north and south and has good instincts for a soph. He should be a factor by p.o. time.

Yall do not forget Turner. That guy is capable of taking it to the house at any given time. Some do not realize he does not fall like a little guy when getting hit either. I think Turner and Lewis is a great combo and that will give D's fits all year. Both have different styles and both can be very effective with their styles.

Turner looks fast but it isnt that hard to run on a defense that is playing the pass every down. Longview will be muich faster than the defenses you have played also. Looks to me that most of his big carrries have been when the defense is spread out...but I guess that is the strategy huh.

funny story about t-shirts.
A few years ago my nephew was playing for Diboll HS. I came in on leave fromt the Navy and watched their game against Newton.
Well all of the fans and players had red t-shirts with "marching into December" on the back.
Well they lost...........bad!!....and did not make the playoffs.
It was my nephew's final game and all the seniors were on the field with their pads off...
I hugged him and walked off the field with my arm around him. He (the true comedian of the family) blurts out "Yeah...Diboll HS...marching out in November!!"
All the other kids were crying and had their heads down...they all cracked up...this kid took it like a champ and enjoyed it for what it was......his last game.

He is the fastest on a very fast team so you know he can fly. Only Shankle (track star) was faster last year and it was by like .02 of a second. RT is very close behind Turner as the fastest.
Give me a break on the weak schedule. This is practically the same team that went 14-1 last year only losing to SLC. It does not matter who comes to Abe (top teams or not) you better bring it in a big way if you want to win there. That is a fact! Well you better bring it any time you play lufkin at any place. They are even tougher at Abe though. Not many keep it close for 4 quarters there.

I could care less what Smilin Kitty posts - but the FACT is he's started this idiotic fiction that Lufkin avoids playing any competition - that is nowhere near fact my man.
We can't help it if no one - including KATY - wants to play us. Not alot you can do about it short of something extreme - like hijacking a good team's bus and forcing them here.

ok in that ones place I'll put its about time somehting in this series went Longview's way
Unfortunately, this year’s team is not one of our better teams – we’re young and inexperienced. We're ok, we do have some talent but nowhere near the level of last years team - - and look what happened to us (South Garland, first round). Kind of like what happened to Lufkin’s super team that went 10-1. What I'm saying is that on any given night the unimaginable can happen. Do I think this year’s bunch can beat a Lufkin team dotted with experienced seniors, hardly, but anything is possible? Do I think this bunch can play with Lufkin, absolutely!! More importantly, you'd think by listening to some of the Lufkin fans on this board that we'd (LV) never made their hearts skip a beat. I respect LP, their program and especially their coaching staff . . . based on some of our close matches, you'd think we would garner the same respect. Either way, this will be a good game - - do not expect a blow out! We have some strong tradition as well. If fate be on our side, maybe we’ll take the experience from this one and use it to springboard us to a new level, then if we’re lucky, we can meet in the playoffs – who knows, maybe in Rose Stadium again – that one was a classic.

Yeah I heard a similar thing about the 40 race. That Turner is slightly faster then Thomas in the 40 (that is more football speed) and Thomas is slightly faster in the 100. But like we both said they are both very very fast and both very even with each other in terms of speed. Turner has a better start and Thomas has better push at the end. I hope to see both of them use that speed to their advantage tonight.

Ok - I know for sure the school receives no compensation from FSN. It was my understanding Fox wanted ticket prices raised and receive some funds from it - but Coach O said no - GA seats are $5 as always. I can't confirm the issue with Fox wanting them raised - that might be rumor only - but I do know for sure all GA seats were sold at the same price as always.

Thanks... you may want to see DragonFan's response on the SLC/Evangel ticket price thread.
This was my last post on that thread:
"Thanks Dragonfan.. one of the reasons I am asking is a South Carolina coach is explaining to people the reason the ticket price is being raised from 6 to 9 dollars (for the FSN Brynes/Gaffney game on 10/19) is because Fox has dictated the ticket price. There is also an implication that Fox retains a portion of the gate. I know ESPN has done that in the past (where ESPN had to pay for traveling expenses of an out of state opponent), but I did not think that was the way FOX operated."

When the clock strikes 0:00 at the end of the 4th tonight, we will all know the facts.

More importantly, you'd think by listening to some of the Lufkin fans on this board that we'd (LV) never made than hearts skip a beat.
I do not know what you have been reading but we all have said at one time or another that we have great respect for Longview and we all have said that most of the time Lufkin and Longview play close games. Just because in this situation, most of us Lufkin fans are picking the pack fairly big in this one has nothing to do with disrespect. It comes down to this. Although talented, this Longview team is very young and inexperienced while this Lufkin team has a ton of experience from a very very good team last year. And not to mention it is at Abe where Lufkin is very dominant. That is where those predictions are coming from. It has nothing to do with disrespect.

Welcome back JoeC! Last time I heard from you, you were a little pi**ed off about the SG game. I'm predicting a much better game than many are - you just never know.

Man, glad to see someone that remembers me . . . and you're absolutely correct - I went from cocky, to as you say, pi**ed, and finally, humble. Still, I am a firm believer that I’ll never get over that one. Now I believe in that old axiom and due to first hand experience, "on any given night" that sometimes this odd shaped ball bounces funny. Very often we forget that this is just a game (a game of inches) and more importantly, that these are still just kids. Good luck on your season, just not tonight.:)

"Ever since I got here, the rival has never been Nacogdoches," Outlaw said. "It's always been Longview. Out of all the old schools in the district, this is the one that all our fans want to see us play. This is a game that needs to be played. It sure isn't easy to get ready for a team like them, but it's definitely a game that needs to be played."
How can anyone say that we don't respect L'View and the E-Texas throwdown that is LP -vs- The Lobos?
5 hours and counting. If you live in the W. Plano area, and want to come to a watching party, the PM me and I will give you directions. I am expecting a house full, but will make room.

I am hoping for a good game. I am going to go ahead a look like the idiot (nothing new), and say that Lufkin wins on a last second play. Field goal or deep pass to keep it from going to overtime. Maybe not, but this is what I would like to see happen.

Ok, you just might be right, after all, I didn't count them or categorize them statistically - It may be that I get a little emotional when teams (or fans) start talking about blow outs. Clearly, this is not something that happens to LV very often. Good to know that some of you guys do have respect for our program. I don't believe I'd be misguided to say that SLC has the utmost respect for LP although they've had the best of you guys in recent history. Keep in mind; playing great competition only makes you a better team, whether it's a win or loss. This is my take, LP can beat us twenty times and I'd still rather play them than some scrub team . . . because there is always a chance that we could lose; on the other hand, no matter how small of a chance, we could very well win . . . now that's what I call respect. In other words, I'd rather that we played the best; therefore, you'll never find LV ducking a challenge. That's what I admire about teams like Lufkin, Evangel, West Monroe and of course, LV. Some teams seek a tough challenge. ;)

WRONG! We do not think that at all. I swear you are delusional at times or just make things up to stir things up. ;) An honest opinion is not disrespect IMO. What do you want me to do lie to you. Ok I think Lufkin will win on a last second field goal 24-21. Nah I still say 42-17 and I still do no
