Coach Daniel Aguilar at SA Holmes in San Antonio. None better. Even though Holmes may be down right now and recently, they sure haven't had any problems at quarterback.
Who are some other outstanding QB coaches in the state of Texas?

Aren't they head coaches, who coach multiple positions?
Coach Aguilar is specifically a QB coach, and spends his entire time coaching quarterbacks, nothing else.

At Leander, Coach Gideon is both the head coach and the qb coach. We havent had any problems with qb since hes been there. Here's what hes done.
2001-Paul Thompson (OU's starting qb)
2002-Al Pena (OK states backup qb, got alot of action last year and played well)
2003-Matt Parsons (IMO his best work ever. Turned a converted wide reciever that had NEVER played a down of qb in his life into a 2nd team all district qb. He was one of the JV wide recievers his junior year, and midway through that year he moved him to qb. He threw for over 1700 yards and had over 15 tds his senior year
2004-Drew Dunn as a junior
2005-Drew Dunn as a senior (threw for over 2400 yards and had 25 td's to 7 picks 'and he had 4 of those pics in one game'. Was the 15-5a district MVP last year)
2006-Josh McKinnley (we shall see)

Coach Dodge is the head coach that specifically coaches QB's. His other coaches are responsible for the other positions.

Coach Aguilar did a heck of a job last year.
He turned a small little 5'6 QB into the second leading passer in 27-5A (now 28-5A), all while running a flexbone offense.
And thanks for that info. about Coach Dodge. He runs a great program, as we all know. Has he had any D1 QBs from SLC yet? (not trying to gauge success, just interested)
And GO PAUL THOMPSON!!

Chase Daniel from SLC is the Qb at Missouri right now, and Chase Wasson is now playing QB at Texas State, so yeah, he's had a few.

Yes, Dodge is good, but if you are talking about QB coaches, I have to put our own Scott Green up there. Since he climbed up the ladder, we haven't had a bad QB that I can think of.

Coach Dodge also runs one of the best QB WR camps in the country. I have talked to a bunch of people that have had kids attend that camp from all over the state, and they all say that it was the best camp their kids went to.

The morning sessions (8:30-11:30 AM) will be devoted to student-athletes grades 7-8-9 and the afternoon sessions (1:30-4:30 AM) will be devoted to student-athletes grades 10-11-12.
Ouch, those afternoon sessions are early!

QB stats have alot to do with the players around them. If a QB has an offensive line resembling a mop, he won't be anybody's offensive player of the year.

The thread is about QB coaches...It would be hard to argue against Coach Dodge.....4 straight POY's, all 3 in college, 2 D-1's

didn't Dodge also coach Chandler who went ot Iowa and started 2+ years? To have 4 offensive players of the year (for Texas 5A) in a row at QB is a pretty solid endosement, I'd say. Wasson starts for Tx State, we all know about Chase at Mizzou, and Greg Mac was player of the week at Alabama 2 weeks ago for his work on the practice squad as a Redshirt.

Is "player of the year" a result of good coaching, or being gifted with some talent? I would say a mixture of 70/30. POY QB must have some great WR's, a good OL, and even a decent RB to keep the D honest and give them time to hit the great WR's. Carrol seems to have all of these. Not the best way to judge a good QB coach is it? I think he is great, but there are other factors to consider too. Are there any coaches out there that really take an average player each year and turn him into a great QB/Leader? Harrell at Ennis has done a good the past few years, but they have all been his boys. Not looking all that great this year so far.

what makes a good quarterback coach then? If it is coaching division 1 prospects Dodge has done that. If it is coaching great high school players Dodge has done that. If it is coaching kids that have success at the next level Dodge has done that. If it is coaching kids that have success at the high school level Dodge has done that. What criteria has Dodge not accomplished.

Not really sure, but maybe coaching a QB who was not surrounded by a great team, or coaching one that progressed due to coaching each year? Then ended up being a great college QB. Its a difficult subject, but the point of the post. There are a lot of QB's in the state, and I think a lot of good QB coaches. They just do not get the recognition that SLC does because they might not have the supporting cast that SCL does. Also, best QB coach in Texas would include all classes. A lot of people here are 5A fans and dont really know a lot about other 1A-4A. Some great QB's come out of these small schools too, like the current QB at UT.

Dodge is the best qb coach, hands down. There is really no argument against this. Coach Shula at Alabama, and Coach Pinkel at Mizzou both have said the same thing. "They have the best mechanics i've seen from any other freshmen qb's i've coached. It seems like they were very well coached on this in high school."
I wish i had the link, but this almost exact quote was said about Daniels and something very similar about McElroy.

as a pure qb coach, i don't have a clue. i am sure there are good ones across the state. including hc/qb coaches, it's a slam dunk. td has the best overall system of teaching not only the skills of playing qb, but also the mental/psychological aspects that separate the good from the great qbs. his training program is based on situations he found himself being involved in during high school and college. he resolved at that time to teach his qb's how to properly respond to even the most stressful and negative situations. his qbs don't have to make anything up on the fly the way he had to, and so they appear more poised and thus play better despite any untoward situations that occur. the proof is in the pudding, and expect it to continue, at least in the near future, with rd, and whoever follows him. i saw the follow-on qb play last night, and he will be very successful too. dangit, how do freshmen qbs throw the ball like that? ridiculous.

Jeff Green at Stratford is doing a good job with Andrew Luck and I would imagine he'll be a head coach in the Houston area sooner or later. That is, if he doesn't get the offer to coach quarterbacks at a college somewhere.
I've been very impressed with him. My son is a sub-varsity quarterback and while he is nowhere near in Luck's league talent-wise, he gets a lot of Coach Green's attention and he has, as a result, really developed in three years at Stratford. Green is meticulous about footwork and throwing mechanics, which is the sign of a good position coach.
He calls a pretty good game, also. But we all know that having talent at QB could make most any offensive coordinator look good.

Dragondaddy,
you are correct, that freshman QB for SLC looked great last night, as did his backup. I have to say, however, that the Rockwall Frosh QB had quite and arm also, and good mobility. Should be a good one.
