I think Falls is a lil low.. i would put them at 3 and Fair 4, drop pearland to 6, humble at 5.. katy stays at 2 win or lose vs consol... but everything else looks good.... stilll plenty of season to go for shifting... humble could be moving up if they keep winning..langham is a lil high as well.

Good list except for a couple of changes I see. You have Langham a little high - they played some mediocre or unproven teams (Morton Ranch comes to mind) and won all of them but I don't see where they have actually been tested. The homer in me comes out and says that Falls should be above them based on the preseason schedule they played and how much they have improved since that first game. Stratford should be a little higher as should Cy Creek. I might put Humble before Pearland and Cinco above Lamar but other than that it looks good.

Of course Cy Falls has two very respectable losses, but losses nonetheless.
I rate Falls a bit lower than you knowing that if they go on a run and start beating everybody as impressively as they are supposed to, they will rise up. And of course they will have a shot at Cy Fair in Week 7 so we'll see who king of the hill is by then if not sooner.

If Pearland loses to LaMarque on Friday this all takes care of itself. If Pearland can take care of business at home against LaMarque, then I think they will have finally proven something to this board. We'll see.
Cy Falls has a pretty strong district to deal with and will probably stumble somewhere along the way, finish 7-3 and either win or finish second in 17-5A. I think they'll have to run the table in district to be my #3 in the region and that might be a tall order given the balance in the district.
It will be fun to watch it all unfold.

If Pearland can beat Lamarque with good fashion i would say you move them in front of Cy Fair because of weak opponents and they are too one- dimensional. And Cy Falls should be a number 5 or 6

True, true - it is a tough district and seems even tougher this year with the talent pool in CFISD. I predicted a 7-3 finish as well and I actually thought 2 of those 3 would be in district. Now that I have seen them open up more, I think they could go 8-2. I know that's a bold prediction for that district but I feel very confident. Of course, not one district game has been played so we'll just have to see. Everyone is resting this weekend except Springs and then grades come out so it will be interesting. I feel sure those coaches are all over them about grades. A few years back, you could tell when report cards came out - it seemed half the team was gone! It hasn't been that way recently though thank goodness. Of course, a few years ago, we were 3-7 it seemed every year!

Cy Fair's opponents haven't been as weak as Langham's but they still haven't been Westfield or Bryan caliber. Still, they are 3-0 and did go to the Region III, Div I final last year and almost beat Westfield. I think they belong up there. I'm not sure what I'm missing here though - Pearland is playing a 4A team and they are expected to lose? How good is LM?? Could they beat Brenham? I hope not - I like the Cubs!
At any rate, if Pearland wins, they will be 4-0 - Cy Fair will still be 3-0 so it makes sense somewhat to move them up.

Lamarque is ranked as high as 5 on some polls... there 2 wins coming aganst Galveston ball 27-21 and another weaker 5a opponent. In my mind Pearland is the clear favorite finall having both Foswhitt Whittaker and Proctor back in the starting rotation

LaMarque has for many years been one of those 4A teams that nobody in 5A wants to mess with. They are a perennial Region III finalist in 4A going back a decade or more.
LaMarque beat a good Nederland team and is 2-0 against 5A teams (Ball, LaPorte) already. Playing Pearland is a step up in competition for LaMarque, but I would say at least half on this board believe Pearland is the one who won't be able to make the step.
My butt is out on a limb for the Oilers in this one. But I think they will win and gain the measure of respect they have been looking for.

17-5A is obviously the deepest district in Region III. Cy Fair and Cy Falls are proven commodities, and Langham Creek and Cy Creek are looking very promising. The kudos are deserved.
Region III is maligned as being weak. But the Houston area taken as a whole, which includes The Woodlands, Westfield and Klein Forest, and arguably also Lufkin, A&M Consolidated and Bryan -- all from Region II but clearly not "Dallas area" teams -- stacks up well against the depth of the Dallas area programs. (But until one of them beats SLC and/or Trinity in December, we have to let our Dallas brothers do their peacocking).

I agree. If I am correct, 175A (formerly 165A) was also in region II until 2 years ago at the previous realignment. Why is it region III gets such a small part of the state? I know, numbers. Houston area has more talent spread over more teams. Thus the "weak" region moniker? All the major universities come to Houston (and surrounding areas) to recruit the talent because there is such a concentration of it. It is just spread out over several teams. ANd your point of Bryan/College Station is valid. They are 1 hour away from Houston and about 3 hours from Dallas. In fact, they were in our district until the realignment 2 years ago. And those two games were always tough!

Might move Lamar up. They were a Top 15 pick, at the start of the season, and they've just done the unthinkable (on a 4A level) and beaten the #1 4A team in the state, "Brenham".

Its not really that we are big on IKE. its just that they have played extremely well against 2 very solid opponents..
Against Humble 14-7
against north shore 24-0
This is no easy feat...Its hard to keep humble to 14 points, regardless of our problems, with the type of talent and scheme we run... its designed to put the big numbers up thier..
As for North shore... To be able to hold them to 24 pts and a scoreless first quarters is an accomplishment (held Humble scoreless for 2 quarters)...They did better then The woods did (as far as defense)
I think they have a tough defense....and are better then most teams in thier district... Here is how i would rank the playoff teams in 19-5a district as of now
1.Ike
2.Nimitz
3.memorial
4.Stratford
any of these teams can get the title...but i have to give it to ike as of now...if they survive the rest of the non-district (Lufkin) then they will be a beast in District play.

Tough for me to follow this logic about "game of the year for the district". I have been following it for too many years to say this game is big or that game is big at this point in the season. From what I have seen in this district, every game every week is big. To me, it is just another 175A game.......gotta win it. I think some are getting too bothered by all the hype Falls recieved during the off-season so they are placing too much emphasis on one game (their game against Falls) and may miss some other important games on their schedule. That's how the "bullseye" gets placed on one's back.

Pretty good list. Pea-Land is in a no win situation. If they beat LaMarque, everyone will say it was a 4A team (even though LM could run with most 5A teams) if they lose, eveyone will say "look, they can't even beat a 4A team!"
I do think LaMarque wins it but will will have their hands full with Fozzy. He's a great running back.

As for LC - they are too high in my opinion. Yes, we'll see because a lot can happen but you have to play more competitive teams than Morton Ranch to get a feel. In a couple of years, MC may be very good but this is their first year in varsity.

I think they are putting bullseyes on their own backs. The Eagles have somewhat removed that bullseye. The Cy Fair fans (and Cy Creek to a point)are putting way too much emphasis on one game - I'm sure Raffield has the Eagles thinking about Cy Creek right now and Cy Creek only since that's the next game...then on to the next team. The Cy Fair game is a month away and the Bobcat fans are already bloodthirsty for it. I think it will be a good game but game of the year is a stretch - there are too many good teams in this district and there will be some very good games along the way.

Thanks for the kind comments, tooplaya. I saw the Westfield game the same as you apparently. Alot has been made of the yardage given up by the Falls defense in that game, but that will happen when a defense sticks everyone up in the box to stop the run. Get past that 1st line of defense and then you are going to go a long way. About 1/2 of Westfield's yardage came on 3 plays. None of which scored thanks to the speed and effort of Bruns. And after the long runs, Westfield only scored on 2 of those possesions which were all inside the 10 yard line I believe. Spoke volumes about Falls' defense to me. Offense did well with what they were given. I think a few more passes on the 2nd and 2's for Falls would have helped. Although, you could tell Westfield was playing against the pass that night, respecting Fall's passing game.

I know, I know...I sound like a homer. But hear me out.
La Porte will be back in the thick of things before too long. They lost a game that they played very sloppy in (against Clear Lake) and another that they played without their starting QB (against La Marque). And still they only lost by a combined 14 points.
Tonight against Baytown Sterling they should be able to re-gain their confidence before they face their district schedule.
Remember...this team beat a tough Humble team last year in the playoffs and gave Cy-Falls all they could handle before losing a very close game.
They have very good players in the skill positions. All they have to do is shore up the defense.

Cmon now...dont make personal Shots about what he does know or doesnt... He is a really informed guy in actuallity... Yes the list in MY opinion is off..I wouldnt of ranked Nimitz on the top, but i understand his reasoning for putting them up thier...they have handled thier last 2 opponents very well..BUT they havent faced a worthy defense, Clear brook in my opinion just didnt live up to expectations that game (INJURIES) and Pam has one of the worst Defense squads in the area... (Nimitz)They run to much, which will prove to be thier down fall When having to face schools (like the Cypress schools, which they are often put with in the playoffs) that throw a whole lot and stop the run quickly...They are gonna find out that they are gonna have to throw...And i just see Interceptions all over the place with Micheal thomas...Nice strong arm but couldnt hit the wide side of a barnyard...Thats why i wouldnt put them up thier... Looking strong..but not top 10 in area material... In my opinion
As for pearland.. i wouldnt put them down so low... Yeah they havent met expectations but they have a strong passing game, and running game...Defense is was kinda shaky in the madison game (this is probably the reason for the low ranking) but its to early to count them out of the top 10...

The guy does know what he is talking about. The problem is that he speaks with his head and not his heart. P-land has not performed against a couple of weaker teams in the region. Thus, do they deserve more consideration? Also, the La porte/Falls game was no where near as close as the score indicated last year. Falls had that one all the way.

Did I leave enough gap in there?
You have beat 3(5a) teams with a combined record of 1 and 7. That is why I put you at 14. But wait, you beat a 4a team at home. I'll just bump you up to #1.

The guy does know what he is talking about. The problem is that he speaks with his head and not his heart. P-land has not performed against a couple of weaker teams in the region. Thus, do they deserve more consideration? Also, the La porte/Falls game was no where near as close as the score indicated last year. Falls had that one all the way.
how can you only win by 3 in a region semifinal...and "had that one all the way" and the score not be indicative? did you all jump out to a 33-0 lead and put in the back ups and laporte got 30 points in garbage time? i wasnt there... was just wondering...
pearland1.... you guys still havent beaten anyone... maybe we havent either...but we have won convincingly and took care of business the way we should have.. we showed the separation of competition and we showed that the teams we have played so far were not even close to beating us... not so in your case... where all the games were relatively close ....

first you say if we beat lamarque we will get respect and now its just a 4a team well i quarantee that that 4a team had more talent on that field than half the teams ranked in your top 20. o and can somebody please tell me why we are the third team out of 245a ranked in a district were suppose to walk through.

laporte for example.... they lost to La marque by 7... without thier starting QB boogie....you guys beat lamarque by 10.... cmon... laporte has thier qb..they probably beat lamarque in a close game just like you guys did....so you are telling me that laporte should be ranked? no way...they arent that good... and la marque could beat half the teams in the top 20 in 5a? i would be willing to bet they couldnt beat any of the teams in the 5atexasfootball.com top 25....
nice win last night though.....u were in a no win situation.. if you win...u beat a 4a... if you lose you lost to a 4a... you could have helped urselves in the rankings by blowing them away... which i have no doubt NS would have....

Katy impressed everyone last night and no doubt there is a huge gap between North Shore and Katy on the one hand and the rest of Region III on the other hand. Pearland wins a big game against a tough team and in so doing earns some much-needed street credit. Tonights game between FB Marshall and Klein has slipped under the radar here but it will finally give us a decent read on whether 23-5A can produce a competitive playoff entry.
I'll be updating my Region III Top Twenty tomorrow morning.
