#23 Beaumont West Brook Bruins

5atexasfootball.com

The Breakdown:

Vitals:

The West Brook Bruins program is back to its winning ways under head coach Craig Stump.  Stump took over at West Brook three years ago, and has guided the Bruins to back to back appearances in the Region 3 Semi-Finals.  Under the leadership of his staff, West Brook has shown real life for the first time in the post-Chip Ambres era (1997).  In order to continue building on that success, the Bruins must overcome the graduation losses of players such as QB Joe Chaisson and LB Jacody Coleman.

A big part of West Brook’s success last season can be attributed to running backs Albert Williams (5’11 185) and Christian Michael (5’11 200).  Both of those players return in 2007, and are a key reason why West Brook earns a place in the pre-season top 25.  Williams is a senior and Michael a junior.  They are very explosive runners who can score from anywhere on the field.  Against Baytown Lee last season, Williams carried 14 times for 293 yards and 3 touchdowns.  Michael averaged over 8 yards per carry as a sophomore. Senior OL-DL Ryan Pollard (6’3 280), senior DE Blake Chavis (6’5 230), senior DB Mike Williams (6’0 170) and senior DB-QB David Falgout (6’0 185) are experienced veterans on what will be a very talented team overall.

West Brook’s biggest regular season challenges, on paper, will be Westfield in non-district and Baytown Lee in district.  The Bruins travel to Westfield, but host Baytown Lee.  The Bruins beat Lee on the road last season, and that will definitely be a key match-up in 21-5A again in 2007.   The Bruins are back in playoff form, and they have a strong enough blend of talent and experience to continue their progress in 2007.  West Brook is a definite dark-horse to keep an eye on in the Region 3 field.  They project in Division 2 for the playoffs.
