|
Vitals: |

Madison failed to make
it out of the 26-5A gauntlet in 2006 after losing their last
four games of the season. The Mavericks finished 5-5, but the
biggest loss of the five was a 42-34 result against eventual
state semi-finalist Macarthur. The Mavs return several key
players, and could be one of the most improved teams in the
state as far as win-loss record.
Madison’s thoroughbred is senior tailback
Devin Thomas (5’11 185). Thomas terrorized 26-5A defenses
last season, and was one of the state’s leading rushers
despite playing just 8 games. Athletic senior QB Brian
Ehrlich (6’1 182) adds leadership and balance. If the Mavs
improve defensively, they will have a chance to contend in
Region 4. Senior LB Jason McLean provides the experience on
that side of the ball. Madison returns most of its defense
from last season intact. Also, the Mavs feature one of the
state's most productive kick returners in Josh Miles.
The gorilla on Madison’s back is the fact
they haven't
progressed beyond the state quarter-final round since 1984, and this
group will attempt to break that stigma and lead the Madison
program to new heights. Playing 26-5A is never easy, but
Madison returns the experience necessary to contend for the
top spot there and then aim for Region 4. |
