#20 Rockwall Yellowjackets

The Breakdown:

Vitals:

Rockwall had its best season since 1991 last year by posting an 8-3 overall record.  In fact, it was the first winning season for the program since the 2000 season when they went 7-3.  The Jackets ended a 15 year playoff drought.  So, 2006 was obviously a significant year for the Rockwall program.  The Jackets return eight all-district players and 27 lettermen this season, and definitely look good for a return trip to the post-season.

The biggest graduation loss is explosive tailback Marcus Mathis, but the Jackets return several quality players at other positions.  Senior QB Braden Smith was a top player in DFW last season, and returns to lead the offense.  Smith was a first team all-district pick as a junior.  One of his favorite targets returns out wide in the form of senior WR-DB Michael Patterson.   Senior Robert Carter (5'10 180) will be one who Rockwall looks to this year in the ground game.  Carter backed up Mathis last season.  Also, two key OL are back (Chance Willard- 6'1 270 and Josh Jagielo- 6'3 290).  Aaron (6'2 195, OLB, Jr.) and Trevor (6'0 160, DB, Sr.) Arterburn anchor the defense.

The Jackets enjoyed a breakthrough season of sorts in 2006, and appear to return the necessary experience to build on that in 2007.  If they can find a running back, the offense should be strong again.  The schedule is front loaded with Allen, Carroll and Garland as three of the first four on the schedule.  This is a team that can defend its district crown, and aim for its first playoff win since 91.
