#18 Cedar Park Timberwolves

The Breakdown:

Vitals:

If you were asked to name the top teams in Central Texas, Cedar Park probably wouldn't come to mind.  However, over the last three years, the Timberwolves have more playoff victories than Leander and just one less than perennial power Austin Westlake.  Last fall, the Timberwolves were a missed field goal away from having a chance to play in the regional semifinals.

Cedar Park's success in 2006 was even more impressive than the record indicates.  The Timberwolves battled numerous injuries to key positions throughout the year.  Jr. QB Michael Cochran was having a fantastic year, but was lost for the season in Week 5.  That same week, record-setting RB Tyler Smith was lost until late in the year.  Backup QB Travis Watson went down in Week 7 forcing WR Jamie Knight to move to QB.  Unbelievably, Knight was lost to injury against Klein Oak, forcing Watson to attempt to lead the team to a second round win with a broken clavicle without his top receiver...and he nearly did.

Although Cedar Park will dearly miss RB Tyler Smith and LB Justin Allen, two of the state's finest players, there is plenty of young talent waiting in the wings.  Michael Cochran will be back at the helm at QB, giving the T-Wolves offense a dangerous dual-threat.  Also returning is RB/KR Dedrick McKnight who proved to be a big-play threat.  With Cochran returning, Jamie Knight can return to his natural position at WR, giving the offense a proven downfield target.

As good as the offense looks to be, the Cedar Park defense should be even better.  The Timberwolves return 4 All-District players on D, which should help carry on the Cedar Park tradtion of stout defense.

Cedar Park has accomplished quite a bit in its short 7 year history as a varsity football program, but with the foundation that's been laid and with the talent in the program, Cedar Park football's best days lie ahead.
