#16 Klein Forest Golden Eagles

5atexasfootball.com

The Breakdown:

Vitals:

Klein Forest is a program blessed with some of the best natural talent in the Greater Houston area and, similar to neighbors Westfield, they have scary potential if they manage to put things together and start making longer runs into the post-season.  From a talent point of view, this program has everything it needs to be successful.

This Golden Eagle class features multi-year starters who will greatly help Forest's cause to make another run at district, and then try again in the playoffs.  Senior QB Ford Lakin leads Forest again this season in his fourth year as the starting QB.  Lakin provides valuable leadership.  All-purpose standout Jared Jerkins can play a number of roles from WR, RB and the return game.  Senior TE Louis Hooper is a match-up nightmare.  Forest should have one of the best defenses in the Houston area, and possibly Texas, given the experience they return from what was a very good unit last year.  Senior DL Kendrick Payne and senior DB Marquis Wright lead this group of returning talent.

Forest should definitely contend for the top of district like last season.  The Golden Eagles took district champs Westfield down to the wire last year, and must travel to Westfield this time around.  Their only other loss in district last year came against Klein, immediately following the controversial Westfield game, so Forest will look to exact a little revenge there as well.  This is a Forest team that has definite potential to emerge as a darkhorse in Region 2.
