The Reagan Rattlers
were one of the big surprises of the 2006 post-season.
Riding amazing performances from junior running back Marcus
Wright, the Rattlers advanced to the Region 4 championship
game before falling to state finalists Westlake. The
Rattlers won their first three playoff games ever in the
process, and established a new standard for the Reagan
program. One of Reagan's main challenges will be working
to achieve and exceed that standard as they continue to build
their program. Reagan began varsity play in 2000.
Senior tailback Marcus Wright is one of the best players in
the San Antonio area, and one of the best tailbacks the state
has to offer. Wright played well in the regular season,
but absolutely went off in the playoffs by rushing for over
1,700 yards in his team's final five games of the season.
Junior QB Derrick Walls also returns. Walls took over
the starting role as a sophomore last season, and attempts to
add balance so defenses can't completely sell out on Wright.
In all, Reagan returns 32 lettermen from last year's state
quarterfinalist squad.
It
will be interesting to see how Reagan handles the role as one
of the favorites out of 26-5A after spending most of their
first seasons on the outside looking in at the district's
best. Reagan faces a huge challenge, but it is one they
can confront very effectively if they build on the confidence
they gained from their playoff run last year. |
