This will be the Warriors’ 30th season and they’re 1-8 all time in the playoffs. The 2000′s marked their first decade with a winning record. In 2006, Westwood had their best season to date posting a 9-3 record and notching the first playoff win in the programs’ history. Should they make the playoffs this season, it will be their third trip in as many years which would also be a program first.

SCHEDULE
|
9/2 vs Austin Bowie This will be the first test against a 5A opponent and it’s a game that Westwood can prove things are going to be different this year. Bowie won by 18 last season. 9/22 @ RR Stony Point Most of the match-ups between these two have been quite competitive. This is the most important game on the schedule when thinking in terms of a district championship. 10/28 @ Leander 2004 was the last time the Warriors beat Leander. This will likely be the district decider for Westwood and a win on the road could give the team a real boost heading into the playoffs. |

THE BOTTOM LINE
Offense: There’s no doubt who the star of this unit is, senior QB Ben Johnson. The 2010 16-5A offensive MVP ran for 1,200 yards and 17 tds, while adding another 2,000 yards passing and 17 tds as a junior. Expect an even bigger 2011 from him due in large part to four of his five offensive linemen returning. That continuity will certainly allow the Warriors to significantly improve this season. Two transfers of note, RB Ledeans Anderson is a speedster that transferred in from Georgia and WR Dez Wyatt is also a guy they’re excited about. He came in from Kansas with his dad, Daryl Wyatt, who was named the University of Texas wide receivers coach this off-season.
Defense: The defense may not have any big names, but they quietly put in a good outing each week. This unit finished as our 30th best defense in adjusted defensive scoring in 2010 and look to be in great shape for 2011 with nine of those starters returning. The Warriors will line up in the 4-3 look with six of the front seven returning. Not included in the returning starters is junior Tyler Logan who’s a talented backer that played quite a bit as a sophomore. All-State FS James Ingram (3 ints, 4 blocked kicks) leads an experienced secondary.
Overrated if: Lack of playoff success and experience catches up to them. They went 0-3 against 15-5A last year and that will be their first opponent in the playoffs.
Underrated if: This team lives up to it’s full potential. QB Ben Johnson is the headliner, but he’s surrounded enough talent to hang with anyone.
