SCHEDULE

8/27 @ Katy

This is a must-see battle.  The physicality, intensity, and atmosphere is hard to beat at the high school level.  Both sides have the utmost respect for each other, but get down to business when the whistle blows.

9/9 @ Klein Oak

The Mustangs won last season’s contest at GPISD 34-15.  Oak is one of the more talented teams in the Houston area, so this is a contest to watch.

10/21 vs La Porte

La Porte could end up as the fourth best team in Region 3 this season. Both teams are similar in makeup, but which team will make enough plays on offense?

2011 Schedule:
8/26 @ Katy
9/2 vs Aldine Eisenhower
9/9 @ Klein Oak
vs Humble Kingwood
*9/23 @ Pasadena Memorial
*10/1 Open
vs PA Memorial
*10/14 @ Beaumont West Brook
*10/21 vs La Porte
10/29 @ Baytown Sterling
vs Channelview

THE BOTTOM LINE

Offense: Despite reloading at a majority of the offensive positions, expect the overall offense to be improved.  How does that happen? Well, North Shore doesn’t see much drop off in the talent department from year to year, and that talent will begin it’s second year under former Stony Point OC Tom Lewinski.  Under Lewinski (2007-2009), the Stony Point offense thrived and the same is eventually expected at North Shore.

Defense: It’s a real treat to watch these guys play defense, especially how well they defend the run.  I would challenge anyone to find another defense that yielded only 2.79 yards per carry ALL SEASON (13 games) and that’s after facing one of the top rushing attacks in the state twice (Katy).  They are fast, aggressive, and arrive angry.  Overall, the Mustangs return six starters and several others that saw time last season.  The big loss from last year’s unit will be the graduation of LB Derrick Matthews (Houston), but the North Shore faithful and coaches feel great about incoming sophomore LB Zach Whitley (6’3 220 4.6).

Overrated if: They can’t maintain their level throughout the playoffs.  Those in the area know the Mustangs often play at a level good enough to compete for championships.

Underrated if: As always with North Shore, this team has a very high ceiling.  If the offense can come into its’ own, the Mustangs could do some serious damage.
