SCHEDULE
|
9/9 vs Allen An early season classic candidate. Allen got the better of the Lobos by four points in ’10. This season, Allen has to travel to the fortress that is Lobo Stadium. 10/14 @ Mesquite Horn A four point win by Longview last season, both very talented squads should be playing for an early lead in the district race. 11/4 vs DeSoto This one could very well decide the district as it did a season ago when the Lobos won by three. Like Allen, DeSoto has to travel to Lobo Stadium this season. |

THE BOTTOM LINE
Offense: They don’t put up huge numbers on offense, buy they’ve always been good enough to win. The Lobos do their work out of the Pro I formation and have the luxury of handing the ball of to senior J’Haston Faggins again in 2011. Faggins put up 1236 yards on 219 carries and 13 tds as a junior. The skill positions are deep with young talent, 6’4 sophomore wide receiver Dorian Leonard is a name to remember. In order for this unit to live up to their potential, they’ll need to shore up the offensive line and protect the football.
Defense: Defensively, four starters plus several others with experience are back. Three of their stars from 2010 are back in NT Cornelius Williams (12 TFL), junior LB Demarkus Lathan (125 tackles, 10 TFL, 3 sacks, 1 int), and LB Jordan Burton (110 tackles, 2 TFL, 1 int, 2 pbu). This unit is but extremely fast and tough. These guys make coming to Lobo Stadium a nightmare for visiting opponents. They’ll be among the top defenses in 5A again.
Overrated if: It’s pretty hard to find a reason why a program that has been to three straight state semifinals would be overrated in the top 10. Inexperience at quarterback always brings up a few question marks.
Underrated if: The talented sophomore class makes an instant impact.
