Judson is one of the most storied programs in Texas High School football history.  The Rockets have qualified for the playoffs in 26 of their last 29 seasons.  During this time, they’ve reeled off six state championships  (1983, 1988, 1992, 1993, 1995, 2002), 11 state championship appearances, and 16 regional championships.  Many associate the Rockets’ success with the 1990′s, however, during the 2000′s they appeared in three state championships and won a title in 2002.

SCHEDULE

8/26 vs SA MacArthur

Judson will have a significant experience edge at home against MacArthur as they’ll look to turn around a 17 point loss last season.

10/7 vs SA Wagner

The Rockets hold a 4-1 advantage in the series between the two cross-town rivals.  Judson has won by double digits in three of their four wins.

10/21 vs Cibolo Steele

Steele are the defending state champs and Judson will want to remind them who’s boss around these parts.  Steele won by one point in last year’s meeting.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Offense: The Rockets have fielded many strong rushing teams in the past and this year’s attack should join the list. All-State RB Quaylon Jones is back after rushing for 1600 yards and 17 tds in 2010.  His backfield partner, Kenyon Clack, also returns after adding 600 yards and 4 tds in 2010.  The key to the running game not missing a beat is having four starters returning up front, including the tight end.  A new quarterback takes over, but the play action game should be there with both Parks and Dotchie back on the perimeter.  Overall, with eight returning starters back, the offense is in a position to significantly improve.

Defense: Five starters return, including all-state LB Stephon Moody.  This may not go down as a dominant defense, but there’s plenty of talent back to improve on last year’s -3 adjusted defensive scoring mark.  This unit will be of the smaller, but fast and disciplined variety.  The spine of the defense is the strongest with returning starting experience at nose guard, inside linebacker, and two safeties.  Experience in the middle and speed on the edges are the ingredients to a good defense.

Overrated if: The chemistry isn’t right with this group. All of the pieces are in place to make a deep run in Region 4.

Underrated if: With a healthy ground game, the Rockets are a good defense away from representing Region 4 in the D1 state semifinals. We’ll be watching to see how the young Rocket defense progresses.

This is a class many of us have been watching since the 7th grade. We expect big things of this group. Matt has all the tools to be a Division 1 QB prospect now that he has his chance. The running game is a given with this group and the passing game has the potential to be just as good. Lots of speed at the reciever position and a QB who can get them the ball.
