This program woke up in 2006 when they won a state championship under excellent leadership of coach Joey McGuire. Prior to that season, Cedar Hill had never won a playoff game. Since 2006, the Longhorns have been at least two rounds deep each year.

8/27 @ Allen The Longhorns will find out right off the bat how they stack up against the top. Last year, they lost by six points to Allen. 9/5 @ Denton Guyer This will be their second game in a row against top 10 competition. This one is in the Herbstreit Classic on national TV. The Longhorns beat Guyer at the same point last season, but lost to then in the playoffs. 11/4 @ Duncanville This game will likely decide the 5-5A race between Duncanville, CHILL, and SGP. The Longhorns have won their last five in this series. |

THE BOTTOM LINE
Offense: Offensively, Cedar Hill must replace graduating QB Driphus Jackson who started for the last three seasons. They’ll look towards senior Andre Anderson or junior Damion Hobbs. Anderson was 1st team all-district as a wide receiver last year. Both will have the luxury of handing it off to Gonzalez or dropping it off to him out of the backfield where he’s very dangerous. The wide receivers are young, but very talented.
Defense: The Longhorns return seven starters and several others that saw significant time as juniors. Everyone in the front six has starting experience are led by four all-district players. The secondary returns three starters and is always a talented group. Coach McGuire feels good about the senior leadership on defense. This should be an improved unit from last year.
Overrated if: Inexperience up front makes it difficult for new quarterbacks to settle in.
Underrated if: The senior leadership and talent on defense translates into significant improvement.
